I love movies
an amazing accomplishment. Good work dudes
Thank you Hunter, you the best!
love seeing one of my favourite youtuber appreciating the content of my other favourite youtuber
"Hey, I decided to make 12 movies in 12 months. Sounds like a fun project."
>Proceeds to make the longest stop-motion animation musical ever made as one of the 12.
Pretty sure it's the world record actually! The previous holder, Kubo and the Two Strings, is 101 minutes long. This movie is 141!
@@Jaws31 It's not entirely stop motion though, strictly speaking - most of the scenes with God use live acting. It's not 141 minutes total of stop motion.
@@globalincident694There isn’t 40 minutes of scenes with God
Joel you are simply amazing, holy moly. The amount of sound design needed for this one is unbelievable!! Incredible job!
Thank you so much, it was a lot of sound design for sure, luckily it was very fun to see it all come to life!
Seeing Eric not acting like a maniac was something else.
Honestly, I was impressed by Eric’s acting. It was no frills and naturalistic. There were no dramatic fireworks to center his character pin the story and no scenery chewing. It reminded me of how great actors like Phillip Seymour-Hoffman or John Casale disappear into their roles. I’m not saying Eric has their craft, but he’s got the foundation for it. I hope he continues to pursue acting roles like this and I hope he continues to hone his acting craft.
the liveaction parts of the film contrasted so well. It got me so into the story.
@@Katsumi_Maki Pushing the slippers on to “God’s feet” was a moment that blended “pretend stop motion dolls” with “real life human being”. It became a seamless reality.
Bro your movie was absolutely insaneo style! Stop motion and a musical! Just amazing!
Thank you!!!
This probably fucked up your schedule but this was worth it!
INSANEO STYLE HAHAA
A week, maybe 2 weeks of editing after April 30th. Bang on, perfect prediction.
I laughed hard. Ambitious as fuck. Was before June 30th, though.
Hahahha! I was close with the second prediction at least!
The action scenes were INSANE and the FIRE?! wow... I have no words, honestly. Can't wait for the budget breakdown.
“You’re gonna see the putty”
Joel Haver, 2024
if any of you haven’t had a chance to watch this movie yet, please add it to your watchlist, it’s amazing. I was unbelievably hyped to see that joel and eric had made this movie together, and it blew my expectations out of the water
Hell, just watch it instead of putting it on your watch list. Watch 5 or 10 minutes and you’ll either continue watching or you’ll make time to watch the rest of it as soon as you can.
My headcanon is that the toys evolved to secrete putty and hot glue from their feet to keep them from falling over constantly
Genius
Mine too
Why were the squirrels speaking Mandarin !!?!!! LMAOOO
I love you guys
This movie just punched me right in the face last night. It was crazy heavy for stop motion toys with funny voices and I never saw it coming. Amazing work folks.
Thank you for watching! Happy that we could provide you a good punch to the face hahaha
Bravo, guys. I really loved it. "We fight for the power we hold over those we love, because we know the power they hold over us." The dialogue was so damn good. Everything was so damn good.
"And just like that, God was dead. And all his creatures had no one to blame but themselves."
Another Iconic line.
In the beginning, I didn't know if I was going to get into it, but the story took over and I didn't see them as toys anymore! Great movie 👍
If this movie was at 12 or 24 fps, it would loose something. The film perfectly embraces the limitations of stop motion while doing things I don't think have ever been done in the medium.
Agreed, the lower fps made it feel fun
SPOILERS!
The house fire scene blew my mind, would love to know how you managed animating a figure engulfed in flames all while keeping the fire under control. Loved the ambition with this project!
I would LOVE to see how this was done!
I would also love to hear!
I... actually didn't even think about that. Really says something that the movie was so engaging that at some point the very obviously janky stop motion just became reality and I stopped wondering how things were done behind the scenes, just accepting the story at face value. Definitely interested to hear the breakdown of moments like that now though.
The cinematography that you guys had doing a stop motion film with old grimey toys was crazy. That second musical number in particular was something else
The camera moves really got my attention. They add a terrific sense of drama.
So cool. So insightful. So proud of u guys
I haven't had time to watch the film yet, but man was I so excited when I saw the thumbnail and the credits featured Eric so heavily! Ever since you shared his Pikmin 3 video I have just appreciated Eric's work ever since. Cannot wait to watch the movie with my wife.
Make time to see it. It’s worth rearranging your schedule.
"we found the perfect level of jank where you could be loose but quality"
I hope I find this level of jank one day ❤️
Doing improv with stop motion animation is really impressive! After watching I was wondering how you pulled that off
long lost cousins
Perhaps we are! Love the guy!
You and Eric, and maybe some of the cast should do a watchalong / live commentary retrospective thing some day
As a stop motion animator myself, I cannot fathom the amount of work this must have been. Really cool to see the respect and love for stop motion animation still alive and well!
I loved this movie. Also reminded me (in a good way) of the Spike Jonze/Beastie Boys/Santigold video for Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win.
If you thought this movie was fun i implore you to check our Eric's stuff.
