Yes all comments are spot on especially the one about the wardens not enforcement of the rules. One point if you are using a Ferry your sailing time can make your arrival time out of this rules .it can be difficult to park up until opening time

When we had a motorhome, we were questioned at booking in, “which side is your habitation door?” We were told that the habitation door on the right side of van then drive in nose first, hab door on the left, then reverse in.

I’m with you , car, van, awning & the bit of grass is what you’re paying for. On the other side of the coin a couple of years ago in the club side in York I parked my car in an empty pitch while I set up the van & awning so that I didn’t block the road & the warden came by & told me to move it . I moved it & blocked the road.
If someone used my service pitch water they would be getting an ear full , if they did it again they would be eating hospital food.

Lots of valid point made there Graham. I always thought that the grass at the side of your awning is yours unless indicated. I have heard of at site charging more if your awning is bigger than hard standing. We try to get pitches away from trees, bins, elsan drop. People who walk over our pitch are shot! Interesting vlog with lots of discussion points, cheers Martin

I agree with everything you said, EXCEP”T arrival time. We like to get away regularly at weekends but both have full time jobs. This means if we want to arrive on a Friday so we can have at least one full day, we need to arrive reasonably early so we can do some work on the friday. If we left after finishing work on the friday we would likely not make the last check in time. It makes it tricky for us who want to go away regularly for shorter periods.

Agree 100% Graham, as for the grass at the side of your awning we put our chairs, table and the dog loves to sunbathe on the grass, you mentioned you were thinking of getting a dog, I think that’s your answer or get a electric fence put up around your pitch 🤣😂 👍👍👍👍

We were on a site and one day, the electricity went off in the van. After checking all our van electrics, I found that another caravanner had disconnected my lead at the post and plugged theirs in. Needless to say, they lost their electricity PDQ.

Another great video Graham. Being as we've only been to a few sites since getting back to caravaning, we can already see where you're coming from. We went to one site where the guy stuck his caravan on the bit of grass so his awning and car were on gravel. If we had an awning up it would have only been a couple of feet from the side of his caravan. I must add, it wasn't a club site. If sites are going to have rules then they should be adhered to.

Yep, I’m with you in that if there are rules they should be enforced. If they are not going to be then just don’t have the rules. But a lot is just down to common courtesy. We try and choose pitch to avoid people having to walk on ours if possible.

When I had my Hobby I always pitched nose in. As you mention the door is on the opposite side on continental vans but the other reason is that our lounge area was at the rear and I didn't fancy a hedge for a view. A dawdle with the motor mover.

Top video Graham nothing worse than horrible neighbours and rude campers , we’re new to the camping world , Motorhome owners for one year but have just brought a 2021 Bailey Pegasus grande rimini for our future holidays, I have to say I have never been told to help yourself to any pitch we’ve always been allocated a pitch but I would get quite angry if I saw people saving a pitch or encroaching on my pitch and to avoid confrontation I would like to think the wardens would sort out these problems 🤔anyway love the videos I need all the hints and tips I can get so we’re ready for 2021👍

The wife and I totally agree with what you are saying about pitch etiquette, the clubs and wardens need to be more consistent, on saying that we recently stayed at Highlands End in Dorset and the wardens were very good at applying the rules, I heard our neighbour on a smaller pitch asking them to ask us to move our car to provide them with more space (motorhome facing the wrong way), there reply was, " he has parked correctly on his pitch, maybe you should do the same" the warden did not move until they parked correctly.
We don't think you are moaning 😂you are just saying what we are all feeling.👍🏻

You make some valid points. I thought the main point of pitching the correct way was to ensure the 6m gap. Not a problem if you aren't using an awning but putting an awning up the wrong side would mean eating into this 6m space.

I’m currently sat in my van on the Caravan and Motorhome club site at Sutton on Sea and we are pitched with the caravan facing inward. I asked the warden if it was ok and he said it was fine. The awning is where the car would be. We did this because there’s a view across fields and who wants to sit in their caravan looking across at someone else sitting in their caravan. Much better to have a view across fields. We also did this last year at Coed y Llwyn club site. Can’t really see an issue myself

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed🤔 some valid points though, I am on a CMC site now and on arrival told to find a pitch with white marker and given some paperwork,, not much talking through a mask. You read the paperwork when settled/set up not whilst towing and unhitching, just so happen to know car, caravan and awning positions, though they do vary on the same site! I bet you went up north recently to buy a windbreak? and CL & CS sites from now on, your dry humour is like mine so well done.

