As a sixty-seven year old I can promise you that this song takes on more meaning as you get older.
Yeah... Sooner or later that realization hits everybody that they have far fewer days left in front of them than they have behind them.
Amen, brother...amen.
I’m 75 and time is getting shorter. I tear up when I hear this song.
Hi Five from 1955 👍
Very true
The long intro is essential, it's a concept album to be listened to as an album! This I not a catchy pop song you put on when you're working out! It's supposed to be experienced as an album, it's about life.
Yup, literally 'the moments that make up a dull day'
In the last 50 years I've heard this on vinyl, 8-track, cassette and CD.
The best, of course, was on compact disc because there were no interruptions. No turning the album over, changing track on 8-track or flipping the cassette over.
Ironic? Sat there analysing a song about perceptions of the passing of time and how we waste it, but let's skip the intro. That's a waste of. . . .
Yeah, even if it was "popular", it's REAL art, you must learn to dig into this. It's not a throw away consumable... Pink Floyd is for the brain more than for the body.
As usual I was furious on the pause: it interrupts the mood, it stops the flight, you never continue and experience the same way than you would have is not paused...
@@JosephHuntelvisnspiders That is the point! Good on you for mentioning that.
I watch this reaction, and I feel that their self absorption and obvious materialism get's in the way of any true comprehension or appreciation of what they're hearing. Just my opinion.
K.O
And the vacuous stare got to me.
They lost me at "Jordan Peterson"
unfortunately yes, completely missed the point of the song. wish they’d taken the time to hear it all through without the need to analyze every lyric at every moment. and the jordan peterson reference was a total giveaway
The irony of wasting time watching someone analyze lyrics about wasting time...
😂 I know. This reaction is like watching paint dry, holy shit. 😂
😂😂
He ruined it for her, hearing the first time.
I just thought about it. I spends an hour watching people react to TIME. 😂😂
These two were hard to watch
And listen to 😮
Good things she pretty. Deep as a puddle.
He must also be a natural blond.
I once read a comment from a father who asked his young daughter why she would leave the room every time he played music from Pink Floyd. She replied "because the music gets inside of me". Perhaps the most profound observation of Pink Floyd ever uttered.
The intro is essential, like birth. The "ding dongs and the noises" are literally the moments that make up a dull day ;)
you cannot hear a pink floyd song without the build up, it loses the PINK FLOYD SOUND itself!
How to suck all the pleasure out of listening to music.
A compelling argument to stop trying to be a reactor…
Try on channels will get you $ a lot faster.
Might wanna ease your girl in wiv a bit of One Direction or something of that ilk, Floyd was obviously a bridge too far😂
Next, he should make her listen to "The Waiting Room" from Genesis. Guaranteed she`d have nightmares. Lol.
Pink floyd are so much more than just lyrics, the best band of all time. They don't rush it, it's an experience and each song has meaning
This was my first look at your channel....thanks to the level of cluelessness (especially Jess), it will be my last as well. Good luck.
get a new girlfriend brother
Yes
No, they deserve each other, he's a moron, just like her....
Ah jealously lol😊
@@swfcocs1 yeah I'm jealous of that accent of hers 😂😂😂😂
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek im thinking anyone who calls themselves "cunt " can't really criticize anybody about anything lol
Have you guys ever heard of metaphors!?!?! It's not actually about sunshine and rain😂😂😂😂
What's a meta for?
Lol.
The long intros with Pink Floyd are there to put you in the mood they want you in. as for Home He is at home after work you two are thinking way to far into it. . And its not a funeral. Its just a church bell in the distance and hearing the magic spells that the priest is telling you. Yes its a stab at religion. If you do Great gig in the sky the next song Its about a woman facing death and coming to terms with it.
"I don't know what the song is about"
It's about 'time' 😉🙂
pippetipip nodding head like an empty doll
Man, forgive me for being a clown but I think your partner is better suited for Taylor Swift. Jus' Say'n............................
