      Hey Evelyn, Thanks for your comment & I’m doing okay thanks. These babies were actually hatched in 2016 & have since been Re-homed coz of the Dept of Wildlife people.......they wanted me to give them to a zoo !! So I gave them to good homes instead so the Dept can’t confiscate them. I now only have Johnie left at home & am still fighting the Dept in court just to keep her !!

    Hi, Ms Lowing, I am 17 and going into college this year and very interested in owning a crocodilian species when I grow older and have more money. I have a few questions about keeping them:
    1. How much would you have to save up before buying them and save in your monthly budget for them (at least one)? After searching online for a while I know they're very expensive but I couldn't find a definitive range of how much I should save up. I am thinking of being an engineer when I grow older but I am still nervous since I want to make sure I can fully pay for anything my crocodilian would need. (I am thinking of a smaller species right now since they don't live as long and I don't want to end up passing on and my animal having to be euthanized :(
    2. I am interested in keeping these animals for my whole life and not really travelling or moving houses once I settle down since I wouldn't want to stress them out, so I was wondering what I can do to make sure of my pet's wellbeing when I pass since I know they live for so long in captivity and my family's average death year is in the '70s which is not too high. I would probably be investing the last of my life savings and whatever I own into taking care of them when I write my will but I just wanted to know what is the general plan that you have in mind or other keepers have in mind when old age catches up.
    If you happen to read this I thank you for your time and am very happy you have read my post.

      Hi Daemon, Thank you for your comment & questions. I'll try to answer your questions as briefly as I can as it's late & past my bedtime. I'm glad to read that you've been doing some research on crocodiles.....even if it's only been for the price of them. Here in Australia, I believe people pay about $450 for a juvenile Freshwater crocodile. I adopted my own crocs from people who couldn't care for them & bred my own crocs too. I'm not sure what crocs cost to buy in other countries & it would also depend on the species. Of course you will need to apply for a license or permit to keep a crocodile too. Crocodiles do need a lot of specialised care too, so make sure you continue to do a lot of research into the care of them........pond size, enclosure size, heating of enclosure & water, providing adequate sunlight & UVB, maintaining optimal temperatures in enclosure etc....... imitating the croc's natural environment. Plan how to maintain good quality water & cleanliness of the enclosure. If you do study engineering, this will no doubt help you to set up your heating & filtering of water etc. Once everything is set up properly (which can cost a lot) the cost of maintaining everything can be made cost effective.
      As for the croc's future when you do pass, well that's something you certainly have to think about too. My son knows my croc well & how to care for crocs too so he is my first option when I pass. Otherwise, look into the zoos & wildlife sanctuaries etc who keep crocs would perhaps be a good option.
      Well, i must go now so hope that helps a bit........take care & wishing you all the best for the future :)

      @@TheCroclady Hi again Ms. Lowing I really appreciate the answer and thank you for your time once again. I had another question about crocodilians in general: Do they require a lot of time commitment each day as in you have to spend time with them or are they pets you can leave for 8 hours and come back and spend some time with them each day? I know they aren't as social as other animals so I doubt they need social interaction but I do know they'll probably need enough interaction to be tame, so do they require a lot of time to take care of on a daily basis?

      @@daemonzap1481 Hey I'm sorry for delay in my reply. And to answer your question, No I don't believe Crocs require a lot of time to care for them.......and you can leave them for 8 hours and return to spend some time with them. They certainly appear to enjoy being stimulated when you interact with them, but they also appear to like having their "space" too & just be left alone for a while. Hope that answers your question :)

    Do they bite?

    • @daemonzap1481
      @daemonzap1481 3 роки тому

      They wont bite if you respect them and spend a LOT of time building a relationship with them telling them that youre not a good thing to bite. Its obviously more dangerous than a dog since it can kill you but less dangerous than a tiger since its less impulsive. You gotta respect the teeth though

      Hi announmous my life, thank you for your comment & yeah, I still have my oldest freshy, Johnie who I’ve cared for since a hatchling, i.e 25 years & am fighting the govt in court to try & keep her. I miss Jilly terribly still....... I still don’t know the real reason why this govt dept appears to have targeted me after I have held a license for over 40 years & have kept crocs for over 30 years.They did say “you can’t keep crocs as pets”......they don’t believe a croc is capable of bonding to a human !!
