Not done watching but noticed so far that no one has thanked their fans.
Holy shit! I never saw this until just now. I can't believe they're acting that way publically - just like little children!
Pat Yes so sad. That's what happens also when the devil's piss-alcohol is involved.
Pat Ferris Franke is a big baby!
They always had the reputation for being petulant unlikable New Yorkers. True story.
Babies with their dummie out of the pram.
Also, Mike Chapman worked tirelessly on 'Heart of Glass'! He deserves credit!
Clem Burke is a super drummer!!
You sue the founders of the band and you expect them to play with you?! c'mon!
Even if they couldn't play , it was still nice to see Frank and Nigel
In this whole thing, Gary Valentine should be called Mr. Class Act!
He's a nice guy, was important early on, and he had the sense to get out on a high, and make a successful career as a writer
Mr. Valentine acted like a gentleman… I have never seen this footage before . I cannot believe the behavior of Infante & Harrison . Would have been cool to see the whole original line up play .. yes . But , hey you sue the founding members for the rights to Blondie .. that is going to cause some bad blood .
There is some litigation history and bad blood there. Debbie handled it alright in the circumstances.
These pair who joined the band in 1977 tried to sue Debbie and Chris after the band broke up in the 1980's. They sued for the Blondie name (which was ridiculous) Debbie and Chris had the name from 1975. This was when all the funds in the Blondie pot had dried up so Chrysalis the record company said. At the same time Chris was in hospital for months fighting a life threatening disease. These two were hired as session musicians for Blondies third album Parallel Lines in 1977. They showed some good qualities and Debbie and the others decided they would be good for the band and they were. Nigel and Debbie wrote One Way Or Another and Union City Blues and was a good guitar player. Frank was a good guitar played who come up with some classic riffs and wrote a song on Parallel Lines etc. They should of sued the record company for render owed. Debbie said they were all broke at the time. This feud at RARHOF was 20 years later.
Despite the awkwardness a well deserved award.
almost all of their hits were written by debbie harry. some she wrote by herself, some with stein, some with destri, but almost all of the big ones have her name in the credits. she is the one constant of the band. she wasn't just some dumb, well "blonde"!
One way or another was written with Nigel
Debbie Harry handled this very well.
A sweet yet sad moment...
I don't think Frank expected to be allowed to play. He sounded mocking when he was "pleading"
he disrespected himself....dont let them see you crawl....take the high road...say something exceptional
mike caldwell Well Junkies are already crawling
He wasnt supposed to be onstage he came up from the audience dragging Nigel
Who Im surprised did it
@@mikecaldwell4442 yes, he could of just said he felt honoured to have been a part of the group and wish them luck
None of us on the outside can ever know what happened on the inside but all I know is that all of those musicians did incredibly great work and left us with music to last us through eternity.
Debbie seemed stuck up with frank but I realize she knows people come to see her they got famous because of her she probably even thought here and there her man Chris was replaceable
They sued for what they were owed. She's salty about it.
@@sixstring1965 But Harrison and Infante lost that lawsuit.
@@sixstring1965 Give me a break. They're not interested in the band anymore, when they hear it's regrouping--which they had absolutely nothing to do with--they suddenly care? So they sue even though they didn't join the band until after the first album? It's a total joke. Chris doesn't even tour with them anymore because of his condition, but he's still a member of the band, both creatively and as the soul. They're just money-hungry.
It was the Nigel and Frank era of the band that probably got Blondie inducted, so it's normal for those two guys to want to play on that night. It was _their_ work that was being recognised, not their replacements.
when shit gets awkward and real is when you know its a real fucking rock band
When Heart was inducted they did it the classy way. They played one song with the original band, one song just Ann and Nancy, and one song with the current band. I don't know that everyone was happy with that, but they all got their due and all were classy about it.
Sometimes you just gotta say "no".
@@CindyBargyes. Um, I mean no.
