If you didnt know the chest trap works because when it says chest refill in zed time, thats a hologram above a invisible armor stand and instead of being able to break or place blocks your interacting with the entity/armor stand.

when the "unwanted victories" counter comes up, you know there's gonna be more than one.
The reason you can’t break blocks under the chest is because the timer until the chest resets is actually a armor stand with a name tag. What happens is that the armor stand bottom half is in your hitbox making it so you can’t break any blocks or hit anything. The same hing applies to the forge trap in UHC.
whats funny is that this trap is really old but no one really does it at all, it stems from the old uhc Forge Trap. Basically u get them in a 1x2 hole and u put the forge on top of their head and they can't get out. A forge is basically a furnace that autosmelts 10 ore for you. It has the same mechanic as the chest.

I think if you put a pressure plate on the cactus and connect that to a piston that puts the block in place, it will both look less sus and help the trap work better.

This is the real way how you do it:
Break the chest and build a wall around it. Then get kB rod and lure ppl. Hit them into the hole below where the chest is. At last, put a chest on top of it(you may have to open the chest once)

You can just hit them into a 1x1 then place a chest on top of them, once you open the chest it generates the timer nametag
You can place the trapdoor so that you can flick it open to enclose them in so you don't need to place a block
You can use cactus like the enchanting table trap!

the reason that the chests dont alllow u to break is because the timer above the chests is actually just the nametag of an invisible armor stand and entities block u from breaking blocks
you can also simply do a sand trap, bait someone into a hole then dump sand on them, its hilarious. If for some reason you have no clue on how to do this just look at one of my videos it explains it pretty well, its like how to use the cactus kit or something idk

I'm not sure if it would work, but instead of placing a block couldn't you have just closed the trapdoor? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to open it because for some reason Hypixel doesn't use the marker tag (is that because it wasn't around in 1.8 or something?), although I haven't tested it so I can't be sure. I also don't know if this would've actually helped, but I feel like it could maybe have helped a bit

At 12:30 you can here the pure joy in his voice after 6 days
you cant mine blocks under those chests because hypixel uses armor stands (i think) to display the timer (which is at the top of the armor stand) and the bottom of the armor stand is in your face when you are under the chest.
u should make a cactus trap that involves placing a block next to the cactus so it breaks and makes them fall into a trap