The bells have definitely a function. They are there to wake you up for the message that is coming next.
Also it works perfectly after the song before this!
Agreed. A lot of reactors say Pink Floyd have long intros but I don't see them as "Intros" I see them as "Instructions". For example, if you want to tell someone bad news you'd sit them down first. If you want someone to wake up and listen, an alarm clock is ideal. That's what Pink Floyd do. It's not a gimmick.
You’re definitely not Floydians change course guys you obviously don’t appreciate Pink Floyd 😢 your girlfriend is probably a Rap fanatic 😊
More likely pop
The song IS called "Time" so clocks kinda makes sense.
The other sounds are ticking of time and heartbeats.
It’s shocking the first time tho especially if you have earphones on. It all ties together but i still skip the bells most the time.
That opening intro grows on you in a big way the more you hear it.
Well this album is to listen in a whole. There´s a meaning. This is art. Not a stupid pop song from today.
Yes Pink Floyd is art, but no stupid pop song are not "from today"... And I'd even bet that they exists since human can sing some stupid and "catchy" things.
Damn straight
There was dumb pop songs made when this album came out.
@@carlossaraiva8213 you did not get it at all.
I meant this album is a master piece.
There was ridiculous pop songs all the time. But now it´s really extreme. they suck.
@@mariov1347 the old farts of our times when we were young said the same thing about the music of our time. And now you talk like sn old fart. The simple truth is, both you and me are behind the times. We just need to have the humility to admit it or else we will as big a fools as the clueless old farts of our time.
Sadly it seems the nrw generations keeps repeating the stupidity of our forefathers instead of improving, as we ought to.
You missed the starting gun is a reflection and they don’t really seem to be placing blame. They are just saying you spend your youth screwing around, not taking advantage of the day and staying in and just lulling through life without a care. Then the next thing you know is 10 years have passed and you don’t have all the time in the world like you thought you did.
This album came out 3 days before my 21st birthday and I thought it and the whole album was fantastic!💯🔥 I'm 71 now and it hits me completely differently.😢 I spend a lot of time reflecting on my life and the sadness, the pain, the heartaches, and mistakes stand out more than my successes. I was diagnosed with COPD 15 years ago but still smoke a pack a day plus legal weed. "Shorter of breath, one day closer to death." is the reality I created. Kinda sucks but basically I'm content and happy most of the time.😊 I lived through some incredible decades and saw the whole world change and evolve several times. I had a great run and I look forward to what's next after this life is finished.😁❤️✌️
I'm 66 and know exactly what you mean!
this song i made into my map for life. So glad i lived my life before i was unable to live as i pleased. I am 68 and not displeased with my life. the whole song is the race we face in our life and a possable outcome. Big Fan😂
I’m 75 and it’s hard to believe. Maybe we will all “meet on the ledge” as per Fairport Convention. Another song that turns me emotional.
Y'all redeemed yourselves at the end there.
The beginning irritated Jess? Could have done without it?
Patience is a virtue, kind Jess. Hearing people say a song or movie is slow is usually a sign of immaturity. Haven't learned patience yet. A slow movie may not have explosions or fight scenes, but the movie is not slow if the viewer is tuned in to the story. A good mystery or thriller is engrossing because every line and action and camera shot means something. The viewer has no awareness of time because he is caught up in the plot. Similar to songs.
The beginning of Time definitely is slow, but not boring or irritating. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, and I respect it. But I was taken aback by your comments on Time's beginning. Though a little slow, it is at least cool.
Ain't it? And it sets up the rest of the song. James gets it. No offense intended towards Jess. Excuse me for getting on my soap box. You both said you liked the song. And if you didn't, that's cool, too. But as far as this song goes, virtually no reaction-er that I have watched for this song [ and I have watched many ] had anything negative to say about it. On the contrary, they were all blown away by it.