Hearts old band didnt sue them for $1M (unsuccessfully)
@@pvtjoker468 That's really pretty irrelevant. There was still a ton of bad blood and Ann and Nancy resented them being inducted because in the girls' view they didn't do the work over the decades keeping the name alive. Whether any of us agree with that or not, you have to give them credit for allowing them to play when they could have been nasty about it like we see with Blondie. IMO the people who went through all the early pain before they got famous should be able to play at the HOF because that is the hard part. Joining the band later after their legacy is already made is by far the easiest part.
@@buckysnodgrass9252 You know nothing about this band. LOL. Blondie has had 11 muscicians rotate through the band. The three cry babies on stage Gary Valentine 75-77; Nigel Harrison 77-82 and Frank Infante 77-82. weren't original members. Like Debbie said. "My bands on stage."
This was not the time and place for this request. All else aside, you need a rehearsal.
Clem Burke has not aged one bit.
Laura Miller Hes magical!
Clemsky!
This was incredibly ironic considering the stories I've read about a manager back in the day trying to get Debbie to fire the whole band and she refused
Until these two guys stabbed her in the back in return. I wouldn't want to work with them again after that
mrJimCharles No that was Crazy Phill Spector who tried that lol
michaelleacy untrue
@@DDios-ih9de no, their manager did the same thing. Watch the documentary 'one way or another' that's about the band, and they all talk about what a tyrant their manager was.
It was Peter Leeds. Debbie tells in Making Tracks that when they were touring abroad he would tell her to ditch the band and talked to everyone separately to try to make the band turn against each other.
5:54 - "It's nice to see everyone out of the courtroom."
**LOL**
+posting id Funny part is, they'll probably ALL be back in one, someday. lol
From the guy who forced them there in the first place, it's pretty ironic in the Morrissette sense.
supertoyg lol I didn't force no one no where. lol
Yeah, I meant it's ironic *Nigel Harrison* is the one saying "nice to see everyone out of court" when he's the one (with Frank Infante) who actually sued the others...
supertoyg Oh. OK. lol Yea I was trying to figure out what you was referring too. Thanks for clearing that up, cos I thought I was losing my mind or something. lol And Happy Holidays to you & yours!!!
I don't know why everyone is criticizing Debbie. Frank can't just expect to play, when the new line up is already up there waiting. Plus, Debbie was actually polite about it.
Metallica played with both Jason and Robert.
@@Fireglo Good for them lol three are different people in different situations
Frank sued her. Of course she wouldn't let him!
You said it 100% right. No argument from me.
And why was she sued? 🙄
You can't sue Blondie twice and then ask to play with them afterwards.
No way Jack. Ain't happening.
It was just embarrassing and desperate - shame
They were treated like arsrholes . It was a hall of fame night , they should have been allowed to play
@@Jimmy_Cooperyou can tell Debbie and Chris had a diva duo thing going on I like them but just saying
@@markcouperthwaite3500desperate lol frank was really important to the band he also had amazing punk style
Thanks, Debbie Harry, for acknowledging Tish and Snooky, two female punk singers who contributed so very much
Debbie can give the impression of being cold and rude sometimes, but that's just a misunderstanding, cause the more I watch her, the more I realize that she's actually a sweetheart! I should have known that if Joan Jett has loved her for decades, she has to be great! Love ya, Debbie! God bless you!
I was lucky enough to meet her in 1990 after a Brixton Academy show and she made loads of time for her fans to meet her and chat-made a big impression on me of what a sound person she is.
Oh please Debbie can we please play
Big Blondie fan for thirty-eight years. I can see both sides of the issue. Frank and Nigel played in the group during their biggest success. They are part of the group history. But when Chris and Debbie -- who formed the group in the first place -- were sued by Frank and Nigel -- well, I don't blame Chris and Debbie for not wanting them to play. Sadly, it was all about money, Frank and Nigel forced the issue at the ceremony, and Debbie and Chris were within their rights to not want to perform with them.
Didn’t they sue them when Stein was basically fighting for his life ???
