Hey guys thanks a bunch for all of the support and kind comments I’ve received over these weeks, i never expected for people to actually sub to this channel, but i’m very grateful that this happened, thank you guys so much for 100 subs!
This video ended up a little longer than i expected and school is coming in a few days so my attention has been split and i made a mistake in the Arcane Trickster spellcasting. Arcane tricksters usually only get Illusion and Enchantment spells when they level up, except for levels 8, 14, and 20 just like the Eldritch Knight.
Whoops my bad.
Is it possible for an Arcane Trickster to be a Rakdos Cultist?
@@marcusblacknell-andrews1783
A character's mechanical class does not have to restrict the lore/setting that the player wants for them. So if you want a Rogue to be part of the Rakdos guild, then go ahead, just do some background details to try and tie them together!
Although rogue is my favorite class and I genuinely love playing it, if you want to play an expert "heist:"-like character such as what I'd normally want to do as an arcane trickster, I honestly recommend going the first-level in rogue, multiclassing into wizard, going 18 levels into illusionist wizard, and taking the 2nd level of rogue at around 20th level for your character. The spellcasting and versatility of wizard will allow you to keep up with the rest of your party far better than arcane trickster rogue, which just feels like it falls off from the 5th level and beyond. To make things sad, the 17th-level capstone ability "spellthief" doesn't really serve much of a purpose because you don't even get 4th-level spells until you are a 19th-level arcane trickster, and most enemies that have spellcasting (rather than enemies which just have magical abilities it has 0 effects on) will be casting devastating spells of a much higher level than what you can steal or cast reliably. I love arcane trickster's flavor, and mage hand legerdemain has so many adorable uses, but honestly, it's just better to only get the 2 levels in rogue and have the rest in Illusionist Wizard.
Love arcane tricksters. Sure they are mostly limited to illusion and enchantment magic got there leveled spells but u can do a lot of fun things like silent image or minor illusion
DoctorTnT Lol I agree Arcane tricksters are really cool to build and a lot of fun to play. Also I kinda forgot to mention the spell limitations for the Arcane Tricksters in this video but i hope the rest was still enjoyable! Thanks for the comment.
Greyscales I would say if u want put a pinned comment telling about the spell limitations since it’s a big part of arcane tricksters and only get spells outside of school limits at specific levels
DoctorTnT Lol yea i will thank you for reminding me!
So Arcane Tricksters are basically the "Harlequins" of Dungeons and Dragons?
I kove these videos. And I love that you point out how the abilities really work, and any short comings they might have. Good work!
Thank you for the supportive comment Xangan!

Good video, my dude! Especially nice to have spell thief explained thoroughly but concisely.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Damn good and concise video. I’m just starting to play dnd and these videos make it a lot less daunting. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make these. Hope you’re doing well.
Really great videos looking forward to seeing more!
This is such a good video. It really helped me put my arcane trickster together. Love the cute animations
I'm really glad that it was helpful!
Its a really nice vídeo, its better and more straight foward than alot of D&D Channels
Thank you for the compliments!
Loving these videos, I actually never leave comments on youtube, but this is great content. Loving the music and that you keep it simple with drawings as well. Really appreciate it! Subbed
Thank you so much for the kind words Juan, I'm really glad that people enjoy what I do in my free time!
Thanks man! much better than all the other arcane trickster guides.
I'm glad it helped!
The good thing about arcane tricksters is that a lot of the spells they use like invisibility, booming blade, find familiar, and numerous other spells don't require intelligence investment. I also don't often worry about maxing out my intelligence that much because their 9th level ability means that if your hidden you can give enemies disadvantage on saving throws against your spells most of which will be intelligence saves which a large majority of the monster manual do not do very well against meaning having a 16 intelligence is perfectly fine even at later levels when it comes to saving throws.
This is perfect! I am playing playing an Eldritch Knight and my friend is playing an Arcane Trickster in our current campaign, so this will help a lot.
I'm glad my videos are helpful! Thanks for the comment.
Really concise and informative. Good job.
Thanks, Tony!
Another banger, thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching!
Here's the homebrew for arcane trickster that I use. If anyone wants a gander.
Conclusion.
Spellcasting.
They can choose any wizard spell according to level instead of just enchantment and illusion.
3rd level, you summon an invisible mage hand that can be controlled with a bonus action, this hand has more uses too.
If you did not choose Mage hand as a cantrip then this feature is replaced with.
3rd level, Damaging cantrips can now proc sneak attack, this does not add to the amount of sneak attacks possible in a turn remaining at one.
Starting at 9th level, if you are hidden from a creature when you cast a spell on it, the creature has disadvantage on any saving throw it makes against the spell this turn.
Starting at 13th level, you can summon a mage hand next the enemy to distract them, giving you avantage against this target for one round. this feature costs a bonus action to spawn a Mage hand, however the hand only lasts one turn.
Starting at 17th level, you can negate and steal the spell of an enemy spellcaster as a reaction. The dc is now a sleight of hand check against their spell save Dc, you negate the spells effect upon you and the party and you get one free cast of it. This can be used once every long rest.
I'm really liking these videos
I'm glad that you like them
I've always wanted to combine a court jester and a royal sorcerer. Thanks for showing me how.
Thanks for the video!
I'm glad you enjoyed it Zia!
@@Greyscales I’m obsessed with my arcane trickster character and your video was super helpful!
Brilliant videos, one of the best at explaining D&D. Are you going to do a video on all subclasses or just one subclass per each class? Would be cool if you did shorter subclass videos for classes you have already done, if you’re only planning to do one subclass per class.
Thank you for the kind words, Christian!
