Insane is an understatement. It took me 12 months just to WRITE a feature length film, and that’s for something that hasn’t even been produced yet. Hell could you edit a feature in a month? I think just barely, but that’s assuming all the footage is shot and everything else is ready to go. What you’re proposing is to write, cast, storyboard/block, shoot, score, edit and master a feature in a single month, for 12 months. Godspeed sir, please don’t die!
you should definitely check out his other films, especially drowning in potential and we need to leave here together, they were both completely shot in one day and edited in the weeks afterwards. Joel has an insane talent for making simple yet immensely moving films on a shoestring budget, in my opinion he's the best filmmaker of our time.
So wait by yet do you mean you're trying to to get it published? Just wondering because the language "yet" implies you think it's a guarantee lol, anyone can write a script or book 💀

The cat peeking through the window during the last few shots is so adorable and perfect. Best of luck to you Joel, your love for film and your drive to keep challenging yourself (despite the algorithms no less) is inspiring.
We leave here together literally changed my relationship. I mean that will all the love in my heart because it really opened my eyes to things. I felt alone in how I felt in my relationship and it made me feel awful. I saw the film and it was exactly how I felt. I never thought a UA-cam film could make me sob my eyes out in my living room. It gave me courage to speak up instead of just shutting it away and things got a lot better. Thank you so much for what you do and I can’t wait to see more of these films. 💕
That is so beautiful to share, I'm beyond honored that my artwork could help you in such a personal way. I wish you and your partner the best, thanks for watching
I know you probably won’t see this Joel, but I just want to say I find you incredibly inspiring and have ever since I first found you a couple years now. I’m no film maker, hell, not even a particularly creative type, but your obvious passion for what you do, your sense of adventure and ambition, and ultimately, a resounding sense of contentment and love inspire me so much. I hope to live life as fully as you do, and I’m working at it each day. So thank you for the laughs, the reflections, and the sense of hope you’ve been providing me for these past couple years. Much love ❤️
Thanks for the lovely words, Garrett! Thanks for sticking around and following me on my creative journey. I hope your life may be full of experience and love! Much love
“Please don’t turnout to be a murderer” You may need to sit down with a glass of water and maybe a favorite plushie (we’ve all got at least one. No shame.) WatchJoel’s visits to Sven Johnson, Scott Cramer and Jesus Christ himself. Videos were made 2 years ago I think as he drove his VAN on his way to live in California. I know I’m forgetting the name of another person he visited, the very first, but I’m sure someone will provide that info. God Speed.
You got this Joel! Your videos are always a treat. I instantly recognized your filming location. When I need a quiet day to myself I bring a folding chair, a lunchbox, and a book and sit by that shoreline all day. That spot means the world to me, and I'm glad to see it brings you joy too.
I'm a 57 yr old artist, mostly comics and storyboards, retired and making the switch to micro/no budget filmmaking. This video was a big shot in the arm, man. What you've been doing for the last few years has been entertaining and inspiring. Psyched to see you taking on this new venture!
It's interesting, the animator Meat Canyon has just released a clip stating something of the same intent, with much the same creative rationale and goals. I absolutely applaud you for this. It's a levelling up, a natural evolution of your craft, and though change is by its nature scary, if it's staying true to yourself, then it's also exciting and inevitably set to push your artistic boundaries to new heights. Love ya, bro... You got this. Happy new year, everybody... Much love to you all, and just like Joel, whatever you are moved to aim for this year... You all absolutely got this. Grab 2024 by the horns and kick its ass.
I always love how Joel shoots himself as this little guy in this big beautiful world to really show the scale of how seemingly insignificant he might be, but he's unironically made the most impact of any creator I know. With Joel, what you see is what you get and I think I speak for everyone when I say we love you too Joel. Your capacity to care for your work, yourself, and others makes the world seem that much brighter and worth living in. People like you make this world meaningful. Thank you.
this video goes INSANEO style EDIT: omg so excited to see 12 more feature films throughout this year. You are by far the most inspirational and my favorite active creative at the moment. I cannot wait to see what you got cookin'
I still go back to watch "We have to leave here together" and recommended any chance I get. It brought me a lot of joy to hear you say it's some of your proudest works
I'm so excited for you, Joel! I absolutely love your work and find your channel so inspiring. You and your friends are some of the most wholesome, down to earth people out there and I think you deserve all the success in the world! I'm excited to see what this new chapter brings :)
The "shots fired" immediately followed by "but not really, sincerely, thank you" is exactly why people like me have stuck around since the early days lol. Keep doing what you do!
“You from the future” was the first non animation I saw from you. The fact you got your dad to play in it really made me smile, my dad was always my favorite person growing up and I’m happy you had his support before his passing. I’m truly looking forward to these 12 films
I think the algorithm did punish you because this is the first I'm seeing this. I remember watching pretend that you love me a few years ago and I was blown away. Looking forward to watching the rest. You rock
I was tearing up only three minutes in just because your sincerity and enthusiasm is beautiful. Your attitude is inspiring and I’m glad to kick off the new year with your content. I just saw Goodlongpee and it wasn’t just good, it actually made my day better. Your work is much appreciated positivity for a lot of people.
You and Tom Scott in the same day, that's rough... I'm glad you'll both still be around at least! I'll happily go look at your other work. I didn't even know it was there. And I'm looking forward to the monthly films. Happy New Year's :)
Joel, good of you for being you and not focusing on the money grabbing and focusing on the content. A true artist!!!! There’s a reason you have a good following. You rock.
It's really humbling to see Joel with his weekly uploads every week consistently even after his untimely demise a few months ago. The dedication this man has even from heaven is awe inspiring. RIP Joel
“We Have to Leave Here Together” is a great film. Felt familiar, It hit me hard. Look forward to seeing what you come up with this year. Thank you Joel.
I watched Pretend that You Love Me in one of the lowest points in my life. I can't express to you, Joel, how much that movie meant to me. I felt so seen and understood. I was completely hooked from beginning to end and it brought great comfort. Thank you for the amazing work that you are doing.
The fact that my film could comfort you through a difficult time means so much to hear. Pretend That You Love Me helped me to communicate and process a lot and all I could ask is that it does the same for others. Wish you well and the ability to move through hard times with grace.
I'm sad about losing your weekly videos, yet the anxious ambition you have to make a feature every month actually brought a tear to my tired eyes. You honor your fans by following your dreams, Insano-style!
