I feel like a lot of Christians and Catholics misunderstand this song, cause it’s not really about Jesus, rather 1990s televangelism and false prophets

Genesis is one of my favorite bands from my childhood. Ghost is my favorite band from my adult years. What a cover they did
Yeah. A modern favorite of mine doing a classic favorite of mine. And they played it pretty straight too. I really enjoy their version, but still prefer the original.
honestly one of the best covers iv heard in a long time, just give it a little sprinkle of ghost but kept the original well in tact, the video is brilliant as well

What makes this one a banger is how catchy the chorus is. Sounds like something you hear from a hymn, which is meant to be contradicted by the other verses of the televangelist character.
Really fun and humorous writing from Genesis tbh.
Gabriel's influence on the band remained really strong since his departure at the time.
Jesus himself calls the people Phil is singing about(TV Evangelists),false prophets. I call myself a believer in God, and I don't find this song offensive at all. One of my favorite tracks on this album.

One of Genesis' most legendary, iconic and contraversal tracks. Despite the controversy, I don't have much hate on it, because it's truly a masterpiece, and like all Genesis tracks, theres a message too it, and this one states it clearly, which is not wrong. Honestly, an extremely underrated track, in an underrated album, and has to be one of my most favorite Genesis' tracks-I know I say it alot but it's so hard to pick from favorites! Real iconic, and literally something you can't get outta your head for years, and thats something I can honestly say. They'll be never anything alike Genesis, or Phil's work. Legendar, even the video for it is hillarious. What an era 😂👑

@@randomfordmustang2877 I have, In general I'm more of a PC era fan, but the PG era was just as great, or even greater imo. I know a lot of people like the old era albums, and I understand clearly why, espically the early ones like Foxtrot, Lamb, Nursery, Pound and etc.
This is a catchy pop song mate. They couldn't be further from their prog rock roots, so not for me. There's a couple of belters on this album, but this isn't one of them.
@@tattyheid7279 My man, It's literally defined as one of their most catchiest songs pratically in every article. Obviosuly, it isn't in their prog roots, we all got different likes and tastes, I like multiple genres of music, and Genesis is perfect, espically in eras.

Fun bit of trivia - in the Simpsons episode "Bart Sells His Soul" they wanted to have Bart pranking the church congregation by handing out hymn sheets to this song, but they couldn't clear the rights so they had to wo with Inna-Gadda-Davida instead.

I LOVE the animated spinning record. I have this album on vinyl, but it is so scratched and horrible now, this is fantastic to listen to.
I'm in my late 30's and have been listening to this since I was a wee lad. I can't tell you how happy I am to see that a modern band has covered this and introduced it to a new generation. Music at its best is timeless, and should be shared s widely as possible

I know some people are probably gonna hate me, but I like Ghost's version a lot more. It sounds much better as a hard rock song and totally suits their image. And the music video they made for it conveys this message much better.
I know the song is supposed to be about televangelists and false prophets, but I think it exposes the hypocrisy of religious people in general.
Love this song too. Their is only one way up through the innocent blood of King Jesus Christ who was murdered by sinners that is why believing in him who was tortured, mocked and murdered is the only way up. All must bow down to him and follow him.