Thanks for that background. I was wondering why that guy Frank was being a classless dick in trying to "force" his way onto the stage, w/ cheap shots. Sounds like he burned his bridge w/ Harry & they still have hard feelings between them all. He makes a point being they were "Blondie" but, as they say, you don't piss into the wind.
@@southie3177 same thing happened with CCR. John Forgety refused to play with the rest of the band. Lawsuits did them in.
@@southie3177 all is fair in love and war .
Wow, that got kinda weird. Great band and deserving of the recognition non the less.
Badass band with badass troubles. They all deserve recognition for making the music of my youth.
I promised I'd be a good boy tonight my mom is in the audience 😅
I would have rather seen the group playing that was on the Parallel Lines cover, with Frank, Nigel, Jimmy, Clem, Chris and Debbie all together. I'm a fan of every member of this band.
Andy W I miss The Original line up with Gary Valentine
Andy W that's true. I would've liked to see original band members play. Not session guys sitting in for them.

@Andy W The thing is, you're not the one who has to work with those guys. For all you know, they could be a pair of passive-aggressive assholes. Judging by the way they carried on here, that certainly seems likely. And, if I'm not mistaken, they sued Debbie and Chris.
I understand why they are pissed but it was so childish to do that on stage. Let it go
Yeah, I totally agree; I can definitely understand how Frank and Nigel would've felt a bit ostracized at that point, but there is a time and a place to address such grievances...
@John Tuya True but the fact is that it was huge when she got back with Chris Stein, Clem Burke and Jimmy Destri. Most Blondie fans would know who they are too now, but yes, Debbie Harry was and is the voice and face of Blondie, no question.
@@MusicRunner82 they weren't even original members anyway, Debbie Chris, Gary, Clem and Jimmy were. They came in later.

Geez. Frankie and Nigel truly made asses of themselves.. Wasn't necessary.. Be happy you got inducted, you got your award and recognition. Be grateful and and let things be. Move on, dudes..!
Those five years are why Blondie is in the Hall of Fame.
You are very correct. After those 5 years they were not great or even very good nigel and Frank rule all the way
Hey, ' Maria ' be GREAT SONG !!
They should have cleared up all the grievances before going to the Hall of Fame and not have aired their dirty laundry in public like that.

+Robert Hickson On the other hand, she could have just let them play. We're talking about 5 minutes. She came off as kind of a bitch, and he came off as a whining baby.
+70sgirl1961 actually the disgruntled former band members knew they were not playing and decided to try and force the issue.
+Scott Fiero Absolutely right, they couldn't have played regardless and they knew they were not going to. And honestly, as much as I love Frank and Nigel and wish they could have played with them, at the same time I can see why Debbie and Chris didn't want them to, considering the whole lawsuit thing when Blondie was getting back together.
I doubt it, Debbie and Chris were still very pissed off at the other Guys. Sure the court proceedings were still going ahead.

Gary Valentine was right about his songs early with the band was integral in getting them a record contract and his song (I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear was the first original Blondie song to make the Top 10 in the UK, helping establish a fanbase in England. He was gracious about not being asked to perform live that night, not like Frank and Nigel.
Wow! I thought Mike Love's speech was an embarrassing moment (at the Beach boys Hall of Fame 1988 induction), but this is even worse. This is a really ugly situation. And quite pathetic...
- Frank and Nigel begging in front of the audience for playing with the same band they have sued years ago.
- The conversation after that 'Judas kiss' between Frank and Debbie: she says 'my band is up there', he replies 'I thought Blondie was being inducted tonight', she names the new members of Blondie and leaves, he says 'Are they being inducted?'.
- Nigel saying "It's nice to see everyone out of the courtroom", when it was him and Frank who sued the band...
- And that last 'Aaaaaah...' is just ridiculous.
Frank and Nigel should have had more elegance and dignity.
Blondie should have let them play one classic song with them.
And of course, they should have talk about all this before the ceremony, and not in front of the audience.
In Debbie's book, Chris is quoted (p327) saying he was assured that those three weren't going to be allowed on the stage, but the organisers didn't stick to what they said. He also points out that other people can't just come up and credibly play songs with a band on the hoof - things have to be rehearsed first.