Totally agree with everyone of the points/issues you raise here. Particularly Trewethett Farm - I complained about the system this year to the club and eventually got an answer back that they’re not going to do anything about it ‘cause they find it’s the best system for the site. Lovely location, but I won’t be going back there. I also think the 1st timers have been the perpetrators of the a lot of the ignorance you highlight. Hopefully there will be improved recognition of the etiquette next year.

oh my word!!🤣🤣 You can definitely tell your in the Caravan Club. We had our 1st experience in June at the Brecon Beacon site. We got held up in traffic and was due to arrive 2 minutes after 8pm. we phoned the office to say we were almost there, he said he was locking the gate at 8pm. Sure enough he locked the gate. Thankfully I think he saw we had kids and said he would open up to let us in. He said his reason for been awkward was due to the members whinging about letting people on after hours. We could feel the curtains twitching as we drove on at 9.98mph. As we parked up people were still staring. The next morning when I wanted to use the bathroom they had some weird rubber band thing where you hang up a band when you go to the loo and when you finish you take it off and stick it in a tub of what i think is anti bac water. Any way I went in and there was a load of members chatting away, I went to find a cubicle and one of the guys shouted at me saying" hey there's a queue here". I was like "Hey I just thought you were having a mothers meeting". Whats the point of the rubber band thing if your just going to queue inside?? Anyway when you started talking I Guessed you were a Caravan club member. Just enjoy your holiday everyone! Some of those Caravans are 20000 grand plus, that's alot of money to spend on holidays just to moan the whole time. It would be good to think about the people coming on who don't like YOUR twitchiness at the curtains which for us put a dampener on the the atmosphere of a site in a beautiful parts of Wales. It definitely made me feel like parking the wrong way round on the pitch 😜

I’m new to caravanning and got a couple of thoughts. My caravan is European so door is on the “wrong” side. I don’t want to use an awning but want my door to open up to my car, because I’ve built an outdoor kitchen/table to come out of the boot of my car that I’d like to use. I will try and find a pitch that’s at the end of a row so I’m not facing anyone, but if one isn’t available, I’ll have to just face the other person. I’ve thought about going nose in, it apparently I’m not allowed to park my car where my awning would go. Also, I’ve never done it, but I’ve often thought about booking Friday night but turning up on Saturday morning. It means I wouldn’t have to rush and finish work on Friday but could set off early Saturday morning, arrive in the morning, set up and then have the whole day to go out and explore the area.

my biggest bug bearer is someone walking over my pitch, I don’t consider the grass as anyone’s pitch so that’s where I expect people to walk past, as we don’t own a awning (I think they are the biggest faffs going and would rather spend time in the caravan) that does mean we seam to get some that happily walk over the hard standing which makes a load of noise past my bedroom window first thing in the morning which then wakes us up, it drives me crazy, it’s just pure laziness and inconsiderate. I don’t want to be the one with serval wind breaks but can understand why some put them up all around their pitch

Agree with most of your comments Graham, at the end of the day, if you have rules peeps should stick to them and the wardens should enforce them if needed. I think the only one I am more laid back with is if somebody wants to move mid break then fine.
Have had discussions with my two kids as I will not let them play ball games near the vans but they see others are lumping footballs about! Even though the other kids try to keep the ball under control in inevitably ends up hitting another caravan or motorhome.
Motorhome's should really park as if it was a caravan when on CMHC sites. Growing trend that annoys is that of TV's and or movie screens in awnings, generally playing loud into the night.
End of the day, peeps know what the rules are when they book the sites, if they cannot/do not want to stick to them then the should go else ware or not moan when the warden's enforce them.
    Cheers - Darren

  • @dafarmer21

Agree with most of your comments. However I much prefer caravan then awning then car as this is all your pitch up to the next caravan. Because if you have car caravan awning as club sites specify your sitting outside your awning on your pitch looking at your neighbours car and so when they go out they are invading your privacy then. For this reason that’s why I don’t use may club sites always prefer conventional sites that don’t adopt this rule and in 29 years if caravanning only find club sites that do this.

haven't been on many C&MH sites so don't really know the process 🤔 I always try and ask for a pitch when booking a site online as most sites I have booked have a map of the site on there web site.

Worst I had was some annoying lazy chap throwing a ball for his (hunting type) dog onto the grass between my pitch and neighbour, he was in row behind, it was a bit of grass 3 or 4x the normal width but still! All whilst he sat down in his deck chair reading his book! Dog of course was over excited, nearly knocked my bbq over, had a good sniff of the dinner, ran back through our awning (I had doors open at both ends) and scared the s*** out of my youngest who is very uncomfortable around lots of animals. I had a word, seemed to fall on deaf ears but at least it stopped but I was so angry for the rest of the holiday! 2nd worst was at Trewethett... we were on a prime front row spot between a load of vans/continental motorhomes so hab doors all on the uk driver side so nobody facing. Mohos went home, uk caravan arrived pitched facing us awning to awning obviously as they wanted to take in the view then spent the next 2 days heading off for their dog walks over the grass and corner of our pitch, crunching the gravel first thing in the morning right outside our bedroom window and tutting at us for facing the wrong way!!! Everywhere else has been fine and reasonably sensible thankfully :)

Thanks for watching Becky. It's scientifically proven that 99.9% of caravan holidays are great. It's just that .1% that annoys us, but not enough to stop doing it. Haha. I now need to be careful people are starting to think I'm a moany old git..Graham

No quibble from me your spot on. "Serviced Pitches " These pitches cost more than standard ones. So what gives someone the right to use your tap whilst connected to it 🤔 It would surprise me if they start to bring a double hose connector and share your tap even though they're on a standard pitch, watch out for that one 😂

My wife is asking "Is it possible you and I are related "!!!!!!! One to add, especially in France when it is hot - your neighbour has their noisy air-con running daytime (to make their unit cool for the evening ) and they are sitting outside oblivious to the nuisance factor , grrrrrr p.s. if you want many, many more rants just let me know.