Pretend That You Love Me was incredibly provocative, both emotionally and intellectually, and spoke deeply to the hopeless romantic in me. The layers you created in your character had me thinking about your film for days. I won't lie, your animations are what brought me to you, but it was your friendship with Trent and your true passion for film making that kept me hungry for more Joel Haver. I'm looking forward to these 12 new films. You're an inspiration.
Pretend You Love Me was the first of Joel's feature-length films that I watched after discovering his channel when the ebsynth animations took off, it was quite wonderful to discover that "Funny RPG skit guy" has such a breadth of talent. Excited to check out the upcoming 12, what an ambitious but impressive project!
Joel, when you told me your plans, I wasn't surprised. Concerned, a little worried maybe but I'm your Mom - that's my job. As always, I couldn't be more proud or love you more ❤❤
Omg so this why, I just wonder why I haven't see Joel for so long. Apparent UA-cam didn't recommend your long film to me, Gonna binge your film Joel stay amazing ❤❤
You going 'full artist mode' helps make space for others who need to do the weekly thing to get to where you are, and also encourages ppl like me to go 'full artist mode' more in my pursuits. So thank you!! Excited for all of it.
I still think Pretend You Love Me is the best thing on youtube, and maybe the absolute best film about loneliness in the modern age ive ever seen. Absolutely worth the time to watch.
I watched We Have To Leave Here Together when it first came out and it was one of the most impactful pieces of art I have ever watched. Thanks for the weekly shorts and thanks for all of your creativity Joel - can’t wait to see what’s next!
I opened this video half expecting a joke/reference to the other youtuber that quitted recently, and half afraid that you would quit youtube completely. I've always enjoyed your videos, mainly the comedies, music videos and animations, it brought some joy into my life during the quarantine and after. I'm glad that you've decided to take on new challenges, and wish you the best in these 12 new films. I usually watched the shorter videos, but I will definitely watch the movies you'll make this year, it will be a monthly movie night.
I wouldn't want to see Joel go either, but if he did...it wouldn't be the worst youtuber quitting as Joel has SO SO much content already. Check out his earliest videos that are still very high quality and have under 1000 views. This AND the playlist called "Collabs with cool people" that has hundreds of videos of Joel with his friends
I think about Pretend That You Love Me probably once a week. I watched it at a pretty pivotal point in my life and it spoke to me in a way that a lot of other movies don't. I've always thought your features were the best stuff you put out and I'm very excited to see how this experiment goes for you
Joel, we'll all miss your goofs and gaffs. It's pretty sad to see that you're moving away from big guy small guy, but I'm hype as heck to see your future stuff. The longer and more emotional films you've made have always had a place in my heart, and in particular Pretend That You Love Me has deeply impacted my view of life. They are incredible works of art which have changed lives. I'm very excited to see more of you being you.
@ 8:21 We have a little peeper in the background!! Also, now that you have come as far as you have, you no longer have to hone your edge on creation like you once did. You're in your stride, ready to use what you've learned to its fullest. You've done incredibly well, Joel. I'll miss the old weeklies, but would rather see you be able to make something as grand as you see fit. Happy New Year, friend!
We Have to Leave Here Together is one of those films that sends me into the deepest wells of my emotions every time it springs into my mind. I'll be honest and say that I didn't expect much from it when I started watching. I thought it would be an hour of 'haha man in a wig'. It was heartwrenching mate and it absolutely floored me. Your ability to bravely express your love with sincerity is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for sharing your art and best of luck with your goals in the new year!
Western Mass native here and just wanted to say I love whenever you're back home and use the area as a backdrop. We're about the same age and I fell in love with art making short films with friends a few towns over. You mention making filmmaking accessible and when you use home as a canvas you're doing just that. You show us that your art is just as good whether it's made in LA and NY or small towns and forests and that makes it feel more attainable for everyone. Thanks for that and excited to see what you make this year!
It’s incredibly difficult to create anything. The fact that you’ve been as consistent as you are is astounding, looking forward to whatever else comes next
I noticed I had a Joel Haver-sized hole in my life, so I came and found this video. Thank you for being transparent, and good luck with your ambitious 2024 work!!
For years you’ve been a massive inspiration to me in staying true to myself and making the art i want to make, for me - i’m heading into 2024 with a “deadlines?” mentality, so i can detach from the upload cycle and focus on the art. i’m stoked to see you’re changing it up as well, and VERY excited to watch these films as they come out!! this is a big move, but i believe in you and your ability to reach people with film
Joel I can’t tell you how amazing this news is. Surprising? Absolutely. But amazing? One hundred percent. Pretend That You Love Me is my favourite film of all time, Forget About Everything For Awhile, Island, I’m going to be famous and Drowning in Potential are all in my top 30. Without fail all of your movies have made it into my top 100. You’ve inspired me for such a long time through pushing the boundaries of how movies can be made. This year I finally became the person I’ve always wanted to be thanks to your work. I created my own film (released as a web-series) with $0. It’s a funny feeling going into 2024, because the whole world feels a little bit easier now 😂 Good luck with this project Joel, like most, I’m blown away to know there’ll be twelve more Joel Haver films in my list of favourite movies this year
I’m blown away too! Doubling my features in one year is insanity, but I know it’ll push me into exciting uncharted waters. It’s an honor that my films could be so special to you, thanks so much for watching them. So happy to see you release your film as a series last year! I’ve said it before but you’re way ahead of the curve, it gets easier to make your next big project when you’ve already made one that’s for sure. Have fun creating my friend :)
Thank you Joel ! I try to show your stuff to as many people I love as possible - I really appreciate your personal candid touch to the world that it seems to need. Rock on !
If there was anyone with enough passion and ambition to pull something like this off, it's you Joel. Your dedication to your craft is unparalleled. I'm not a filmmaker but you have inspired me to challenge myself in my own way this year.
What a time to be alive and watch amazing talent go from strength to strength. I am hoping he's going to peek out of the window at the end of lots more Joel Haver videos.
The oh no picture should be in a museum, but on an honest note, I love your work! I not only think you have the skill to reach your goals but have the talent to make them shine, I wish you the best of luck!
Your dad would be so incredibly proud to see you take this step, Joel. Thank you for sharing the very essence of your creativity with us. You bring joy and laughter to millions every day. Excited for these next 12 months!!
You’ve taught me so much about what art. Sincerity, novelty, feeling something and having the balls to stand up and yell “does anyone else feel like this”. I’ve never subscribed to a Patreon before, but am happy to make your channel my first. Break a leg this year! So excited to see what you accomplish!
This is so incredibly sincere, that it made me cry. I generally don’t experience most emotions very profoundly, so I doff my cap and say well done to you. You’re a good guy, Joel.

