I find it funny as someone who's a TMNT fan and have seen the first cartoon series where like 1 in 10 episodes, one of the voice actors is somehow unavailable. Every so often, you'll get a different sounding Donatello, Krang, Shredder, or Raphael. Hell, WB has different actors play the Looney Tunes from time to time, and there's a massive lack of consistency there. Then there's something like The Muppets (including Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock) where you have to get the character's personality down first and the voice sounding the same second. I never liked the "this character sounds slightly different and the illusion is blown for me, and it's the voice actor's fault" childishness.

Not crediting voice actors who are mid-series replacements, especially if controversy is involved, has quite a bit of precedent! I actually know a voice actor who has gone through this (who replaced another actor due to a messy studio situation rather than a scandal). Viewers attach themselves to the characters in these shows and tend to take any changes in a negative way - with how easy it is to find these actors online or even dox them, it's a necessary measure to protect them. Wishing the new VAs here all the best, even with their identities protected it's inevitably going to be hard to see their performances picked apart from all angles considering how big R&M is.

Is there really people out there who are big enough fans of justin to be upset about this? Like do Justin roiland fans actually exist lmao??? Hes one of those voice actors I've never really thought he was so much of an icon, especially to the extent of getting mad
So far from what's been shown they're doing a really good job! The more time they're given with these characters (and without it being just a dubbing job) the more natural it will start to feel. Making them voiced by separate actors is the refresh they need for the reasons you stated, and random background characters that always have the same Roiland voices may finally see some variety. It's always difficult taking over a role that another actor has been tied to for so long and (regardless of their actions) have made iconic because of their work with said characters, but these new actors have definitely got their voices nailed and is a less jarring switch up compared to others I've seen in the past for other shows.
Personally, they seem fine. I think we'll have to wait for the big moments to see how well they can do, and it seems like they won't really get a chance to stretch their acting muscles until they don't have to dub over Roiland's lines anymore. Still, wishing these guys the best and hope the psychos don't harass them too much.
Honestly, with how positively this trailer was received, I think they could have afforded to reveal the voices now. But I understand why they want to give fans a whole episode to judge the performances first, to avoid pointless nitpicking.
The only thing I'll really miss about Roiland's voice is the improvisation. Episodes such as first interdimensional cable are mostly improvised by him and Harmon. Anyway, new VAs did good. Now it intrigues me the script. Que será, será...
Sadly, even if none of the allegations happened and Roiland was completely still on the payroll, from the horror stories behind the scenes it seemingly wouldn't have happened again. Justin Roiland personally stopped caring about Rick & Morty creatively and really only came in to do lines after a certain point, constantly ditching the writers room.
He hasn't really done improv to any real extent since the season 3 premiere when he left his improv workshop memories in the brain of the bug interrogator.

Rick sounds pretty good except for when he is yelling, and Morty very much emulates that more mature voice we have been seeing from him recently. And yeah having to dub over Roiland definitely makes it a lot harder so I bet the new voices will only improve from here.
My guess is why they’re hiding new voice actors names is because fans who are not OK with a new voice actors and want Justin Roiland to come back will start harassing the new voice actors until they quit
I'm going to be honest with you I think it's going to be just like when claptrap got a different voice actor it's going to sound weird for 20 minutes and then you're not going to give the tell them apart in a year
As the AwestruckVox said on Roundtable, we need to remember... This season was mostly finished in a voice recording standpoint before Roiland was dropped. So the 8th season would be when the new voices would truly show their talents.
There is one thing I was hoping you were going to address, earthbath in space bath dancing two seemingly entertain a space king, Morty, and summer. I know it doesn't seem like much but part of me always wonders if Morty and summer could would they try to punish their moms. And to be fair they most definitely deserve it I will not get over the Thanksgiving special.
I know a lot of the fanbase just wanted the voices to sound the same, and they do. Some people are very nitpicky about the small difference. I was kinda hoping theyed go into a different direction, because i never liked mortys voice.
I'm still a little sus about it being ai voices but I don't hear any specific identifiers that could give it away and understand the reasons given, but if it does get revealed to be AI I'm glad I gave up with the show
I think its very smart to not reveal the names of the voice actors beforehand so they aren't harassed before the series even drops. Unfortunately I can see the harassment happening when they are revealed but the voices don't even sound bad at all like they are quite close with more time to grow as they get more comfortable in the role.
Okay, going off of what the insider at Adult Swim said, I’d say there’s like a 90% chance that whoever is voicing either Rick or Morty or possibly even both of them are household names. The way the statement was worded made it seem like they were less worried about the voice actors being harassed and moreso concerned with people’s enjoyment of the season, and I think it’s really likely that they were worried that fans would make assumptions about how the season will turn out based solely on the identities of the new voice actors
They should have just gotten the guy from Bush World Adventures and both Rick and Morty have just decided to always have an Australian accent going forward
I think I will definitly have to get used to the new voices. I also think it's good to keep the new actors secret for now, considering how hateful some fans can get. I disagree that people who didn't hear about the Royland situation will not notice, I think the differences are very noticable, however not saying that that's a bad thing. It will just take some time to get used to.