This is my first time viewing y'all's channel. Pink Floyd songs are like magnets when it comes to choosing which RVC video to watch. You guys are delightful people. A little long-winded in your breakdown, but the opinion of RVC hosts is part of the reason these channels are fun to watch. Especially for us older folk who were teens or younger when these great songs first came out. We enjoy hearing from younger generations just how amazing our music was. And still is.
Jess is in for an enlightening experience as she dives in to the deep ocean of incredible classic rock and other genres of music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Don't leave out the disco and pop from back then, either -- full of very good songs.
New subscriber. Keep on r'actin .
The older you get the more effect the lyrics have on you...
You don't just listen to Pink Floyd... you EXPERIENCE Pink Floyd. This album was in the International Top 100 album charts for YEARS...decades even. It's a piece of ART! From the moment the album begins....it starts with a heartbeat, then it takes you on a journey through life and ends with a heartbeat. You so need to listen to the WHOLE album from beginning to end.
(..'Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain'...is their interpretation of time ....wasted)
Never never estop solo guitar .
My first ex-wife was born in 1973, the same year Dark Side came out. So, she was a bit younger than me, so I introduced her to Pink Floyd. The first time she heard Time she freaked out a bit because she had a "thing" about loud bells. But she wound up loving PF almost as much as I do. To listen to the entire album of Dark Side of the Moon, you need to lay back and listen non-stop beginning to end.
The first part of the song, to me is about youthful lack of regard or appreciation for our time of life on earth. When we are young we have a huge inventory of days to live so we tend to treat them with little regard. When we get older we wish we had those days back again to enjoy but of course, that is impossible.
The Guitar Solo Still Makes Me Cry, and I'm 61,
I'm 67 we get it.
And now you know why there are instructions on bottles of shampoo.
you are not ready for this. With Pink Floyd it's better start with Wish you were here (the song, not the LP). You are beautiful, but you cannot understand without contest. The whole album is like a novel about ... I don't want tell you, if you like something I'm sure you'll discover it by your own with unexpected pleasure!😍
Totally
The alarms and clocks are there to wake you up and it annoys you like your alarm ⏰️ going off for work and it still irritating 40 years later 😂
Con todo respeto, si nada más van a analizar la letra de la canción, les recomiendo hacer críticas sobre libros y revistas.
Wow! Don’t listen to anymore Floyd!
The ending is when he returns to his parents' home. "Breathe" (opening the album) is his birth and his mother's advice to him about his life ahead; the " Breathe Reprise" section completes the circle with the death of his parent(s), and the church service that follows.
Wait… are you EACH wearing ONE earbud? You are each missing half of the music and sound production! Pink Floyd albums are engineered with extreme stereo separation. Some instruments and sounds come from left, and some come from the right. You are missing so much by listening to only one channel! Please do yourselves a favor and wear two complete sets of earbuds. You won’t regret it.
NVM… I saw both cords at the end of the video. Try some other songs from them. Perhaps a live cut from the Pulse concert…
I first heard this in 1973 when I was 14 years old, I’m now 64 years old and it just seems like yesterday! 😢
You're 2 years older than me but ditto. 👍🏼
I don’t mean this as a criticism, because we’ve all been there. I’ve been there. But the female (sorry I don’t know your names) seems to still be in a superficial place. Maybe she hasn’t experienced as much loss as some of us have, or maybe she has and has put up a barrier. Which is a theme on much of Pink Floyd’s music. I believe that we all grow and evolve, so I’m not tying to be critical to character. But I do hope she comes to a place of reflection, of perspective, of our own mortality.
This may be the single worst reaction to this song I have watched, and I have watched many. Methinks the content is a tad above your intellectual capacity dear miss.
The clocks and the long intro are behind the meaning of the song. Time....and what you do with it.
The ending of the song isn't the song time. It is called breath reprise. Time finishes after it says "thought I'd something more to say". However Breath reprise is very short and always gets included in time reactions. It however is a continuation of the first song on the album which is called breath.
