Team selection: You're absolutely, positively right about this. What you know is what you should go with. You don't stand a chance of playing your best with a team you hardly know.

We didn't play, but I remember you from the tournament - iPad guy!
I was one of the two Kasrkin players and it was my first tournament as well, and my first real set of games other than introductory ones so I was going in head first. I had hoped for at least one win but unfortunately went 0-4. But my VP steadily improved with each game. Take my sub :p

"iPad Guy" I've been called worse 🤣 Great to see you ran Kasrkin, I played them for a solid while this edition and love their play style. You were braver then me jumping in so early, but as you said you were starting to see the results as the day went on, I have no doubt you will be able to terrorize your current playing group with what your learned! Thanks for the Sub!

100% agree on the laser line, didn't take one to my first tournament and cover lines came up loads, It's almost essential now. First tournament i went to the TO asked everyone to bring deodorant because we're are all 'sweaty nerds'

Given what GW has said in the past about making things "safe for kids" if they buy anything in a GW store, I know why they can't, but there really should be a laser line in the intro boxes. It's that helpful.

I didn't want to be the guy to bring it up.....but yeah basic Hygiene is key 😅

@@KieranRones We need an "eyeball safe" laser, if we could design it we could be moderately wealthy!

As a Kill Team TO, this was a good rundown of what players dipping their first toe into the “sweat” can expect! Maybe you can reach out to a Golden Ticket winner and see if they have any suggestions . . . that is, if you happen to *know* any Golden Ticket winners!

I've done a couple of tournaments, both quite casual affairs! I was quite nervous at the first one but I had a great day, although I learned the hard way to go easy on the coffee! I don't drink it much but smashed four that day and in my jitteriness made some schoolboy errors, particularly late in the day when my brain was tapping out a bit. I did manage to win the sportsmanship trophy though. Also, very important... Stay hydrated!

hahah I totally skipped over nutriton and not ingesting so much caffeine that you can now see into the warp, but it really matters! It ends up being such a long day and to find the balance to stay switched on BUT not too much is a fine line! Congratulations on the sportsmanship trophy, that's the real MVP!

Hydrate and eat! In particular carbohydrates - brain burns through glucose pretty quickly when gaming like this.
I normally follow a healthy diet but a tournament equals a cheat day on simple carbs for me, just like a long distance bike ride.

I definitley skipped over this, but so crucial! It's a long day, gotta keep the brain and body firing

practice on a chess clock. gets you used to the flow of the game in a time constrictive environment, and will give you an idea of how much time you might have spare in a game.

Great tip! I love the idea of them being at tournaments as a standard to help players keep pace!

Any product recommendations for laser lines? Seems the army painter ones are not currently available in Australia.

So I'm playing my first tournament for the year, which is the National FInals, with a new team being played for the first time round 1. This is going to go well I reckon.

How / did you prep for teams you've never played before? There's so many but I've only played against ~6

It's great to watch some bateps that feautre teams you havent seen before (Check out @gfngaming for some great ones) or any videos that do some deep dives. Otherwise by being at the tournament, you are in the best place, playing them live is the best way to learn!
