This is what makes Tupac the GOAT: Tupac was a poet. One of the few rappers who can take us emotionally, spiritually and mentally where he wants us to be with his lyrics like a true artist. Very few rappers can tap into that emotional side like he can and still embody all the characteristics, nuances and contradictions of a complex human being. He can teach you a concise history lesson on black power suppression in one song like "Tears of a Clown." No other artist was in touch with the human spirit like he was. That's why he appealed to so many genres and touched so many people. No other rapper was so in touch with life like he was. He lived everyday like it truly was his last day. The man lived life to the fullest. Technically, in rap, very few had a flow like him. He can ride the beat like no other and have you transfixed. That's why his guest spots can change anyone's track to a classic. Also, one of the few artist that actually gave you a TRUE freestyle instead of something previously thought out. That is actually unheard of in rap if you know how to spot it. Only some gifted mainly underground rappers can do that and majority of your great ones simply can't no matter what you like to believe. That brings us into his honesty which is where many of his problems with other rappers started. He was honest (real) to a fault and that is what made him truly compelling as an artist but it also made him very susceptible to sheisty and opportunistic individuals. You knew that when you opened up an album of his, unlike majority of albums from other rappers, you were going to get a dose of truth. That is intrinsic of him throughout his career and that is the single quality that makes him also a great actor. All great actors unlike what many people think are honest people with the humanity of what they reveal through characters. It's the deceitful ones that are often the bad or less compelling actors. With the proper training and dedication to that craft, he had the scope to become truly one of the greats in that field as well. Also, Tupac grew as an artist and you can see that in all his albums. I would say he came into his own as a full artist on his third album but every subsequent album from his first showed you what greatness he had that you never thought he could do before. Who thought he could've made an such a compelling track like "Me and my Girlfriend", "Hail Mary" or the angry pathos of "Hit Em Up" or a straight headbanger like the original version of a "Military Minds" (which could've turned into a seemingly mundane track if not for him) judging by his previous work? There was no telling how much greater he could've became. The man had almost a limitless talent pool inside him where other artists peaked early and try desperately to get back that original spark that made them great.
Johnny Blaze That was beautiful! Made me cry! I remember the day he died. I was 13 y/o and was kicking it with my friends and this little kid came running up to us yelling 2Pac died 2Pac died. At that moment we, the four of us start crying I almost drop in my knees had my friend not held me. It was like we had just heard a close friend die. I remember crying myself to sleep. He had truly touched our hearts in a way no rapper has ever had the ability to. And to this day I admire the being he was and all his talents!!!
Bro that's exactly my thought process and this is the comment I just wrote on a previous video, good to see something a long the same lines as I exactly think about Tupac. "Tupac was beyond just a "rapper" the man evoked true human emotions in his song, that is another level of genius. Most music, yah you listen to it catchy beat bob your head it's cool but with pac not only do you do all that but you FEEL. As humans beings we have emotions and he can use words and his style to evoke all levels of human emotion wether it be for you mother (Dear Mama) feeling rage (Hell razor) feeling world should change (Changes) love for your friends (never had a friend like me) straight savage diss & roast (Hit em up) sadness from past (shed so many tears) love for your dead friends (pour out a little liquor) respect for real woman (Hold ya Head up) harsh story about another individual (Brendas got a baby) getting through rough times (Better Dayz) being silly with girls (I get around) you get the point, name ANY other artists that can deeply evoke and touch on every human emotion a human being goes through in life. There is none only one LEGEND which is TUPAC. 🙏"
Agreed. "Me Against" was the best album. *Was focused mentally and therefore lyrically. *He was with his favorite producers Johnny J and Shock G. *Limited features to a minimum. *Had to get the album done specifically before going to jail so song selection was very important.
Tupac is the GOAT because he was 100% real and you knew exactly what he meant and was feeling with every line and verse. He dominated Conscious rap and Gangsta rap within the space of 5 years! He made 2 of the greatest diss tracks of all-time- "Hit Em Up" and "Against All Odds".
In my humble opinion, Eminem is the GOAT (a fuckin' Oscar award for a hip-hop song, man!) but "Hit Em Up" it's the No1 diss track of all times. Savage!

