  • We finally upgraded our yard crane! In this video we are doing a tour and walkaround of our “new to us” Franna MAC 14 Crane! This new crane has a 14 Tonne lifting capacity, which is double what our old yard crane can lift. We will show you all about this awesome Australian built pick and carry crane and what it can do. We share how we got the machine, all the specs, how it works but also all of the things we are going to be doing to it. We also show the crane lifting and moving some heavy machinery. For what we paid we are really happy with this crane and that it will help take our business to the next level!

      That's what I came here to moan about lol.... Your old crane looked like a lowrider that somehow also reminded me of a very large 4 wheeled chopper. All it needed to complete the look was a chopped roof, candy paint and the largest spoked wheels ever made to suit those huge tyres. That way what it lacks in capacity will be made up by style lol.
      You just turned into a soccer mum and bought the minivan of yard cranes.

      I'd get rid of it out of the cabin mate. I actually know a guy who got bitten on the bum by a redback - they're just about the most painful bite around. For Americans, redbacks are a close relative of the black widow. You'd be unlucky to die of a bite, but it can certainly ruin your day and even put you in hospital. And yes, they're extremely common.

    • @jefftheaussie2225
      @jefftheaussie2225 Рік тому +5

      If you put your fingers under something to lift it and feel something soft, squeeze a bit harder because it will be a redback. Better to kill it then than have it bite you during the lift. There will be one under everything. If there is not a redback under something there will be a brown snake. That is why we are so tough in Australia. Jeff

    Hi mate. It should also have a manual extension. Push the boom all the way out. There’s a pin on the end of the boom just behind the head block. It goes all the way through. Remove that. Then there’s a push bar on top of the last section of boom. There should be a short pin on the side of the boom. Put that pin in the push bar and suck the boom in. You’ll have to winch down at the same time. That’ll push the manual section out. Then put the pin back through the boom and remove the pin from the push bar. To retract it remove the pin from the boom and winch up. Also you’ll probably find 2 falls is plenty for most things. Very rarely we ran 3 falls. And if you use the holding brake you get a lot more slew. It just holds the front right brake on. A bloody good buy though. Well done!

People say spending £700 on an office seat is madness, but you cannot beat comfort and quality, particularly if you are sat in it all day. As a Crane Mechanic by Trade. I can see that you have a very versatile machine for what you need to do with it. I work on some very old machines, & there is nothing that cannot be rebuilt providing that you have the parts or know how to build the parts. Let's keep these old machines alive as they did not depend on electrniocs or computers to keep them running, It needed the know how of real men with machines to keep them going. That is what i like about your channel is that you do NOT depend on CNC rather the old school way of measuring things. That is the way that I learned how to ne a machinist years ago & I progressed into a Diesel mechanic building diesel engines then into a Crane Mechanic. I am now a Manitowoc Crane Specialist & my services are needed nationwide. I have never had to look for a job as people come to me to ask if i would work for them. This being with only a High School formal eduation. So there is a need for a trade education & not a degree from a college. More people need to learn a trade & not get a degree that will not help them get a job. Keep up the good work & I will keep on watching your videos. You are doing GREAT!

    Congrats on your new crane, go steady on the starting spray though, it can totally wreck an engine, they are built to work with a certain cylinder pressure and the starting fluid has a higher explosive pressure and can actually bend conrods, better to cure the reason it needs the stuff than to keep using it.

      I second that! Having spent 8 years as a Warranty Engineer for the US operation of Deutz (a German/Global Diesel Engine Manufacturer) I have seen the results of too much Ether spray! The problem is it takes two people to use it "safely". One to crank the engine over while the other sprays. One person doing it loads the intake manifold with Ether and then cranks it over, leaving the first one or two cylinders on the intake stroke to get most of the "spray". I've seen head bolts stretched, head gaskets blown, etc.

      Wait a second! Minnesota is using the “Great White North” name now? That’s Canada’s nickname! Technically, the “GWN” originally referred to the Arctic islands in Canada’s north, but the name gradually came to mean the whole country. We’ll have to build a wall on our southern border to keep our nicknames, polar bears and beavers from spilling over into the United States and being assimilated. Would you Americans be willing to pay for it? Please?
      Until that happens, we can both amuse ourselves by watching Australians fix stuff, under the watchful eye of the safety officer.

    You might want to look at the contents of the fuel tank. I’ve bought several machine that started exactly the same as your crane, but otherwise seemed to run fine. Once I realized there was almost as much water in the tank as fuel. Drain, clean, flush, good fuel, they start without the “start ya bastard”. Glad to see your prospering and glad to see Homeless is still spoiled.

    Congratulations on the new crane purchase Kurtis & Karen. Franna is an amazing Aussie success story. Not sure if you know, but in the 90’s I worked as maintenance fitter at Wallyword (DW) at Coomera. We used to hire Franna’s all the time to lift ride parts, electric motors etc.. Anyway, hope to see you both again soon 👍🍻. Cheers Azza

    Franna are great cranes, They procured work from me a few years ago, at their Brisbane office.
    The crane is worth it just for seat value, and lots of spiders hiding in the cab.
    I think paint it metalic purple, put spats on the rear, some wide black and gold racing stripes, a sports steering wheel, allow rims all round (polished) and don't forget the dice hanging from the mirror along with an 8 ball knob on the gear stick.
    Oh and Hi Troy.

" I'm not going to patch up the cab, I'm going to build a brand new one for it." YES!! The crane is going to end up being as good as new at a very minimum. And the whole process will be videoed in glorious detail and colour. Hey Kurtis, too bad you have a business to run because it is going to get in the way of the restoration. GOOD ON YOU and the whole crew.