Tbh this is one of my worries as we start caravaning this year. We live in a rural setting, we don’t have neighbours attached to us. We work hard and want a quiet holiday with our two labs. I really don’t want to have a caravan or motor home to be on holiday with us. Maybe it will end up that this is not for us. If you want a Blackpool beach holiday with everyone on top of each other that’s fine but it’s not for me.

Here’s an interesting vlog. Every single thing you’ve stated your views on are shared by many. Walking on my pitch is a bug bear, but someone who’d unplug the hose, I wouldn’t have. Am afraid I’d be having a word. And as for the wardens, blame the club as they’re so not bothered that’s why there’s no rules..... Rant Over and I don’t do FaceBook lol

    Hi Graham.
Just to say you are not Victor Meldrew, you say what a lot of us are thinking.
As far as the spacing on club sites that is done for a reason (fire prevention). A lot of motorhomers think this rule does not apply to them, not saying all of them but most.
If you want lots of space find a nice cl site there are lots of them about.
Keep it up mucker, breath of fresh air listening to you.

  • @gnarlyboot477
    @gnarlyboot477 4 роки тому +2

Absolutely agree, another gripe from us is dogs. People love their dogs and are happy to pick up their poop. However I don’t want dog poo and pee anywhere near me or my rig. Often experienced people with dogs on a lead watch their pooch pee on my hitch like its perfectly acceptable. 🤬

    • @stuartrichadon5271
      @stuartrichadon5271 4 роки тому +1

Some Dog owners also think it is acceptable to let their dogs foul empty pitches, On a visit to Devon we were allocated a pitch that had dog crap that the Warden had to clean up before we could set up.

    • @bbud2611
      @bbud2611 4 роки тому +1

There are some very inconsiderate dog owners who never pick up poo and spoil the site for everyone else. I have two dogs and would never leave a mess or let them pee on someone’s pitch. Even at home we walk them road side so they can’t pee on people’s plants. If one peed on my hitch I would be out my caravan like a shot and they would get a mouthful 😤.

    Hi Graham,
I totally agree with your comments, and I especially agree with Caravanning with The Hooper’s I just hate it when
people just cut through our pitch again in the morning, and wake us up walking on the hard standing stones.
Totally unacceptable. It drives us crazy and it’s pure laziness and so inconsiderate.
Thanks very much for sharing pal. 👍👍😁😁

It’s all about respect. Or, more importantly, lack of respect. People may complain ‘too many rules, but we are on holiday’ - but it does matter as a group breaking rules for their own benefit can spoil the holiday for another. Wardens should enforce the basic rule of position. Slight mod to the caravan club picture would be to show the door and insist the direction of the door. We have an Eriba, a German caravan, and always go nose in so our door is on the correct side.

Hi another great video. As a first-time caravaner and I went away to kesseland . Suffolk. I found the wardens were very helpful explaining the rules to me even that some person behind me .(A Motorhomer) tried to jump the queue and tried to reserve his pitch before I made my choice the wardens told him in no certain terms to get back and wait his turn . I Found the warden very helpful in explaining the rules of the site and site
etiquette which was very helpful. As for the grass verges in between the caravans they are for firebreaks in case the caravan or motored home l catches fire

  • @ttxela

Our door is on the rear of our motorhome and the awning fixes on the back. I've had wardens insist I back in and have me door opening to the RH side which is impossible of course. I've given up and stay on CL's where common sense applies more than rules. As its physically impossible for us.

We took down an awning the night before leaving a few weeks ago and then had people almost tripping over the steps on the hard standing...Can’t help but feel it’s worse this year with more people coming into the pastime as newbies. However lack of basic manners seem to be the point

Well said, I've been on CLs where it's like a free for all 3 mtrs what 3 mtrs. CAMC sites are ok except when you've just started. The last thing you need is a prat that barks rules. It would be better if people would be pleasant like i would like to think i am and explain. Not everyone can or are able to read the rules and by laws.

I’m on holiday and have no cares about people walking across the pitch. If they do they’re likely to get caught in a conversation with me. Next time bring some beers and your chair!
Be tolerant and be tolerated by others you make more friends that way. As far as French/Spanish sites, I find their pitches are no bigger than ours. CL/CS pitches are generally not marked out so tend to be a free for all. So what. Life’s too short to get angry. Roll with it. 👍🏻😊

I'm a motorhomer and if I stay on a club site I adhere to their pitch rules, wardens do generally ask what side the hab door is to guide you. BUT...I personally hate having to be next to a caravaner's car when they are constantly going in and out of it for stuff they keep in there rather than the caravan. Constant banging of car doors, often late at night or early in the morning! It's all about consideration really from everyone.