Could this be the first time the replacement of a host was greeted with such acceptance? To what level will Murs take HipHopDX's signature segment? And will we ever hear "Roll the clip James"? I don't have the answer to these questions....
So Pac is to hip hop what Freddie is to rock, or Cobain is to grunge, or Lennon is to music. Dang, that's an incredible list of names to be up there with, I'mma go listen to him now.
TryZoid rebolutionising music doesnt mean theyre the best. Newer rappers built on that foundation, and imo the best rap today beats the best rap of the 90s. Theres way more complex wordplay and rhyme schemes. More complex flows. In comparison, Pac's rap is very simple.

It’s nice to actually find some people who actually listen to a range of music and don’t just shun each other, the metal community is full of gatekeepers and douches
Yes! I was a teenager in the 90s, and he was my hero, my crush, my inspiration. I also experienced the pain of being a single Black Mother later in life, with no self confidence and keep your head up stayed on rotation, still to this day it brings me to tears. Changes, the first few lines hit you to the heart ❤️ I always imagined that he would’ve been a leader in our community if he would have lived. I can’t say that about any other rapper back then or now.
Hip Hop ain't just about being "lyrical"...its about connecting...and boy did Tupac connect...he belongs to that class of rappers who didn't have to use fancy wordplay to get your attention, but had so much passion they made you pay attention and relate to what they had to say...people like Big Pun, DMX, Big L, Lauryn Hill...etc. Nas, Biggie, Eminem and Jay-Z are phenomenal rappers who know HOW to say stuff...but what sets rappers like 'Pac apart is WHAT they said and how almost anyone could relate to them. Tupac is like the Michael Jackson of Hip Hop: there are many who can do it "better",...but there can only be ONE in a generation!
Yeah, as a middle class white English guy I like Tupac because I can really relate to what he's saying..... I like Tupac because his songs are a lot more musical than any other rapper.
Big Pun and Big L are NOT conscious rappers, Big L was the king of ego-tripping, have you even heard one of his tracks before? Big Pun was all about displaying his lyricism, exactly what you criticised other rappers for doing and praised Pun for not doing..
Joeywitdahoodie I would say X is above your top 5 as well. X, Tupac and Biggie are the 3 legends of hip hop. X representing the new generation. He ticks all the criteria that was explained in this video and did it all in about 2-3 years before 20 years old. He was talented af and one of the most versatile rappers of all time. You can’t say he isn’t a legend no matter how much you “hate” him for whatever reason.
They would have to ascend to a whole other level… to even begin to comprehend.. Pac. I wish them luck. They will need it to understand him one day when they learn life…. Walk a mile in his shoes… they would crumble…