He is a rare person who really is pushing the format.
I think this is my favorite movie you’ve made so far. Watched it twice already, great job on the stop motion and amazing sound design too! Thanks guys!
I watched the movie late last night and just posted a review of it on my channel. Everyone who helped make this movie should feel proud, it was such a fun movie. My favorite character was Carl. His singing was perfect for the character. I recommend everyone that enjoys film to watch. By the way, after the first 60 seconds, I never paid any attention to the string or adhesive on any characters, you made them come alive. I have not watched all of your films but this is by far my favorite.
I agree and think it would take away from the unique media style and setting if all supportive material was hidden or the characters moved seamlessly etc.
Very fun film indeed!
One of the many things that I love about the feature-length film project is that it shows a very direct conversion of "patronage donations become art".
Obviously with all independent artists, the money that you give them becomes art in indirect ways. It's like a "please tip me for the art of yesterday so that I can work on the art of today" deal. But the relationship here is much more concrete. The patreons are paying for you to make the next movie in a very direct way, and I like to see that.
I love this way of looking at it and I’m glad you feel that way! I wanted people to know their money is going directly to the art and nothing else for that reason.
“We made a stop motion feature film”
and it is so good!!
Showing the hand crafted nature of this movie added so much to the visual language of the film. It was just the right amount of gritty which was balanced by a stunning message and a gorgeous score. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!
it's so weird seeing the clown in one piece
feels bizarre seeing eric in this state
Eric is my fav youtuber. Literally binged all of his vids over a few days once I found his channel. Incredible work
Thank you Joel and Eric for Dogville Toy Story🙏❤
I am completely mind blown man. This is by far your most impressive work. The story characters and songs are all fantastic. You inspire me so much man.
You give me hope in art, how do you accomplish something like that in a month and put it out for free on UA-cam??? Incredible.
I instantly recognized "Falling Freddy's" tower behind them.
Just had a thought after watching this...
[spoilers ahead]
I can see the End of Evangelion influence!
I'm still figuring out how you do an entire 2 and a half hour stop motion film with a cast etc when it's improvised. Did you have a script, or did you tell the actors what to say?
Joel will you marry me please?
0:38
"...like this video..."
The like button does a shimmy
This makes me want to watch it again already. I have experience flying out to meet people for a couple weeks and living together to make a movie and you are just in it together thru it all and its so fun. Making movies is the best
I just watched the movie, I literally have no words, I absolutely loved it, and I'm so glad you guys gave it the time it needed to really shine, though maybe going for a stop-motion during the 12 movies challenge wasn't the best idea XD
I really wish I could just dive into the set, not literally, everything would topple, but I wish I could be there where the toys are, I'd absolutely love to explore their silly little town, I can imagine doing so in a virtual environment like VR or something.
Easily gets into my top 3 of Joel movies, maybe top 2 even
Joel I am really inspired by this project. I have been working on an album for a few years as a passion project. Last year I had 4 songs done and broke my computer, learning a valuable lesson about backing stuff up. Anyways this year getting back to where I was has been slow. Having some songs done feels good but sometimes it can feel like a slog to push beyond what I've done before to get my goal of releasing my music. Honestly seeing you do this movie a month project and perservere with ambitious projects really gives me hope and inspiration. The stop motion was blended very well with the live action btw!
you go and do it man, for yourself, you will feel so good about it. you got this!
@@toby7032 thanks!
This video made me love the movie even more. It really was a labor of love between two buddies. I'm a longtime Nokeric fan and it makes me so happy to see this film. You both did awesome.
Will we get a directors commentary for this movie?
Just watched it, great work guys! Amazing mind boggling work.
In CREDIBLY impressive, boys. Holy cow!
I'm genuinely amazed. Not only did you make a stop motion feature, but you made it in record time. On top of that, it's a truly amazing film. Your creativity and ambition is really inspiring.
Thank you Joel. Will you ever screen any of your features in a theatre? My local place is called the guild cinema abq would love to experience your work with others
I cant even imagine what the "directors cut" of this movie would be like lol
holy balls this is so inspiring for me as an animator. I mean, this whole thing has been! but--part of me was also like... yeah but you can't really do what he's doing in your medium in the same timeframe... WELL. There's that excuse!
I’m really surprised how little you planned the movie because of how good it was
Such a great movie! Thanks for the extra effort!
I think its cool you kinda made barbienheimer
Damn that’s funny, it is almost June 30th lol
The movie was beautiful! The plot was darkly hilarious. I hope the movie gets more views. At least I hope that some producers see it and give ya money for an even bigger project.
The plots of your movies are always so unexpected. The longer wait only added to the anticipation which made it all the more exciting when I finally was able to sit down and watch it. Your movies encourage us and show us that truly anyone can be a film maker with only an idea. Thank you so much Joel. I hope to be as successful as you one day
Legendary work fellas. So inspiring!
My boy Eric representing Minnesnowta on the world stage. New stop motion capital.
