    Thanks for doing this video. As time consuming as the process is, you explained it in a very simple straight forward way. It's taken me 2 days but I have been able to transfer my Lightroom catalogue from my old computer to my new computer!

    In this video I demonstrate how to move your Lightroom catalog and images from one computer to another. I demo using Mac computers but this will work the exact same way with Windows Machines.

    hi Anthony! great video, I already know how to do it but i watched it just in case i missed something :D I think you forgot to explain how to backup all the catalog settings such us file name templates, slideshows preset, etc etc... also, with the new version of Lr the profiles and stored in a different folder and the develop presets too... i took me one day figure out where the hell Lr save those files because if you have a new computer, is also nice to move all the adjustments, plugins profiles and presets you have... for me this is very important, but i think this should be a different video maybe for a more advanced user. Thanks for all your videos, i love them! big hug!

    Absolutely the best explanation I have seen on the process. Thanks so much. The only question is......If you want the location of the originating pictures to be in a new location on your desktop how would you change lightroom to see the new location?

    • @lc.ozdogan
      @lc.ozdogan Рік тому

      The same way he did. Once you moved the original photos to a new location on the same computer, they will be "question marked" again. and then you need to right click on the parent folder and click on "Find Missing Folder". Same procedure.

    Hi Tony, remember that if both computers are in the same network you can copy all the files directly, tou don't need the external HDD.
    Someone reply complaining about presets and others stuff. I export them to a folder, then I import on the new one

    The #1 reason why I keep all my images on an external drive, no need to move/copy images (waste time) from one internal to the new/other computers internal drive .. I do have several backups of the external. My question when I installed LR to new computer it automatically created a LR catalog in C drive pictures. When I move the original catalog from other computer to the new computer do I install it in pictures, and remove the one that was automatically created when I installed LR on new computer. Thanks for the refresher Anthony, much appreciated !!

    Great video. How does the process change if your Lightroom catalog exceeds 4 GB. Adobe says something about using a program like StuffIt to open the folder, which sounds like double clicking to first get into Lightroom will not work. I have a new macbook pro coming, but my catalog has hundreds of thousands of images over a number of external drives. I am unsure if this simple method will work.

    The process sounds fairly easy, but my Lightroom Image Library is stored on a large external hard drive and backed up to a second hard drive. If I purchase a new computer, do I have to copy the image files from my external hard drive onto the new computer? Is it OK to leave the images on the external hard drive and just plug the drive into a USB port?

Thank you...

  • @mindlessgreen

    Yea, But where are your presets, styles, profiles etc? Why can't there be one export button that generates a zip file with everything except photos. Then just import that into the new lightroom and reconnect photos and done.

    Anthony, I love your channel, can you do a vid on painterly settings in LR for portraits, you know that “ Belle Époque “ look as well as that low key luminous, low saturation / color grading look. Thanks , keep up the great work. By the way your channel is the first I go to on all things photographic.
