so, i’m confused about it. is it a credit card? is there an annual fee? where/how would i go about paying fees? does it have anything to do with credit score?
Since April 2022, I've saved $24.69 by using the Gasbuddy card, free to own and can build up credit supposedly. That gives you an idea of what you can save with it. That's with short distance driving too. Hey truck drivers, if you get compensated for gas, print your receipt but you'll only spend the Gasbuddy price while the original price shows up on receipt. Just a thought
Costco/Sam's Club gas is less expensive bc it's a base product with no additives. In most cases those additive help keep your fuel system clean, burn fuel more efficiently, and keep your engine running cleaner.
That's a myth. Costco and Sams have cheap gas because they're trying to entice you to come buy other things. They're gas is just as high quality. www.costco.com/fuel-promise.html
All Gas comes from the same refinery in any given area. The only difference between amaco or bp is the additive pack that is added before delivery. ALL fuel must have a minimum amount of this additive to reduce carbon build up. Top tier is a marketing tool nothing more. Now some times different stations will have different ethanol amounts in it and that can make a difference in gas mileage. One texaco by me doesn't usually have alcohol in it so you get better mileage as gal for gal alcohol has 25% less BTU's than gasoline.
You didn’t mention the fact that you have to pay $120 a year to be a Costco member. That is if you get the full benefits of cash back. The general membership is about $60 a year. If you don’t mind waiting in line for about 45 minutes to get through the entire town backed up, trying to get gas to save $.30 in this type of shopping may be for you. One more thing to mention there’s not always a Costco nearby, nor a Sam’s Club. I quit Sam’s Club because I don’t believe you should have to pay any money to shop at anybody’s store. It’s not a wholesale club anymore and you don’t really save that much money you just buy more of it at may be a few cents cheaper. Sometimes there’s an additional deal but not most of the time.
You can use the Costco citi visa at any gas station except store brands like Safeway. Costco makes their money on memberships. That being said. I prefer the gas buddy card. Works at even cheaper mom and pop stations. And how many people really pay their credit card balance off every month? So you're paying your interest to save 4%
I'm glad you clarified to select credit not debit at the pump. Sometimes that can make a big difference. This is exactly the reason certain cards aren't great deals because they only reward you for going to certain pumps, while I tend to find the best gas price near me and just go there. Most of the time, Get Upside doesn't have a deal with that pump, but I usually make the MO eye back by not paying for more expensive gas to begin with. Enjoyed the video! 👍 I would have been one that needed the gas card as I didn't have a credit card years ago and no one would give me one because I didn't have credit. My now husband helped me get my first Discover card and now the offers don't stop coming in because I'm careful with money and pay off my cards. 😅
One disclaimer: Regarding the Costco Citi Visa, you'll only get 1-2% back on gas at Sam's Club and Walmart, since they're competitors to Costco. Only gas stations not connected to a competing store (like an Exxon, Maverick, Mobile, etc) qualify for the 4% cash back
So one thing, Costco and Sam’s Club requires a $75 hold so unless you are using a credit card you need to make sure your debit card has $75 or more in it in order to get fuel. I know this from personal experience. Btw, I use my GasBuddy, with my reward cards, and my upside and I get some good discounts that way when I can’t use Sam’s Club or Costco. That and I per it with my Lyft and Uber Direct cards to get even more savings. 😀 This is in response to 2:37
Thank you for the video. I dont live near any costco or other stores with gas deals and i dont use credit cards so i will be sticking with my gasbuddy card. Also. Because you obviously have not given the gas buddy card a real shot, you have not experienced the cash back that gasbuddy gives! Gasbuddy has given me $5 off a fill up before just because it recognized that i had eaten at certain restaurants! I dont appreciate your ignorant arrogance but i do like that you tried to be thorough.
One of the reasons these wex cards pay out cash is because they save the gas station money on credit card fees. They then share some of the savings with GasBuddy who in turn share a small portion of the savings with the wex card user. Most gas stations charge 5 to 10 cents per gallon above the advertised price when you use a credit card at the pump. The sign says $3.89 but your actually paying $3.99 for using your credit card. Even though you can select “credit” to use your wex card it isn’t processed as a credit card so you are not charged the extra 10 cent credit fee. When you use your GasBuddy card instead of your credit card at the pump of a gas station that charges credit card fees ( almost all of them where I live) You’re automatically saving 5-10 cents per gallon. So say you get 2 cents off from the GasBuddy card and 13 cents off for activating the app discount. That’s 15 cents off the advertised price, but it’s 20-25 cents off what you’d likely pay using a credit card at full price. Whether or not that is better than any given gas rewards card, I don’t know. But you can add your GasBuddy card to your Upside app and you can easily get 30-40 cents off per gallon on a regular basis. Not too shabby.