I got my start on UA-cam doing stop-motion and HMBC was such an inspirational callback to those days, where I learned all the basic of filmmaking on a micro level. It's a masterpiece. I just want to know more about your scriptwriting and voice-recording process!
Dude, how did you do that in just a month? I'm an animation line producer and produced a stop motion short in film school. We had 10 months of shooting for a 16 minute film!
red bull
It was an amazing film! I loved it so much, so full of life and very cool to watch. When I opened the movie and saw stop motion, I was just flabbergasted. I love having no expectations for your films, really feels like watching a movie for the first time
This is incredibly impressive and inspiring.
I was fully expecting it to be animated. The man took me by surprise once again.
I love stop motion, and after watching this movie, I really want to finally make my own stop motion film or short film.
Your film was so good! I keep thinking about it, and I have to rewatch it!
I feel inspired to make a stop motion movie now. Thanks Joel. I loved the movie. And I enjoy the ending. Very good bro. I hope you make a short film style in your animated style.
You could perhaps try doubling the frames with D.I. filling up the gaps..
Absolute mad lads! So impressive!
I'm curious, how does the process of improv stop motion work with the voice acting? Because the character movements all lined up so well with the dialogue. Do you put temp voice audio first and sync the animation to that? Or you just animate, write down some lines and trust the voice actor to line it up later?
I'm really fascinated at the concept of improv animation since historically it's so meticulously scripted and storyboarded, but this one worked so well without it!
Amazing movie❤ congratulations. It was so beautiful and scary and emotion-full. Great job. I feel proud of yall and that I got to watch this movie.
As a long time investor of $NOK and $ERIC , I approve so much
Luckily I was visiting with my mom when it dropped so we got to watch it together right away. Thanks for the great experience, didn't expect my mom to laugh so hard at a beastiality joke but you guys made it happen
Super high class. Masterful. Good work guys. If you don't mind me saying so, angelic. Patience be with us all.
I've had a busy summer, so I just got around to this. Absolutely beautiful. Didn't like the plot twist at the end, but I loved every second
This movie serves as definitive proof that constraints incubate creativity. Better than any movie I've seen in a theater. Well done :)
Bro I watched and I loved. Is amazing what you guy are doing.
I hope I’ll be able to watch one of your movies in a theatre here in Australia one day
Two of my all time favorite youtubers came together and made an abolute masterpiece. Seriously enjoyed this so much.
joel you have inspired me to make my own company. im writing a script for my film thank you so much for the inspiration
So impressive on all fronts!! 🎉🎉🎉
Loved this film from start to finish. Great work Mr.Joel I recommend you to all my family and friends
What an ambiguous project indeed! Personally, I found it hard to get used to the stop motion and the characters felt quite uncanny to me. While it's extremely impressive it won't be my favorite. Still, I laughed a lot and was very surprised about some plot twists and the general direction the movie took.
Wonderful flim, i stayed up late to watch it!
Grabbing Yerba Matte? What about Red Bull Eric!? So excited to watch your guys stop motion movie and definitely love all the hard work it sounds like you guys put into this film
Like a drug induced fever dream... I loved every strange minute of it!!!
This one sounds great, I really liked anyone else but me, but this sounds crazier
You can tell how entrenched in the work they were because even sitting down to make a post filming video they can't stop fidgeting with stuff for 15 mins :P but in all seriousness whether you take 10 years like Mad God or do it insaneo style quick like Joel and Eric its really cool and I hope we get more stopmotion in the future.
Hey Joel! I saw you in Smiling Friends recently and I was geeking out so much! you did such a great job and I really hope I get to see you again in it. Congratulations on the movie release! I'll be watching it soon
Bravo boys! Watching this story come together was like holding onto a rocket as it’s taking off. Phenomenal work, hopefully we’re getting a bit of rest this week
I started watching Nokeric after he was featured in the SubAtomaTV event put together by The Minute Hour and co.
Ever since then I've been an avid fan, it was a great joy to see him in this
You're one of the most inspirational people out there Joel. This masterpiece was just amazing and so timely. I can see it becoming a part of cinematic history.
When I realized I was gonna be seeing hot glue on dolls' feet the whole movie I was like "hell yeah." Also I love how you were able to convey motion clearly even on 6 fps. Really fun stuff.
I didn’t think I was going to like it. I started it thinking I’d skip it after a few minutes. I watched it in one go and I loved it. I really enjoyed “The level of imperfection” that you allowed in it.
I'm dying for a movie where the main character finds out about his plot armor, but slowly turns into the antagonist in the story due to him practically being immortal and can get out of any situation.
I am super excited for this one. Stop motion is so wonderful and what a pain. Thank you for continuing to make all these.
You know, I think a super useful product would be a bright green putty to edit it out as "greenscreen"
Just watched the movie and it is fantastic! best thing ive seen in along long time. Just so unique and i never knew what to expect. I really loved seeing the sort of janky nature of it and how you can see the putty holding everyone up. Just makes it feel so much more real & human
Release the Snyder Cut of Hello My Beautiful Creatures