I bought the album when it first came out. The song has never been listed by Pink Floyd as Time (Breathe Reprise). Not even on Pulse. Fans gave it that name.
Yeah... It's not. Look at the back of the album, there is no such song that exists.
@@krkhns Still, it's pretty obvious it's a different song, different key, different tempo that is identical to the first song.
Waters even made it obvious by stating "The song is over."
When philosophy is sung!
You need to age to realize to grab that concept!
If you're analyzing song lyrics I wanna see you do Surfin' Bird by The Trashmen.
Christian I love you.
Pans banging and noise in the first minute!! What are you talking about. The intro to this song is one of the all time best.
Home is the only important place after all it is where all you care about is.
I think the strongest line of all is ‘thought I’d something more to say’; at 73 I feel in my forties, know death is a thing, but I’m nowhere near ready…. I have loads more to say, before I go. I’m just learning how life really works…
The outro as you call it is actually the third verse to "Breathe" and is called "Breathe Reprise".
When you have a short attention span long intros can be challenging.
It`s interesting that you said: "the first minute.." Time is unavoidable, unstoppable, ever-present..
Cuando era joven no sabía inglés , pero la música de Pink Floyd era adictiva, sin analizar nada, sólo disfrutaba de la música. I am now almost sixty one , and the music continues to be great , but now I understand the lyrics. I do not hear great music now a days, do with time you will probably like Floyd even more.
Lyrically it would be interesting to pair this song with Talking Heads' Once In a Lifetime, as both address the seeming randomness and sometimes emptiness of life and how if you're not careful you could end up living a life you don't like or understand and wonder where all the time went and how you got there.
And the answer is that you let it happen, drifting along and expecting things to turn out as you'd expected and hoped all by themselves, when this is rarely if ever the case. Depressing songs, of course, but great music nonetheless. Not all music or art has to be happy and cheerful.
Now I am starting to get despondent about the future of humanity...😞🤦♂
Hip-hop and rap and other non-musical beats have destroyed the musical appreciation of this generation.
The lyrics aren’t rocket science.
Having a girlfriend telling me "I could do without the first minute" (never mind the "110%" remark), would've been enough reason for me to end a relationship right there and then 😎
You think floyds intro was long? How u think we feel? Lol. JK
It's nice to see Jodie Foster doing reaction videos.
...specifically Jodie Foster's character Nell.
@@tanobammino2519 😅
OMG you’re so blonde 🤣🤣
real headphones will help
You missed an important point here:
The album starts with "Breathe", and then goes into "Time".
"Time" ends with the line "The song is over, thought I'd something more to say..."
Then "Breathe (Reprise)" comes back with a final verse of the song that started the album, with "Home, home again..."
You are trying to connect two different songs.
I'm 35 this year....I dont know where my life has gone...in 2020 Covid almost took my life, and I've been left in a wheelchair and my whole life has changed. I went from being able to do anything, to nothing. My dreams are gone and my plans have had to change. In between all that my children at now 13, 7, 6 and 4....and every year is flying by....I feel like even at 35 my life is done in terms of my youth and what I have left to offer. We have such a short window to do the things we all plan on, all whilst we con ourselves about needing that house or that car or that job....when in the end we fail to connect with our loved ones and spend a real quality life enjoying people we care about....its so so sad and facing death head on showed me that I had to be better to those around me and love harder because this can be over in a heartbeat.
Covid did a lot of damage to a lot of people. What you have to offer is your love for your children. You are an example to your kids. All they really want is your time. All of the material stuff doesn’t matter. Take care.
Same
The part about "Home again" is technically a different song. This is breathe (reprise), not Time... again this is a concept album and meant to be listened to in its entirety. But yes, the character has died, as amplified by the next song, The Great Gig in the Sky. You should definitely listen to it as well.