Card limit is $100 daily out of your debit checking account. Listen, I love my sams club card but I’m 1 hour from town and I hate CITI, Capital one and Bank of America…most of those have the incentives. I would say pro is gas buddy is not a credit card and this is just like a fleet card (Wex) system and if you live in rural area this is a very good deal. Also, my debit card is not accepted at Loves or Flying J national chains because my local bank is an identity thief cop and shuts down until I call a customer rep. So, gas buddy allows me to go to these national chains when I travel and use my checking account through the credit aspect of gas buddy.
Absolutely! If you don't want to use a credit card, GasBuddy is a great alternative! I agree that it's nice that it works everywhere. Costco or Sams gas is definitely not always convenient.
Thank you for taking your time to produce and share this informative video. Very interesting! GasBuddy has to be making a profit for all of our gasoline purchases, otherwise they would NOT be promoting their card! Doh. They would not be able to stay in business!
I always used my chervon credit card its the same if i was to used cash at a pump in California if used a credit or debit card they going charge me on gallon of gas.
Not sure how much a Costco membership is, but us it really fair to compare it with a free card? Only 'bad' experience I have with GasBuddy is that they prevent 'abuse'. Once in a while I make a 9 hour trip in one stretch and was unpleasantly surprised by the daily limit of the GasBuddy card. But still was able to complete my trip with the limited fuelstop. With the high gasprices the limit wasn't enough for two 14 gallon refuels, obviously they have raised the limit afterwards as I was able to fill up more than $75 on one day recently. Have a RaceTrac just around the corner that is already one of the cheapest in my area (as I'm not a Costco member I don't look at their prices) but they regularly have the deal alert. Also have the UpSide card, but often with my GasBuddy discount and deal alert the price is already lower than their listed price. I'm not driving enough to go for the paid GasBuddy card with the bigger discount.
When Costco first opened here they were .30 cheaper than any station around. Today they are .01 cheaper than the station you pass on the way in. My truck gets 17 mpg on Costco gas but closer to 20 mpg on BP or Sonoco. The Upside app only works at the highest priced stations around normally. I got it to work one time at a discount BP and it took 3 weeks for the 'cash' to appear. Which isn't cash unless you're taking a percentage off.
Mine kept declining at the lump also decline inside and I activated it and linked it to my routine and account number! Kept saying “bank not on file” but the gas station was on the GasBuddy app and it had an active deal for me the prices were even updated recently and accurately by another user xc
This is by far the dumbest review I've seen. You obviously have no clue on how to maximize your savings. I'm a Costco member and haven't used their gas stations in quite a long time. I'm consistently getting between 20 and 50 cents off gas. Christmas day last year I maximized even more by getting $1.20 off a gallon. One incorrect thing in this video is that you assume you are forced to use the pay with gas buddy card. You only use that when the app forces you to. If you paid with the Costco card and uploaded the receipt you would have gotten 4% + 4% back. Add on the other apps I use and you get even more off per gallon. Does the discount come off immediately by using another card? No, I sits as a credit in the gas buddy app. When the app forces you to use their card, which it will on occasion, you then get the cents off listed on the app plus the built up credit deducted from the purchase. So if you have $40 in credit in the app built up, get 10 cents off a gallon and put $50 in gas in you'd get the amount discounted to $10 ($50-$40=$10). Then you deduct the 10 cents off that. So if you put in 15 gallons you'd get another $1.50 off. So that $50 purchase would only charge your account $8.50.
This doesn't even include any discounts you may get from signing up for a rewards program for that gas station. Some stations have a member discount of 5 cents off or more. So you'd get another 75 cents off the amount so your bank account would only be charged $7.75.
First off ur just mad at urself u wanna do this big review but u did not even put the work in for it. Everyone knows the first rule is to shop around even know. I really only see .05-.10 cents .. money is money so saving is good but dang do i miss those big numbers.. especially since.. gas has gone up and savings went down .. double bladed awful sword haa =\
