Hey Pete! Here in Holland we have a thing. A man owning a barber shop (kapsalon in dutch) always went to an oriental place and he always ordered fries with kebab on top, garlic sauce and cheese on top of that. The guy always ordered that and so the man of the oriental place named that a kapsalon after him. And now it is known all over Holland and mostly gets ordered by drunk students. You should google it and try eating that.. it is also very heavy food as you might imagine

In 90s mom was bringing Baklava straight from Turkey. I didn't like that bakery product. But recently, I visited a bakery in Anapa (it is close to Sochi, where you have been, Pete), where there was no ready-made baklava and employees asked me to wait a little. In the end, I bought the freshest baklava and it was magically delicious! By the way, in Russia it is not called baklava, but pahlava. Also, there's nothing more delicious than Russian halva, especially Kuban one. Because in the Krasnodar region, we do it from the local kernels of sunflower seeds instead of Chinese manufacturing waste!

According to the Internet baklava is originally Greek but is also in Turkey and Arabic countries. I saw a bit of debate on this in the comments. There is different kinds of baklava in different countries.
Because of the fact that America is more common with Greece they assume baklava is from Greece when it is really from Turkey.
