Thank you for the time you took to do your video. I have Arlos and got the Blink yesterday. I'm still trying to get used to and test out the Blink during the return period. Right now I'm still liking my Arlos but I'm trying to give the Blink a fair chance. I like the setting options available for the Arlo as well as the notification settings for the Arlo. Blink does not seem to have as many options for settings and camaras in use. I'm using these to watch my property as opposed to enjoying the wildlife. I have about 27 more days to make up my mind. Thanks so much.
The batteries that you have to load into the blink cameras are annoying. Having Arlos that can be recharged easily are a huge advantage. Recently, my entire Arlo system went down and the base disconnected from every single camera. There are lots if instances where Arlo goes on the fritz and the reinstallation of every single camera is a pain. There are drawbacks to each system. Thanks for sharing and for watching.
Nice Review Fred, Appreciate your time to review the cameras and share to everyone else out there in beekeeping that want to shoot video and those into Cameras/Photography. Great Job Fred, take Care!
Does that mean the camera could be hacked and someone else could be looking at my birds in their nest boxes? (';')( ';')... Seriously though, I don't use them for actual security.
@@FrederickDunn lol, no but if you take a look at the permissions that the app asks for on your phone... But now you really have me thinking about putting cameras in our Bluebird and Wren boxes! Thanks F.
I don't know if you've already reviewed these UA-cam videos, but I was more interested in the way they modified the nest box to accommodate the camera with an extension out and above the nest: Live Nest Box Camera 2022 - Loughborough, UK - Blue Tit, Lesley the Bird Nerd - Chickadee.
Photograph, or video? A good quality cell phone can video, or take very close up stills and you can then pull that up and zoom in while you're at your hive. My preferred Phone for that is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. I selected it for the camera capabilities specifically and have found none better for that purpose. You can pull the photos or video up on your computer screen and take a second look after your inspections are over, and you may be surprised what you see after the fact. :)
One thing that might be relevant to some about the blink cameras is that the cameras need to be in range of the sync module, not just wifi. I thought about using a blink camera to watch my hives but they are a good 400-500 feet away from my house. I have wifi coverage that reaches out there but I have no where to put the sync module where it is also in range of where I want to put the cameras, so blink does not work for me. It's a fairly niche complaint, but I wish the cameras could communicate with the sync module over a pre-existing wifi network rather than having to connect to the sync module directly via it's own ad-hoc wifi.
I'm gonna sound dumb , but what or how does it get the images to your phone? I'm guessing wifi and maybe though the app?? Any subscription cost like some game cam?
The subscription is required if you want sequences stored for later use. There is a link that I showed at the beginning of the video. It's a tiny wifi unit just for the Blink Cameras and you need to use the app on your phone. If you want cloud storage, it's $3.00/camera per Month, or for unlimited cameras, it's $10.00/month or you can get an annual subscription for $100? Always check for specials. The Arlo units are set up so you can use a base station, and not use the cloud, you can save all data to a thumb drive that plugs into your hub. OR, the Pro 4 can be used without the Hub and just use your wifi. Lots of options, always read their current offerings on their websites.
@@FrederickDunn thank you Fred. I like the little blink camera. But kinda don't won't anther subscription. But 10 bucks is not bad. Something to think about.
Mr Dunn did you make a similar test with an endoscope? I am thinking that those cameras need a « sin » card thus an added cost…? As you can tell I know very little about electronics? Thank you for this video.
great info fred on the blink. do you have to pay a monthly fee to use it? and can you hook it up through the control module to your computer and bypass the phone all together
There is a fee IF you want the data to go to the cloud for storage. It's currently $3.00/camera per month, or $10 per account if you want lots of cameras. It has to go through their hub/ Blink Sync Module and then your wifi. I only have it on my phone so I can check them no matter where I am. I don't have the app on my computer.
I currently have Z Modo cameras on my hives video quality is ok but wifi reception and longevity is terrible. Live span of a camera is around 1 year some less some more. The best cameras I had were some no name ip cameras from amazon for $25. and they worked with all sorts of software and were cheap. still have some that have been running for 4 years. Haven't been able to find anything like them anymore. All that is available is cloud cams that do not give you any options with out paying by the cam.
@@FrederickDunn Thank you... also the ones I just purchased are outside the expiration date (didn't note at time of purchase) do you think they are okay to still use?
At 11:30 Side By Side Quality Comparison Begins, the Blink Cam is the "clear" winner at close range.
lost me lol but i did spend about 11 mins trying to figure out the charts

Very helpful, Thanks for the effort, my money would have been on the higher $$ cam but that is obviously not true for close in.👍
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much, I'm glad you found some of the information helpful :)
I use the Wyze outdoor rechargeable cameras. They work great and are cheaper!
Hi Nicole, what's the closest focus distance on those? Thanks.
@Frederick Dunn I'm honestly not sure. I haven't tested it. I mostly use them to check on the hives and motion detection.
Really appreciate your test and results. I don't know about the Arlo but the Blink has major privacy issues that I would steer clear of.
Does that mean the camera could be hacked and someone else could be looking at my birds in their nest boxes? (';')( ';')... Seriously though, I don't use them for actual security.
Would this fix the security issues you are aware of? ua-cam.com/video/RYvHHno5Ilc/v-deo.html

I have blinks love them.
Thanks for the comparison break down. Something to look into. (I use an older reolink PoE model for my camera use)
You're very welcome, this is going to be an interesting year I think. :)

Birds Walking Down did a great job with this. I'll have to check in with Lesley the Bird Nerd :)
Nice video! That was the same conclusion that I came too. Although you were more scientific about it!
Glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for the excellent birdhouse design! I'm looking forward to seeing the birds this year.
I have blink cameras in two of my bluebird houses. It is interesting to see what goes on.
That's great, there is a lot of satisfaction in being able to see in without disturbing the box.
Hello Professor Dunn, so what would be the best way to photograph comb to see the eggs ?

Question for you: Have you ever used the Spirulina pollen/protein patties? Pros/Cons? Would you advise for or against using them? Your thoughts?
Hi Nancy, I've used them and I'll share about them during today's Q&A