@@sambda I'm sure Frank and Nigel knew that they weren't going to play live spontaneously, which makes Frank's plea disingenuous. He just wanted to embarrass Debbie, Chris and co. Still, like most here, when I think of Blondie, I think of the classic line up. By that I mean 'Plastic Letters' right through to the early compilation LP 'Best of Blondie'. I get why Frank and Nigel are upset about it, but they only made themselves look bad. It looked desperate.
Frank said your band?! I thought the band was Blondie 😅 he's a funny guy
Frank Infante, Nigel Harrison, and Gary Valentine were all *very* integral parts of the band, both as writers and musicians. For Frank and Nigel, all the way through the bands peak years. They were and still are "Blondie" to me more than Leigh Foxx, Paul Carbonarra, and whats-his-nuts third guy could ever be. That said, Infante and Harrison handled this disgracefully. No class. Awkward. And, I'm sure, killed any chance of ever coming back into the band.
TimmyAndTammyScumbag No T&T those guys suing Blondie ruined their chances of ever playing w/them again.
"not after law suits. you can't do that and the whole motivation was legal not sincere at all. had she said yeah ok they would have afterward said fuck you, im taking you back to court."
I kinda liked what's-his-nuts third guy.
Wow, that ending kind of left me sad for the memory I have of their songs.
I think Nigel & Frank should have behaved with more dignity than that, they may have been wronged by their non-inclusion in Blondie's reformation, but their behaviour proved that the decision may have been right....
It's not about whether they should have been brought back when the band reformed, it's about whether honoring the history of the band, of which they were a huge part, means having a one-off performance of the old line-up. They were angry, they were petulant, and they had a right to be. They're musicians who were told they couldn't play. Their anger was the realest thing I've ever seen at one of these ceremonies.
And fuck, yeah, they, should have gotten to play. Even if the other members of the band never wanted to work with them again after this (and I understand there are good reasons for that), they should have buried the hatchet for one song. Hell, one song with the 70s/80s lineup and one with the new.
@@gregoryeatroff8608 I'm leaning in your direction on this one, but I still think it was kind of a juvenile way for Frank (not so much Nigel) to address the situation. Not that Debbie would've necessarily responded any differently if Frank HAD behaved more professionally though...
Seems like they should be grateful to even be on stage. If they weren’t able to perform it’s a wonder they were t excused from the ceremony.
well said. Frank for sure. He's lucky to have just been there in my opinion. Frank filed a lawsuit against her. What does he expect?
Frankie was like this from the beginning. He never changes.
As far as performing is concerned, why should Debbie, Chris, Jimmy, and Clem be forced to share the stage with former members they don't want there? Paul McCartney wasn't asked to include Denny Lane or Joe English when he was inducted!
Whether Frank and the others should’ve been included to play for them is one matter, it was really juvenile for Frank to react that way towards the end of this. That’s an issue that they should’ve discussed before the ceremony started.
He loved pissing on the carpet
Frank was punk rock in a room full of pop rockers who'd rather sing Atomic
That voice crack at 1:23 made me laugh/cringe so hard. Really set the tone for the rest of the induction...
Frank was right. The members being inducted into the RRHF should have performed
Wow, talk about jealousy. That's the definition right there.
Hey! it was you two guys who chose to leave the band early in the 1980’s, your choice and it was Chris & Deborah who created their band Blondie so don’t bare grudges now that Blondie is such a huge iconic success. 👄
Frank was not asked to come back after he sued them, he didn't leave on his own.. that being said, the tension was too high for him to stay.
Big Tip Drugs!
Frank was chipping dope
Frank had behavioral problems and other things that are the bands biz
They didn't leave, they just weren't asked back when Blondie was reformed. Well I think Nigel was but it didn't work out and the let him go, maybe they thought his bass playing wasn't up to as par as they were used to with Debbie Harry's solo work, in which Leigh Foxx was her bassist and so they kept him hired for Blondie. I could be wrong.