He’s really going insaneo style!
I wish you and your partner the best, thanks for watching
i apologise for being the 70th like
We love you Joel! We will miss the weekly films so much. So excited to see the projects this year, and I hope it inspires many to start their own!
on ward on upwards....GO JOEL!
Much love
@@Joel-Haver I'm inspired by the beauty and love in your words. Thank you for being a good person, as well as a great creator.
The way you talk about creativity and making work is so refreshing on UA-cam. You're an inspiration Joel, please don't turn out to be a murderer.
Seriously he's like the only genuine person on youtube lol
Or no scams, please please please
or pedo😂
“Please don’t turnout to be a murderer” You may need to sit down with a glass of water and maybe a favorite plushie (we’ve all got at least one. No shame.) WatchJoel’s visits to Sven Johnson, Scott Cramer and Jesus Christ himself. Videos were made 2 years ago I think as he drove his VAN on his way to live in California. I know I’m forgetting the name of another person he visited, the very first, but I’m sure someone will provide that info. God Speed.
Im pretty sure he killed Jesus.
8:56 the cat peaking through the window is adorable haha
You got this Joel! Your videos are always a treat.
I instantly recognized your filming location. When I need a quiet day to myself I bring a folding chair, a lunchbox, and a book and sit by that shoreline all day. That spot means the world to me, and I'm glad to see it brings you joy too.
It’s a lovely spot. So many great little coves to sit and think in. Thanks for the support, I wish you well. Enjoy your next sit on the shore!
@@Joel-HaverYou as well!
P.S. Your movies have been stellar! Keep up the great work!
8:56 kitty cameo was sheer perfection.
I'm a 57 yr old artist, mostly comics and storyboards, retired and making the switch to micro/no budget filmmaking. This video was a big shot in the arm, man. What you've been doing for the last few years has been entertaining and inspiring. Psyched to see you taking on this new venture!
Came for the animations, stayed for everything else. Excited to see what you come up with!
Your demeanor in this video is so packed with joy and positivity that it's practically intoxicating.
Thank you.
this video goes INSANEO style