The doop doop is a heartbeat
The "lives of quiet desperation" line originates with Henry David Thoreau, who was, ironically, an American poet and philosopher of the 1800's.
This song is part of a story. The whole album is meant to be listened to in ine sitting. When doing Pink Floyd, you should do the whole album. Maybe break it up into 2 or three parts. You'll enjoy it. The top fout to react to are of course Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and finally The Wall, which is a double album. You could also throw Meddle in there.
On Comfortably Numb David Gilmour and Roger Waters trade lead vocals back and forth, on this song David Gilmour and Richard Wright trade lead vocals back and forth. So that may be where you get that back and forth feeling on it.
Clocks,,, SONG CALLED TIME ,,, I used to think the long intro was to long ,then I realised the it's got to do with TIME
David Gilmour is a master guitar player. Doesn't play fast, but plays slow with emotion. It's easy to go fast, but it's hard to go slow and make every note count.
Hello, it's called TIME!
The Intro is part of the entire premise, "Time". To embrace that is to get the whole song.
I was 15 when I first heard this song in 1973. I was dumbfounded by the lyrics - Who thinks like that??? Years later Roger Waters explained that he had an epiphany one day when he realized that he had spent his life up to that point preparing for his life - School etc. Then one day he realized that life had started and the preparation time was done and it caught him off guard.
I can't believe they thought using REAL skinheads was a good idea!!! I mean, it definitely gives it a dash of authenticity, but, you had to know it was gonna go sideways at some point. And of course, IT DID. I know a great deal about this movie, and album. I mean I've only studied it for the last 30+ years, so, while I do know some, I'm like everyone else, and usually pick up on something new, EVERYTIME I listen to it the whole way through. And it's definitely better to ask questions to Floyd fans than Wikipedia. Do you agree? Anyways, does anyone know what "Pink" is doing with his fingers when he is on stage performing "In the Flesh"? Is he just crossing them? Like presenting a knot? He only does it once or twice towards the beginning. What is he doing and what do you think it represents? There's no wrong answer, just wondering what your thoughts on it is.
In 1977 got high and friend puts this album on. Laying there in darkness of basement. The alarms go off and I jumped.
Pink Floyd's great introductions serve to immerse you in their world. You "enter" one of their songs and live it. Pink Floyd are an experience. They build everything around you, pull you in and take you on a journey.
P.S: the "metronome" is played by the bass :)
Pink Floyd will take you to places in your own mind (NOT thiers). It is an experience of you and where you have been ! We all have different things in our life and that is what it is about ! Listen REALLY listen closely! You are both close ! :)
"Tired of lying.. .etc."... It was 73... Even TV was not in every house. No smartphones, no nothing. Young people had PLENTY of time to leisure consciously (because nowadays, "internet" makes us feel that we're occupied, but no, we're wasting our time anyway)... I mean if you wanted to lie in the sunshine four hours, it was "usual"... So usual that you could even be "tired" of doing it for too long... Same as "staying home to watch the rain" , translate in today "staying home to watch tiktok"... And "Tired..." as "Tired of binging netflix".
'She had like a sound system back in the, you know, the '90s. They were, like, popular and she was just blastng it, so yeah . . . ' Not so much now, but that doesn't mean that a good stereo isn't still really enjoyable. You pays yer money and makes yer choices. I made mine a long time ago by your standards; no regets. Cue Edith Piaf: 🎶 Non, je ne regrette rien 🎶
By the way, there is an audiophile company called SoundSmith (in the U. S. of A.!) that makes very high quality phonograph cartridges, preamplifiers, and mini-monitor loudspeakers. "How quaint." -- Montgomery Scott

Lifes shorter than you think.
.
Theres only so many opportunities for you to take.
.
Don't think of your lifespan in years - years are long.
.
Think of your life in months - months go by so quickly.
.
By the age of thirty you've lived 360 months.
.