Let's face it. They all contributed, but obviously Deborah Harry is the reason why Blondie became so successful. This night, those band members left out should have lined up a singer and other musicians to play a few Blondie songs any of them wrote. Then Harry and Stein and the others play songs any of them wrote in Blondie. That would have been the smart, classy thing to do.
@@nycinstyle they would've all been better off starting a new thing Debbie was going to overshadow every man, she could've played with other pretty females or something but she knew those guys were the backdrop to her limelight Blondie worked out the best for her y'all stop romanticizing her

"Welcome to Bingo night" wow.
Frank and Nigel were plain down right childish on that night of Blondie’s induction into the rock and roll hall of fame! You could truly see the embarrassment in Debbie’s face but she stood her ground. I do feel that Chris, Clem and Jimmy could have intervened a bit as they were truly attacking Debbie when she said her band was performing and Frank didn’t like that. But in the end it was a beautiful evening and so deserving of them to be inducted in to the hall of fame! Love you Debbie!!
And yet frank still seems the most punk rock Debbie was a playboy bunny trying to prove she was edgy and Chris stein said over and over we were pop...why did they fit in with the punk crowd oh thanks to frank

Wow, talk about the atmosphere changing on this special evening. It was like being at a great party and someone starts a fight and everyone is like... let's leave. Very ackward... Deborah Harry still rocks today in 2023.
Tom petty did it the classy way with one performance featuring stan lynch and Ron Blair then the other with Howie Epstein and Steve Ferrone
That's probably because they weren't suing him...
But none of that was true. Blondie reunited in 1997 WITH original bassist, Gary Valentine. Debbie informed Infante and Harrison they wouldn't be asked to join the reunion. Valentine was out that same year. Nobody that replaced those guys ever lasted 15 years. It was 9 years. As for. 4-5 years in the band...Infante and Harrison were with the band from 78-82. They were with them for every album/tour except their debut album. They performed on Blondie's biggest songs.
Frank and Jerry should accept the fact that they brought suit against the others and failed. There is a price to pay for a gamble that did not pay off. At the time of this performance, their replacements were already long time members of the band and to expect them to step aside while Blondie performs would be outrageous.
Yes, THIS exactly
Jerry? Jerry Harrison? Yeah... fuck that guy and the Talking Heads.
Jerry who? Jerry Hall?? Tom and JERRY? Jerry Can? Confused...
I get Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads , and Nigel Harrison mixed up so I know who you meant. Very similar in looks too.
We love you Debbie Harry! You will always "ROCK THE HOUSE" :)~~
It's nice when all band members are still alive to receive the award. 😍
If they chose to leave the band why complain now.
They didn’t choose to leave the band.
Debbie Harry is the reason Blondie made it so big. There is no doubt about it. The others are very good at what they do as musicians, etc. C'mon. No Debbie no huge success for Blondie as it happened for them in the 1970s and 1980s. Debbie is the star. She made that band soar in popularity.
I once got them sandwiches in New York for lunch when they were rehearsing for Parallel Lines. Would have been nice if they let me get them sandwiches on the night they were inducted, but over the years I've been led to believe I never got them sandwiches.
One thing people may not be aware of is that Frank's first lawsuit against Debbie/Chris goes back to 1981-82, when he felt he was being left out of group decisions. I think part of the settlement from that suit was allowing Frank to appear on the album cover of "The Hunter" and in the "Island of Lost Souls" video. He wasn't on "The Hunter" concert tour, and I don't think he played on the album at all. So the bad blood between Infante and Debbie/Chris goes back to at least the early 80s.
I don't think Harry made it awkward - I believe Nigel and Frankie did. Harry seemed quite happy until ex members imposed themselves, awkwardly.
The band had move on and were well rehearsed for the event. It was a little embarrassing for both parties I feel.
They were Blondie-just as much as Debbie, Chris and Clem

snarlingrabiddog5150 true
Well folks, Frank & Nigel were a huge part of Blondie's mega success. They were part of Blondie during their 'peak period." I'm glad the Hall Of Fame didn't forget them.
