I can confirm the info on the handbrake is true for the gen.2 cars, as wa demonstrated to me by an instructor at the Silverstone driving school. All gen.2 4WD can be changed to RWD including the turbo's.
Didn't know about the chrono moving tho. Every day's a school day. 👍

From how you guys are describing this, I assume there's no chance this will work on a 991.1 turbo? ...because that would put a smile on my face it it did work on the 997.1tt!

    • @yammy1000
      @yammy1000 5 років тому +2

@@TheMinuteFamily it might work. Only one way to find out. I was shown it on a 997.2 turbo to show the difference it made on the ice hill. Of course if yours has an electronic hand brake then it defo won't work...

@@yammy1000 I'm sorry, I meant to ask if it worked on the 997.1 turbo, I typo'd on the last reply. My 997.1 turbo does have a mechanical ebrake, and I guess I'll have to find a wet patch of grass to try and test it out!

@@TheMinuteFamily In that case, no it won't work. I've tried 😉. Only available fron the 997.2 onwards unfortunately. Unless it can be coded in after.

The memory buttons also save the external mirror positions, so you can set them up for each driver once and then have quick access to perfect seat+mirror position. Furthermore, the first memory setting is connected to which of the two keys you used to unlock the car. For example, on my girlfriends 997, we programmed my seat+mirror position on Memory1 for the spare key. Whenever I drive it, I will use the spare key to unlock the car and the seat+mirror will be in the right position for me when I get in.

Good tips you brought up, although I already knew all of them. More important, the oil level indicated was NOT low. It is very harmful for these cars to overfill them. The area between the top and bottom of that measurement is approximately 1 quart, so when it gets to he very bottom of the scale, it is only a maximum of 1 quart low, but with the boxer engine, slightly low is better than slightly high. On a seperate note, you can clean up those awful looking scuff marks on the black plastic entry sills with a Magic Eraser and a little water. Will make them look like new in 10 seconds! Beautiful car!

Oil wise I measure mine stone cold after being left on a level surface. I then add 200mL at a time, cycle the key (without ever starting the car) and check until it reaches the top. The measuring routine will pick up the added oil straight away. Then drive it for a few days and recheck.

There is a switch in the driver's footwell that will raise the spoiler when the car is parked. The two radiator ports in the front need to be checked occasionally for leaves or trash that gets blown in. A shop vac works to suck that stuff out.

I've heard something about #1 on the forums but this clarifies it. Didn't know about 2, 3, 5, 8, and 10. #3 is pretty cool, if true. I wonder if there are any negative effects of it. #4, I've read on the forums as well, but now I know what it actually looks like. 10 is one of those that you don't really get unless you're in one. Sticking with the 997.x for the hydraulic steering - you can feel when the tires start losing contact with the road, especially when autocrossing or other spirited driving. The newer electric assist doesn't give you that feedback. And I still prefer the sound of a naturally aspirated engine. I think the 997 will be a classic. #14. Open the drivers door, next to the hinge is a manual release for the fuel filler cap. Sometimes the plastic gears on the actuator for the fuel cap lock get damaged and it stops working, if it fails in the locked position and you need to fill up you can get the fuel filler cap open, other wise it is wheel off, wheel arch liner out, remover actuator etc.

Great Video, I have just put mine away for a bit and fitted a battery circuit breaker, now watching your video about flat batteries, will your trick still work if the battery is disconected? I see your from the north east, I have just recieved my 992 which I bought from Porsche Newcastle and have had it shipped down to NZ!

Nice One Mark. I'm a little confused though, is is not easier to buy a 911 in your area, or do you plan to come back to the UK with it? Thanks for watching :-) Daily Porsche Content on the Facebook Page facebook.com/porschenetworks/

I’m just stunned at the state of some of the materials used in this car. What’s going on with the centre console near the drivers seat belt socket? And the leather on the seats is wrinkled! It just seems like it’s showing it’s age very badly.

I was told by my Porsche dealership the Sport bottom and PASM bottom must always be ON. “Do not just turn On the Sport with out the PASM, what do you think are the implication in using them ON or OFF alone or together.

True story, my battery died in my 997. I went to the fuse box to pull out the "Jump" fuse, it was gone! Previous owner removed it? Sooooo, another hidden benefit, removed the drivers side front wheel (US cars), located in the upper wheel well is a black circular gromment, pry it off and it's attached to a emergency hood release cable, use pliers and pull, the hood pops open.

  • @GeoffreyVickers-c2f

Note on a 997.2. If you leave the key in the ignition in the off position, it Will run down the battery! Counterintuitive but true.

  • @pjvenda

Batteries dying on 997 seem to be a very common theme. Mine just does not. Especially since it goes to sleep after 7 days of sitting with no activity.

Nothing new to a 997 owner. Also, keep in mind that when you have two keys to this car, you can set up seating and mirror memory to two different drivers. As soon as you put the key in the ignition switch, things move around to that driver's positions.

They two keys have their own M1 memory setting. Not global M1, M2 and M3 but both keys have their own 3 settings. Also wish the car would know better if the owner of key no. 2 eg has driven slowly in resent weeks and with key no 1 the opposite, so I would get a proper responce from the PDK box from the start. Not so if the mrs has driven the car most of the time, rather it takes some time and more distance before the car adusts to the drivers liking. I think this would have been easy to modify just by noting which key is being activated. Hmmm.

Satch, always admire and appreciate your videos, but at the risk of sounding preachy it always makes me wince when I see people sitting on their seat side bolsters. Over time it crushes them and really knackers them up. Leather seats look great in the early years but crushed and worn out leather makes it look like the car's been owned by a lardy arse.

  • @_arthouse

Car is looking mint mate! I have the Adaptive Sport seats like yours, but my memory function has never worked/been able to reset. Are you supposed to hold the 'M' button, then the key number? I've tried everything and think it needs taking to Porsche to reset the key, 2 indy's haven't been able to sort mine. I found if i lock the car, then unlock it straight away, it locks itself after a minute or so (if i don't open any doors), then the seat stays where i left it, otherwise it goes back to the key setting from the previous owner!
Another button that i've noticed other people didn't know about, is the little button on the underside of the main right hand stalk, press it and it activates the headlight wash.