One thing that I don't think anyone has pointed out, I saw Ice-T very briefly in the trailer as well... As for the voice acting, I think solar opposites did the right thing, and I think Rick and Morty is also doing the right thing. The solar opposites approach would absolutely not work with Rick and Morty. I thought it was both funny and it fits with the kind of show that the solar opposites is. We've dealt with voice actor changes over the years, especially recently with the likes of Dr. Hibbert on The Simpsons, and other changes made for ethnicity reasons. As long as the stories are good and these voice actors eventually get into a rhythm, perhaps by season 8, I'm definitely going to at minimum give it a fair shot.
after hearing morty's new voice a couple times it has started to sound a bit like the voice actor for yumyulack from solar opposites but a bit pitched up (mostly the cadence and inflecion)
i am certain the morty voice is a teenager he reminds me too much of steven universe to me it doesn't work but for others it seems it does rick sounds good when speaking normally but completely loses everything once he raises his voice
When it comes to Rick and Morty I just always wish they'd go back to having simpler, sillier, goofier, slower paced episodes like they did the first two seasons. Some of those episodes managed to F with your mind pretty good too (especially after a bowl or two 😆). It was just written better back then. Especially season 1 just had the most random stuff going on in it, and even the way they spoke, and the designs and conduct of the background characters made me laugh. Starting in season 3 some of the magic of the show seemed to start slipping away and it's been slipping ever since. Meh, just my two cents, I'm still gonna watch but I'll admit I've only seen the last few seasons once each but I go back to the first two the most, and occasionally to three or four every time I wanna watch R&M. I'll make an exception for Mr. Nimbus. He's cool, and the other plot of that episode with the dimension that ran more quickly in time was amazing.
I know we haven't seen a ton but I think they're pretty solid replacements. Honestly the only thing that really stood out is that this Rick doesn't have enough 'oomf' in his voice. He just sounds tired all the time. Which, lol, is valid for the character but still. I love voice acting, it's a passion of mine, and I can say for sure that the more the series goes on the more these two will get used to the voices and really not only perfect them but make them their own at the same time in an organic way.
Kinda obscure, but I remember when they switched actors for Carlos in the podcast "Welcome to Nightvale", they just made a ridiculous in universe reason as to why he sounded different and honestly, Rick and Morty is like the perfect setting to do that as well
All I'm saying is, somebody said "if they sound different, even slightly, have Rick blame it on 'second puberty' or something stupid like that" which I think would be a hilarious way to completely acknowledge them sounding slightly different. 😂
So Morty is pretty perfect, rick is like 60% the same but there are a few bits where he sounds perfect, I saw someone say maybe as they recorded more he got better and I hope that's true. Overall much better than I thought they would be
Adult Swim ended up pulling a Nintendo. Nintendo is keeping the new voice actor/actors for Mario and Luigi a secret until "Super Mario Bros. Wonder" comes out! 🤓
Anyone remember when the creator of Clarence was ousted after supposedly sexually harassing women working on the show or something (I barely remember)? The staff said he barely contributed to the series and he was easily replaced, and had you not known about it, you probably wouldn't have noticed. Of course, the difference there was that was early in the show's run, not 10 years down the line. I'm glad they chose to go with sound-a-likes and not pull the same thing they did with Solar Opposites. It worked for THAT show, but it would have been a dumb choice here. As long as they don't go full on meta about it. It was funny in Solar Opposites, here it would be annoying and redundant.
I remember that and I don't think Clarence would've done something like that, like with Solar Opposites anyway. It was a very different kind of show if I remember right, it was much more grounded in reality.
@@Santoryu90 I mean to say that when Skyler Page was ousted from Clarence it wasn't a major loss or there wasn't a major change felt. The other show runners basically said he provided the barest concept of the show (basically Clarence himself) and character's voice. And his replacement was so dead on, if you weren't aware of the behind the scenes drama, you never would have known the difference. The only thing Justin seems to have contributed until he was fired was voice work, but his firing was after 6 seasons and VERY public, but it seems to be a similar case. I don't think the show will be dramatically different, and I see the situation more like Clarence than Ren and Stimpy.
The voices sound just a little off to me, but I have feeling as the show progresses they will get more and more polished. I’m just hoping for this season to be good, the expectations are high on my part.
I preferred Solar Opposites approach of having a complete new voice actor as Dan Stevens absolutely killed it as Korvo, but I get why they had similar voices with Rick and Morty.