Their will never ever ever again be another PAC. 2-Pac brought an insane raw energy to anything he did. Because he was too Real and Big for the industry. Rap lost more than a great rapper in 2-pac and even Hollywood lost a damn good actor as well. But rap died in the golden era of rap when PAC died. But 2-pac did go out at least on top of his career. And the only question left was as great as he was how much greater would he have been
He wouldn't have been as great today unless he raps abt bitches drugs money weed and had a catchy hook and dope ass beat Eminem, Jay z, lil Wayne none of them even as popular as they was back n the day which is a shame no matter how great pac is or anybody is today's hip hop is a joke only talentless rappers make it big pac was big back then n even bigger now that he dead but if he was alive in today's rap is popular will go down a lot especially if he made the music he made then now cuz ppl not into that simple fact
@@JayAG313 One producer said that Tupac pushed the industry forward with his writing process. Snoop said if Tupac and Biggie were still alive that there would have been a lot of rappers that wouldn't have had a chance to make it. pac lived a very fast life & that’s why pac wanted to do SO much in such short time. it’s like he knew he didn’t have enough time. even if he didn’t know he didn’t want to waste time in bs. he accomplished SO much in a very VERY short time. no one can EVER touch pacs caliber or his level of EVERYTHING. pac on his OWN level & WILL ALWAYS be the GOAT (FACT)
so?my comment is correct.he didnt mention me against the world eventhough it was the number 1 album in the country for 4 weeks while Pac was in prison. it also won best rap album, and some consider it Pacs best album. so it was strange not to mention it,considering he mentioned Pacs other albums. so who cares if he's a veteran hip hop artist,it doesnt change the fact my first comment is correct.
Pac is by far the greatest rapper to touch a mic and one of the greatest artist in general. Up there with Michael Jackson. You go to any country on this planet and I guarantee they have heard the name Tupac. He's Black Jesus.
A big reason why Tupac was as successful as he was, was because of his incredible looks. He was so good looking it was almost unreal (like a Disney movie character’s looks). Now just add his incredible talent, charisma, and passion to his borderline perfect looks...then you’ll have all the ingredients that you need for a legend.
NOPE,respect to him though but you blinded and obssesed with Pac,there is a lot of rappers that are super great, but a few could beat him and those rappers then were Kool Moe Dee,Rakim and Ice Cube, but now you got Eminem too that is a lot better than Pac but noboy fucking accepts it
@@MasterLaith47 I'm letting people have their opinions but as far as the truth is concerned that is not it,Pac is a poet and an actor, the rest are rappers.
2Pac meant more to the culture than anyone else. Even though he wasn't in the lyricist conversation, his raps resonated with people and his work ethic was second to none. By the way, I'm 22 years old and was born in 94 so I am talking from my research. Feel free to correct me.
i keep schooling you about Pac but you are so blinded by hate and ignorance.and if you hate Pac so much, why are you always watching Pac videos on youtube and leaving comments?youre a weirdo.
Steph Curry The G.O.A.T Pac did more for the culture than any of your favorite rappers now. He did more than Kendrick, Cole, Logic, Joey and Earl. He made songs dedicated to certain isssues before most rappers even touched them. And he wasn't afraid to speak on politics and problematic issues. One of the only rappers now that speaks about these important topics is Kendrick, but even he doesn't go in to depth and isn't as fearless as Tupac.
I'm not even really a Hip Hop fan but after listening to a few (or rather a lot since he's so amazing) songs and interviews, I think Tupac is unmatched in terms of his charisma, intelligence, passion, honesty, loyalty and pure talent. He was always true to himself and he loved his people and would have done anything for them. I don't know if he's the best rapper but he's a better human being. He had the potential to lead and change the world. No one compares to Tupac in that sense, he was one of a kind. I really wonder what else he would have achieved if he were still alive. Unfortunately, we'll never know.
If super smart Obama had no effect as President then Pac would have been a waste of human intelligence. Pac was a god. He wasn't here to lead and ya'll know that. His Job was to teach, reveal and expose..........Mission accomplished.
pussy destroyer haha great name, yeah i think every one has his own opinion. I realy dont like kendrick lamar's rap and his voice, best rapper for me after 2pac is eminem and nas still for those to cant even come close to legendery makaveli!!
Tupac had something magnetic about him... His mother, Afeni was a brilliant woman... She defended herself and others in court during her black panthers movement days and won... Pac was one of a kind that's why we hold to him today... RIP Tupac... 🙏
You forgot about Me Against The World which beat Bruce Springsteen and was number one WHILE HE WAS IN JAIL. That was unheard of and is still unheard of today. It's as if all the trouble that kept following him made him even more famous. Thats the irony. The cops and media tried shutting him down and tried making him look like the bad guy but all that controversy just made him EVEN more famous.
Danya Valentin Facts how can you forget about me against the world 🤦🏽♂️ that album right there set it off for Pac that made him really blow up one of my favorite Albums of all time.

The world will never forget the name Tupac Shakur. No matter who or what comes out of the rap industry for the next one hundred years. He will always be remembered as a legend, and a inspiration to so many.
nice video. tupac was a very intelligent and good hearted man of course we all respect and love his songs and movies but what made 2pac 2pac was his statments and opinions, if you lissen to 2pac interviews you will see that he is no fake like the most hip hop artist you will see. i hope there is a paralel universe where tupac is the president of usa..
2 Pac was very controversial, had a big mouth and sparked beef left and right. Your image of 2 Pac is not reality. He was responsible for the whole West vs East beef, no one but 2 Pac and death row kept it going and 2 Pac started it. I love 2 pacs music and i have a lot of respect for the man.. But he was not your good hearted revolutionary, no one pissed off as many people as 2 pac did. And like in Biggies case, for absolutely no reason.. Biggie never even responded, not one time.
whatwhat3432523 The only reason he started the whole east coast vs wrest coast beef was cause he got paranoid and felt like he got betrayed because he was born on new york and got shot in the same city, and felt like he got set up by biggie cause biggie and.him were homies. that's why he started the whole thing on that, and Biggie didn't respond cause he knew if they responded somebody would get hit, puffy said if they responded somebody would get killed that's why biggie didn't and that a why Diddy didn't let him either. Learn your fuckin facts
Pac was truly going against all odds. He was a child of the Panthers, fought for his people, shot at white people beating on a black man. Come on. Tupac is just the realest.

