I got into The Fall to late to ever be in step with the views of longtime fans but........ Having listened to a lot of their Peel sessions recently I've noticed on almost every single Bend Sinister song they do (with the exception of their version of Dr. Faustus) during those sessions is a MUCH better version of the song that eventually appears on the album. Go and listen to them now: ROD, US 80's/90's etc all sound better on the Peel sessions to my mind. Could contribute to why the album was poorly received at the time
Suffuses me with goosebumps. He possed a genius for tone tonation and notation. He married Gothic literature and occult philosophy to a sound beautifully.
The Fall - R.O.D. (video) where do you get the footage? no denigrating comment to be had from me, at least. it's a cool song. more a case of what's the merry go round debacle all about? personally, i could have sat watching the train track go by for the few minutes the song took to play out... i was expecting you to begin a debate re: the nature of the r.o.d and it's derivatives....
This track is so damn cool. the whispered "maybe you haven't got everything that you wanted after all" at the beginning, the hurried drum beat, the rhythmic guitar chucks. The demented, gothic surf lead. the way Mark screams "hide, dive, hide". the drawn out "realm of.... dusk"
My brother bought this record in the sale in a record shop in Queen street, Auckland New Zealand sometime in late 87 or early 88. I was around 13 at the time, first if ever heard of the fall, liked us 80s and some others. Just to add, I've made a couple fall videos on here, type in.....The Fall Creep official video?
they played this on radio 6 music today! was my intro to the fall when i accidentally won a copy of the album from bbc sheffiield for knowing who wrote bend sinister. loved them since.
belter indeed. the great craig scanlon once said the riffs therein are all his and brix somehow took credit over her part, i love them both and believe him.
The Fall - R.O.D. (video) 1824pm 19.12.21 sound smore brix orientated but then... i have no idea who racked up these riffs.... bournemouth runner is also a decent track as is dktr faustus. worth listening to and going to see... wasn't it? i said wasn't it!!!? nodding off as they all waffle on. priceless. dktr faustus... the play... erm...
The Fall - R.O.D. (video) 1827pm 19.12.21 a decent theme to read up on... and another topic of debate worthy of study. as for footage where on earth...? anyhow it's a song about trynna divest yerself of idiots from norden in rochdale... "boot out the armies.." as for the song - a decent song....
I've never understood why so many people seem to dislike this album. I think it's great.
you're keeping the wrong company, everyone thinks its one of their best
It's true most of my friends are assholes.
American Slander, it's not my most favorite, but it's up there. Iove it!

Mark E Smith 1957 - 2018
This is a video I made a while back in tribute to the great man. The song opens my favourite Fall album 'Bend Sinister'. RIP
You are appreciated.

I think this is a really lovely video for this song. It captures the vibe, somehow.

Beautiful melange of Go Go, Duane Eddie, with Eastern modes.
Yes ! , good video too !
I heard that they recorded some of the songs for this album in Bury, in a recording studio that doesnt exist anymore
Where did you hear that? By the way, your video for the song No Bulb is great.
@@embraceallrealms Thankyou ! On the back of the Bend Sinister album it says ' Square one' Bury, which was Square one studios in Bury Town centre
Yep, variously at Square One (Bury), Yellow 2 (Stockport) and Abbey Road, John Leckie producing - for the last time.