Trust me when I say this guy LOVES movies and I have no doubt he'll be making great ones this year you rock Joel!
“You from the future” was the first non animation I saw from you. The fact you got your dad to play in it really made me smile, my dad was always my favorite person growing up and I’m happy you had his support before his passing. I’m truly looking forward to these 12 films
His work with his dad is some of my favorite, they were so wholesome together
Dude, yes. Feelin nervous? A little unsure? Are you aware of the challenge ahead? That's what growth feels like. I can't wait man. You got this.
Joel, good of you for being you and not focusing on the money grabbing and focusing on the content. A true artist!!!! There’s a reason you have a good following. You rock.
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching my friend! I wish you the best!

You are consistently the best boy. Thank you for that.
This is Insaneo Style!
8:55 Kitty in the window!
I’ve only watched your animations thus far, but I’m looking forward to what you cook up next! Happy New Year! 🎉
Excited to see everything you give us this year. Also, love the cat peeking out of the window.
Your ambition and earnest optimism is so damn infectious. Can't wait to see what you come up with next - good luck in 2024, Joel!
Wow, it's been so long since I've seen a vid of yours, just checked your channel description, hope you're enjoying your hiatus:)

I wish u good luck 👍

So excited for the next 12 months. Keep it Joel! You are an inspiration to us all.
Joel, when you told me your plans, I wasn't surprised. Concerned, a little worried maybe but I'm your Mom - that's my job. As always, I couldn't be more proud or love you more ❤❤
I really hope you and Bart still get out on that ice. Someones gotta do it, even if the cameras arent rolling. Thank you for all you do.
Lonkiness is indeed a terrible plague on the mental health of society.

We have a little peeper in the background!!
We enjoy your work, Joel! The shorts and the longers!
2 feature length films would be nuts, 12 is insane. Best of luck, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Proud to be a drop in the bucket of support that keeps you going man, can't wait to see what you come up with
Thanks so much for the support, many great things to come!
Please never lose this level of heart, enthusiasm, and ingenuity. You are such an inspiration.
I do a lot of my film school essays on your movies!
V happy to hear the well is being replenished - i am so optimistic for 2024
I noticed I had a Joel Haver-sized hole in my life, so I came and found this video.

Best of luck, glad to see you following what you're passionate about.
You are a hero in a dark age. Thank you for making art!
This rocks so hard, insanely stoked for you man, it really is so inspiring seeing you do this shit and kick it up to the next level like this. Love to see you keep challenging yourself. Would love to help you in any way I can over this next year. Best of luck man!