I think there are a lot of subclasses that kinda overlap and utilize more of the base Main Class abilities rather than its own subclass abilities, I was originally planning to just do the 1 subclass per Class that I find personally interesting, but if I ever have the free time to do more than 1 then I might do shorter videos for other subclasses of the same class.
Thank you for the comment and questions!
The ritual caster feat is astounding good for all rogues due to giving you access to find familiar, and considering your a rogue with magical assistance getting the gold required to cast the spell should be nothing.
Spell theif is actually worded so you can still stop a higher level spell, you just don't get access to it yourself. I don't know if you still prevent it from being cast again for 8 hours.
That's a good catch, thanks for bringing it up!
Here comes the boom or more accuratelly 'where did the boom come from?'
I think Arcane Tricksters can be very useful in a Ravnica setting in House Dimir as well as College of Whispers Bard
I have the "Guild Master's Guide to Ravnica".Thanks for the tip
I actually went a different route with my arcane trickster. I made charisma my top score so that I can use deception and persuasion to keep me as far away from tricky situations as possible. Then intelligence second for spell-casting, and dexterity third. Everyone goes bonkers when I tell them my rouge’s dexterity is his third ability score. The reason I did this is when you add spell-casting to the mix, invisibility and disguise self make stealth easier (and my background is charlatan so I have proficiency with the disguise kit), and damaging spells mean those finesse weapons are suddenly not doing as much. This means you can have more fun with your character and have something crazy like charisma or wisdom be your top ability score, the downside being that your spells are mostly going to be limited to stealth and damage, so you’re likely gonna kiss that charm person you were so excited to use goodbye.
Just play a full caster at that point, I feel like
Good video
Thank you!
I am not allowed to play Arcane tricksters anymore 😢. Apparently when you bonus action take unheld primary weapons, archers quivers and magic focus DM'S get frustrated
I miss these videos :(
Hey, I'm sorry Owen, it's just that school has been killing me for a while now, but I'll definitely try and come back when I find the time.
Frankly, I would love arcane trickster if I could take more than the usual illusion and enchantment stuff, but hey, a fog cloud here and there has been a gift as a halfling, enemy tiles are no problem.
Yea, I think the Arcane Trickster would be pretty crazy if it lacked restrictions, but Rogues in general are already pretty strong so that with any sort of Spells is really cool!
Thanks for the comment!
I have a rogue, intelligence was her dump stat... but I'm still thinking of having her become an arcane trickster... no idea how that'll play out.
You'll still be a good Rogue just not so good with magic stuff that requires your Spellcasting ability, but good news is that your Mage Hand will still be effective.
I hope it goes well Izzy!
Like the channel. If you had a clearer mic I'd binge the whole catalogue, but it sounds a bit scratchy to me. Subbed anyway.
Yea I'm sorry about my audio recording, it's just that I don't actually have a mic, it's just my phone that I'm using to capture my voice.
And also my computer room is kinda small.
But thank you for subbing!
@@Greyscales hopefully mic is your first upgrade. Your content is good and with better production I'd watch these as they come out. Rooting for you.
@@Dingleblast Thank you for the feedback, i’ll see what I can do!
@@Greyscales you can purchase an inexpensive lavaliere mic, which will plug into your phone, for around $20.
@@TheTerrainWizard Oh thank you for the advice!
*checks the play speed to be sure I didn't set it to be 1.5x faster*
Everything checks out-
Yea sorry I speak pretty quickly when reading off a script, I'll try to be slower.
@@Greyscales You're fine XD I still understood what you were explaining. I was just surprised by your speed
Great video though! I'm playing an Arcane Trickster in my campaign, level 7.
Debaitng on multiclassing into BladeSinger Wizard and Eldritch Knight
@@trevhart2124 I'm glad you liked the video and good luck on the build!
Yeah I could not understand at all what you were saying unfortunately.
Good content, but I found the music very distracting and you were speaking so quickly I had to listen to it at 0.75 speed.
Liz, I'm glad that you enjoy my stuff and sorry for the audio imbalance, I tried using music that is copyright free and somewhat unique sounding but I understand that the one I have is not ideal.
And sorry for the fast-talking, that's kinda how I speak when reading from my script.
Thank you for the comment!
Y'know me personally unpopular opinion but I think arcane trickster is the probably the strongest class next to paladin
I personally still think Bards are really strong but honestly there's a lot of strong combos out there that fit different player types.
@@Greyscales depends on the campaign but a bard with charisma I would agree is pretty strong which in my opinion classes scale on campaign and arcane trickster is one of the most versatile
great video!!! love the illustrations, but could you talk slower please
I'll try my best to be clearer in the future, I'm glad you liked the video and thank you for the feedback!
Uhhhh I don’t like him makes me uncomfortable when I sleep I can tell even my patron fear’s him
Bruh I’ve stolen smites from my own Paladin (willingly) and have memed on people
Jesus Christ, slow down!
Hey, thanks for doing this! It's a really helpful video. (One piece of constructive criticism, if I may: slooowwww down and enunciate!! At times, it's really challenging to comprehend and absorb all the great info you're giving!)
Hello Brian, thanks for the feedback, I'll try my best to do better at articulating my words in the future!
Jesus Christ slow down. Good video, but why are you talking so fast as if you don't want to be doing it, and want to get through it as quickly as possible?
I try my best to keep the videos as short as possible but the main reason why I speak quickly is because that is how I naturally sound when I read from a script, I've been trying harder to speak more organically in my recent videos but talking fast has always been the normal for me.
If you talk so fast that you start sluring your words, mayde dont start a youtube channel until you learned how to speak properly.
I started this channel because I enjoy making videos. There are no other requirements.
