Go read a translation then- I know it's not the exact same thing as understanding the song on the spot, but just cause it's in a language you don't speak, it doesn't mean it's bad.

Parents will judge you for being interested in music from another culture that costs less than pretty much any other (good) alternative. Yet they will not judge you for wanting to perform (family friendly word) activities with people of the same gender as you.

It is never nice to be ridiculed for your interests, but I feel like it is worse with Vocaloid because first of all, it's relatively unknown in the west, so chances are that you don't know anyone else offline who also likes Vocaloid. Second of all, I feel like a lot of people become Vocaloid fans because they go through hard times and relate to certain songs. One thing people overlook that makes vocaloid wonderful is that all of the songs are made by ordinary people like you and me, and some people are so lucky that they get to see their song performed on a stage for tons of concerts around the world. That must be an amazing feeling. Also, since Miku isn't real, she will never get into celebrity drama and can't be victimized by corporations or deceptive people.
But she is technically owned by Crypton future media and thus she could do their bidding whenever they command her to do it.

i think many people (especially older people) need to give japanese content more credit, and that includes vocaloid. your points were very true. many super talented people work behind the scenes to give these loveable characters life and make millions of fans happy, and i think that's a beautiful thing. and honestly some of those people's points, such as "When you go to a concert, nothing's there" or "I don't understand how you can become so attached to a fictional character", were really hypocritical. you go to a movie theater, pay money just like us to go, and nothing's really there. you also get attached to fictional characters, such as bambi, like you mentioned. i really don't understand what they're trying to say lol

It is never nice to be ridiculed for your interests, but I feel like it is worse with Vocaloid because first of all, it's relatively unknown in the west, so chances are that you don't know anyone else offline who also likes Vocaloid. Second of all, I feel like a lot of people become Vocaloid fans because they go through hard times and relate to certain songs. Imagine showing your family Rolling Girl, Goodbye Declaration, My R, Lost one's weeping, etc. because you really relate to it and it comforts you to know that others go through the same things as you and your family just deadass mock you.
