We never done this before but we bought a trailer and decided to rebuild it. We picked it up at Copart Auction. Its a 2015 Utility Dry Van 53 ft trailer. We are excited about this and i hope you guys are also!

as a box truck/trailer tech it hurts seeing them grind and punch with a hammer the steel and aluminum rivets
use an air chisel to cut the outside off
And the punch to pop the rivets out the skin panels and side post lol

It's done very incorrectly and is unsafe....
It can be done correctly.be sure you take it to a reputable trailer shop.

Previt comrades... nice rebuild I wouldn’t dare to rebuilt a dry van lol. Maybe a low boy or step deck but not a dry van seems to hard lol.

The top rail or bottom rail needs tobe replaced or do a 16 ft long sección and battom rail needs a backing bar to have bought pices together, backing bar need to be at list 3 crossmeber each side
Did you look at the crossmember and the 5th wheel plate. There is a reason it was total for liability reasons. Also certain things has to be done by d.o.t shop .
Yes we did look at it and had someone come out look at it. There was no issue with it. Reason it was totaled because a shop would charge an arm and a leg to fix that

Nice job I do it for a living one thing is the bottom rail needs to be pass the dolly legs also a large section of steel plate to reinforce it at the bottom just some advice
@@benbenz1229 i said the same thing with a reinforcement plate in the back
worked in a semi trailer factory, careful when drilling and other person on opposite side, plenty of people have gotten drilled through their hands/arms etc, ugly injuries damaging tendons etc

Wonderful job gentlemen, been looking for a place to get materials to replace the roof on my 7’ x 14’ cargo trailer. Closest Utility Parts Store is about 2 hours away. What did you pay per foot for your aluminium roof?

I have tips and trick to make this Job way easier...13yrs exp..air hammer chisel and punch skill saw makes it easier and faster....buck rvts on bottom rail is better

Please tell me y’all have a plate on the bottom side of the bottom rail splice? Lot of stress in that area definitely need to put 6-10’ x4” steel
LMAO the splice plate is the least of the worries with the splice being in the couplerb area. That rail section should've been over the dolly legs at minimum and shouldn't EVER section both the top and bottom rail in the same area on the same side. This entire video makes me cringe from the tools used to the thought process safety wise. Sickens me to watch untrained mechanics put this crap on the road let alone a video to teach others how to do it incorrectly on you tube. I certainly hope the next person to do an FHWA/federal inspection on this unit shuts it down before someone gets killed riding beside it.

And have secctions in the same area top rail and bottom rail that is a lot of stress they need to do a bathroom rail sección at list 16ft long and put a backing plate at list 3 cross members holding it

Where did you guys order the frame from? For the top of the trailer ? Having a hard time finding that or sheets metal or aluminum to replace the fiberglass that torn on my trailer

what is the name of the (steel?) studs that the dry van trailer uses? I want to make a box with a pallet like bottom for forklifts to move, in the same way these trailers are made but on a smaller scale. think 8ft tall x 8ft long x 6 or 5ft wide.
What gun you usefor rivets and where you get rivets
It was an air hammer with a tip that has a flat end. Got the rivets from the utility parts store with the rest of the parts.

I’m not sure on that. I’d do some research I’m sure you can find some info on UA-cam.
D - Trucking use a cp714 air hammer. Its specially made to buck rivets. Not sure on what rivets you would need but I would just get some aluminum buck rivets that most truck and trailer supply place would have.

Do you know where I can get white paint to paint the trailer
Call trailer manufacturer and ask for paint code. Then you can go to paint shop and they can make paint based on that code.
I suggest you guys go get some fine Mexican labor somewheres.