Apparently, Frank Infante is a VERY good guitarist.
Heard that a few times, probably true.
unfortunately this industry is filled with lawsuits, unhappy crybabies, greedy record company owners, managers, promoters etc. people who sue for more money, more credits more creative rights, that's just how it is
bruh Frank really ruined the moment
That was a car wreck I couldn't stop looking at:) But, still love Blondie!
The person who has the most right to be angry here is Gary Valentine. He wasn't involved in any of the lawsuits and they went out of their way to get him involved in the 1997 reunion only to quickly exclude him. They could have been more gracious to him even if they were understandably annoyed with the other two over the court case.
Debbie was the x factor in this band. Through ups and downs she pushed through. Just watched the band play at the isle of wright festival. Debbie is 78. Still rocking.
All those people hyperventilating that this was "inappropriate" and "they shouldn't air their dirty laundry in public"... THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL, EVERYONE!!! Not only is it rock n roll, it's rock and roll from the punk/New Wave era. It's all entertainment! That's all it is!

Ugh, folks, Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison were not original members, ok? Original members were Clem Burke, Gary Valentine, Debbie and Chris. It wasn't till Parallel Lines, their third album did Frank and Nigel came on board.

It can be done! Heart was inducted in 2013. Heart let Roger Fisher and another original guitarist, play on stage for "Crazy on You". But every band has different levels of animosity!
And there was no lawsuit! Don't you get that, that makes a difference?
But now the other members keep doing interviews complaining about how they didn't get to play Barracuda and saying even the rehearsal was tense, despite at least Roger saying at the time on social media that the rehearsals went great and everyone was amicable, he even posted a picture of him talking to Nancy while they were playing. I think they hoped it would led to an actual reunion and now feel hurt.
Still, everyone was classy on stage and that's important.
Pretty please Debbie lol
Big thanks to Jimmy for coming up with Maria - if it had not been for Maria and the internet Blondie would be another forgotten punk band - I think Clem was instrumental in Blondie staying relevant thru social media
They would never be forgotten in Australia.
Hello. Ive been a Blondie fan from wayyyy back, but I'm in the dark about this 'Maria' that you speak of. Would you be so kind to explain who or what she is? thank you ahead of time...
@@dartellomega6573 Blondie's last hit. 'Maria' written by Destri/Harry. It's on youtube, studio and live versions.
@@barefootbooks69 thank you
After they all left the stage, someone should've came up & said, "Will you excuse us a minute, as this is a mess. We'll be right back." lol
Jimmy has hinted that he didn't like the direction the band was heading in. He retired from touring and it looks like now he has left or been asked to leave the band.
maybe it didn't come across like i intended. i just looked back i what i wrote, and i did come off as giving sole songwriting credit to harry (on all their hits). what i meant was, she was the co-writer on almost all of the hits. that i stand by. she was co-writer with harrison on "one way or another", co-writer with destri on "atomic".my point was that she was involved in writing almost all of the hits. i do agree, blondie's best period was 77 to 82. no doubt about that.
Well that was awkward...
Yes, hard to watch.
Chris Stein looks like old Mike Myers here.
Bobby McGee 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣thats funny
Bobby Good one. Didn't cum to my tiny mind. Ha!
What an awful thing to say about someone...anyone. He was deathly ill for years and Deb stood by him through it all, making sure he got the doctoring that he needed. He looks amazing, certainly for all the man has been through...still very handsome!
To be fair the guys that were upset were Blondie , I wish they could have been more involved.
Love blonde great lady allways loved hear ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Frank and Nigel were absolutely correct. They were inducted, not the fill ins. If the original band can’t perform, then nobody wants to see it. It was messed up.
I believe that Chapman said that there was some jealousy involved because Stein was jealous of Frank's guitar skills. Frank can play lead and play it well and I don't think that Stein can. Even today with Frank shut out they still have an additional guitarist, which leads me to conclude that it was more than just wanting to have one guitar player.
