Thanks for the review - I’m looking to get an IGE (the drop in version of this). How well do they sear steaks? I’m wondering if I also need a charcoal grill as the hot plate won’t get super hot and it’s for cooking everything else. Thoughts? Would you get 850 again or 1150/700? Would you go 10mm again? Cheers!
Hi BFCOT. Soz for the delayed response. Stainless is not the best conductor of heat, while the hotplate is certainly hot enough to cook a steak, I prefer to use the grill for steaks and ribs to get a bit of flame on them. The 10mm is overkill, so if I had the time around I would have just gone with the standard 5mm. 850 is big enough for my family of four and for entertaining a few friends as well.
Hi 85ddrummer. It heats up quick - I just tested it, took 90 seconds to go from touch cold to completely melt a tablespoon of butter into liquid form. edit: takes about an hour to cool down though
@85ddrummer That is so weird. Are you running LPG or natural gas? Stainless or Carbon steel? I would definitely call Heatlie customer support and ask them. 25 minutes is way too long
Hi Owen. I can't find my manual to confirm. Is that for the stainless or the mild steel version? Or both? I don't see why it would be a problem for the stainless. I always wipe it down with cooking oil after use. Haven't had any problems over these years.
May I ask what thickness plate you have they do 5, and 10
@Rosco3546 I ordered and paid a hefty premium for 10mm, only to find out they just stick two 5mm plates together to get the thickness.

Do you preheat this and how long for?

my grandpa made these
That is awesome, he should be proud. Any trade secrets worth sharing with us? Where are they made? I'd love to know what steel they use.
Manual doesn’t recommend water to clean