He can teach you a concise history lesson on black power suppression in one song like "Tears of a Clown."

Agreed. "Me Against" was the best album.

He made 2 of the greatest diss tracks of all-time- "Hit Em Up" and "Against All Odds".

props and respect to Murs for filling in some really big shoes that Justin Hunter left behind. I've been watching the breakdown videos for a little over a year now and what always drew me to come back and watch was how informative the videos were for people such as myself who are trying to get a better understanding of hip hop not just as an art form but as a culture and medium to educate.

@@superunknown2812 That's cool, always liked rap too since i was young, but got more into it the past 5 years or so. Yeah the 90's was the best time for hip hop, so much originality. And i'm picky with metal haha.
Final Touch perferct!!!!! It cant be said any better!!!
Yeah, as a middle class white English guy I like Tupac because I can really relate to what he's saying..... I like Tupac because his songs are a lot more musical than any other rapper.
J Day If we go by that logic then Em is more relatable because he has more
Big Pun and Big L are NOT conscious rappers, Big L was the king of ego-tripping, have you even heard one of his tracks before? Big Pun was all about displaying his lyricism, exactly what you criticised other rappers for doing and praised Pun for not doing..
2Pac and some other lyrical rappers write about hood lifestyle and yet have some lyrics I can relate to

And the only question left was as great as he was how much greater would he have been
@Trey Mullis No it didn't it only died in the Mainstream.
Just wait till I have my son

You do know "this dude" is a veteran hip hop artist right? Murs has been out since the mid 1990's.
And? does that make the comment less true?
so?my comment is correct.he didnt mention me against the world eventhough it was the number 1 album in the country for 4 weeks while Pac was in prison.

Pac will always be the greatest
The world will never forget the name Tupac Shakur. No matter who or what comes out of the rap industry for the next one hundred years. He will always be remembered as a legend, and a inspiration to so many.
Word up! This is the best breakdown to date.
Why do people forget about the album "Thug Life"?
Thug Life is his 3rd best album IMO. I still listen to it.
Possers, everywhere
And Me Against The World??
Robert Rucker because it wasn’t a solo album, but I love it anyway
Thug Life Vol 1 is not a Pac album. It's a group album.

Okay Murs!! Justin forever my dude, but Murs is dope. Also love the ode to Pac by rockin' the Red Wings jersey bruh! #Classic
nice video. tupac was a very intelligent and good hearted man of course we all respect and love his songs and movies but what made 2pac 2pac was his statments and opinions, if you lissen to 2pac interviews you will see that he is no fake like the most hip hop artist you will see. i hope there is a paralel universe where tupac is the president of usa..
There is, I bet its nice there
President Trumpac
2 Pac was very controversial, had a big mouth and sparked beef left and right. Your image of 2 Pac is not reality. He was responsible for the whole West vs East beef, no one but 2 Pac and death row kept it going and 2 Pac started it. I love 2 pacs music and i have a lot of respect for the man.. But he was not your good hearted revolutionary, no one pissed off as many people as 2 pac did. And like in Biggies case, for absolutely no reason.. Biggie never even responded, not one time.
+whatwhat3432523 stfu
whatwhat3432523 The only reason he started the whole east coast vs wrest coast beef was cause he got paranoid and felt like he got betrayed because he was born on new york and got shot in the same city, and felt like he got set up by biggie cause biggie and.him were homies. that's why he started the whole thing on that, and Biggie didn't respond cause he knew if they responded somebody would get hit, puffy said if they responded somebody would get killed that's why biggie didn't and that a why Diddy didn't let him either. Learn your fuckin facts
Pac was truly going against all odds. He was a child of the Panthers, fought for his people, shot at white people beating on a black man. Come on. Tupac is just the realest.
So are we just gonna skip over "Me against the world"?
Drew fr bro i was mad ass faq thats his best album !
notmyproblem boi SAME, LIKE WTF
The Mamba Murs dont know shit this what gave pac momentm when he was in jail . Me against the world has no filler , very conscious songs, lots of samples and it still has bangers like heavy in the game .
Forreal bro Me Against the World is my favorite album by him. Even he said that's his favorite work of art that he's made.
Drew same why the hell did he skip that damn album wtf!