By the age of forty you've lived 480 months.
.
Somewhere between those two numbers is how many months you've got left.
.
.
Make a chart of 22 X 22 squares.
.
Cross one of each month.
.
I was going to say she's too young. But when I heard this the first I was younger than her. Some people just don't get(feel) Pink Floyd, unfortunately. If she doesn't respond to "Comfortably Numb" I say don't waste Pink Floyd on her.
Pots and Pans?! You didn't hear that all those sounds are all kinds of different clocks ticking and alarm clocks going off? ............
Obviously, the clocks symbolize the subject of the song, Time. The intro is intentionally long because it depicts how slowly Time seems to pass when we are young, in the young years of our lives.
the whole album is conceptual... learn it...and you'll understand, do not try to understand a book by reading a chapter.....
Sorry to say she looked bored and the comments superficial.. 'I like lying in the sun' let's put some pop music on instead.. and I still don't understand why men wear baseball caps backwards.. LOL
"she had a sound system back on the 90's, ya know, when they were popular"......."that's so funny". It was, for more than 30 years when people spent money on serious sound systems because they cared about the quality of their music, before sound bars and ear buds. So funny. His Mom, still listening to Pink Floyd 20 years later. Cool Mom.
With respect young lady, I think you are too immature for Pink Floyd, come back in 30years,then you will get it!!! Not a reaction channel I will be returning to .
Stick to fluffy kittens and knitting.
Just my English humour 😂, I actually think you are lovely, cute, charming and wise for your years. Keep smiling and living your dreams. Good luck to both of you. 🙏🏻
I've always believed that the music is just as important as the lyrics, if not more. Otherwise you should just read poetry. Not that anyone would want to hear someone reciting poetry on their stereo. I guess that's my dig against contemporary and hip hop music today. It's more centered around the lyrics rather than the music. If the music is sub-par, I lose interest. This whole album gives you both. A true masterpiece.
I liked your observation of the clocks coming representing birth. A child community this world and being startled and supprised as it would. I can imagine the shock and awe for a baby. It's first moments in this world must feel like a bunch of bells going off.
To me, this song should be listened to with "The Great Gig In the Sky" which is the next song. Even though you didn't play the two songs back to back, you should listen to "The Great Gig In the Sky."
The guy brought up some interesting philosophical and social thoughts for discussion ("no one told you when to run...") but the girl seemed uninterested and gave a vibe of something like hohum-when-is-this-gonna-end-gotta-go-to-the-parlor thingy. 😅😂
The intro gets you in a timelapse...
The second part explains how ou get older after you been alive. Directly after you can concern about anything esle.
You just hear the sounds gets more complex, just as your developing mind...
Alright Guys, why did you stop listening to the song and just start reading lyrics? We watch you to see your reactions to our favorite MUSIC not LYRICS! What the hell is she doing ?
I know some of the comments are not very complimentary but I think you both get the idea. Most people do waste most of their lives doing very mundane and unproductive things. It's similar in a way to us, liistening and reacting to the greatness produced by others while accomplishing nothing great ourselves. It's profound in that way for sure.
Pretty smart lyrics coming from a band of 20-something year olds. You’ll wake up one day and realize they were talking about you. The “rototom’ solo was telling the story as well. “Lots of time to play”. Only person I’ve ever witnessed not at least appreciate this song. Art for arts sake.
You have to remember Pink Floyd released concept albums, not a collection of singles. To be truly appreciated you should listen to the album, especially Dark Side of the Moon, start to finish.
PS: Next time listen to the whole song instead of trying to critique the lyrics after only the first verse.
The fun part with this song is to listen to it every ten years. The personal meaning of this masterpiece will change with TIME.
All those ding dongs and bells and ringing aren’t inside your vapid empty head all the time??!!!
Gaaaawwshhhh!! “Hold on we need to check lyric genius to decipher some of the most basic, easiest to understand lyrics Ever!”