I was one of the people who fully thought the new voices would purposely be different as a stupid meta joke but the trailer sounded pretty close. I, at the very least, appreciate the effort
I kinda get what people mean when they say they think that the voices sound like AI. Because the voices acters are trying to sound like Rick and Morty, but are slightly different it feels the same way I feel about AI impersonations of real people. It's definitely going to take me a while to get used to.
Honestly, I think withholding the identities of the new voice actors is the responsible thing to do in the grand scheme of things. Given how fans reacted to the schezwan sauce joke in season 3, it's clear the fans have... boundary issues, to put it kindly.
Eh, I think it's a red herring. I could care less about how good of a person that voice-actor is, as long as he does his job. WIsh they would have kept Roiland on
Honestly I’m wondering if the birdperson/squanchy road trip episode is a flashback or maybe another memory travel episode, mostly bc bp doesn’t look sewn together like he did after rickternal friendshine! Plus not having seen squanchy in literal eons, they very rarely show like lore heavy or big returning characters in their trailers and teasers! But regardless I love a good getting the band back together romp. Looking forward to see what you think as the season goes if you choose to talk about it!
The Solar Opposites replacement was and is still so jarring to me. It doesn’t matter how many “this is normal now, deal with it!” Jokes you make about the audience, it doesn’t make it any less weird to watch. I keep getting pulled out of the show like “ohh yeah, he sounds like that now.”
1:36 seeing the fum ad made me so happy! No one wants to support a nicotine addiction, i started vaping during covid and i keep seeing fum ads and want to try it really bad! I actually get raspberry lemon flavoured vapes everytime so if its good it would be a lifesaver!
Honestly, im really impressed that you managed to do that entire section on MPBH without using the phrase "getting his shit together" 😂 i would have beaten that joke into the fucking ground lmao
A few of the lines make me reeeealllly think it’s Dan Harmon doing Rick now. He probably had to work on getting the voice, but I’d bet some money that it’s Dan.
I watched the trailer before realizing that the voices were new actors and couldn’t tell a difference at all from the clips they selected to show. Whoever the voice actors are, they are going to nail this performance imo
The new Rick is good but they sounds like they’re not recording in a professional setting. It sounds like they not in a consistent position or setup. There is a parts where they sound like one line is in a room with sound dampening and then the next line is read in what sounds like a room with hard surfaces and a lot more echoes
I think you might be reading too much into the "That's AMortie means death therefore vampires" thing. For one thing, the pronunciation based on the spelling probably sounds like his name, "ah-MOR-tee," and not "ah-MOR-tay." It's probably just the title for the mafia-style episode, since, you know... Italian word... Sinatra song...
Mmm i think i understand why they’re protecting the new VAs’ identities because some fans are awful people and to avoid harassment before the season airs 😅
I hoped they'd pull some Solar Opposites type stuff. I honestly thought the dramatic change and the bluntly calling out of that change were hilarious 😅 maybe I'm weird but it made me laugh so freaking hard!

though with how deductive the collective internet can be that won't stay a secret long anyway.
Don’t worry we will
We'll go for shows END even, if Roiland doesnt come back, its wrong to be fired and replaced in you show just for a crazy bitch that lied to court.
Remember, theres voice changes, and then theres the case of Early Cuyler in the last season of Squidbillies
I like the new voices way more then I really thought I would. Part of it I could tell, then other parts I couldn’t.
I know a lot of the fanbase just wanted the voices to sound the same, and they do. Some people are very nitpicky about the small difference. I was kinda hoping theyed go into a different direction, because i never liked mortys voice.
I'm still a little sus about it being ai voices but I don't hear any specific identifiers that could give it away and understand the reasons given, but if it does get revealed to be AI I'm glad I gave up with the show
I thought they weren't gonna use voice impersonators. They ended up sounding a lot more similar than expected.
I'm glad they at least sound pretty similar cause some of the stuff they said about the voices a few months ago was misleading
I think its very smart to not reveal the names of the voice actors beforehand so they aren't harassed before the series even drops. Unfortunately I can see the harassment happening when they are revealed but the voices don't even sound bad at all like they are quite close with more time to grow as they get more comfortable in the role.
I think it is, so we can shit on the bag of those who are ok with ruinig what others worked hard to make a HIT out of it.
6:46 that's what I hope to see in the season premiere of Rick helping Mr.Poopybuthole getting his life back on track
As long as the stories are good and these voice actors eventually get into a rhythm, perhaps by season 8, I'm definitely going to at minimum give it a fair shot.
after hearing morty's new voice a couple times it has started to sound a bit like the voice actor for yumyulack from solar opposites but a bit pitched up (mostly the cadence and inflecion)
i am certain the morty voice is a teenager he reminds me too much of steven universe to me it doesn't work but for others it seems it does
rick sounds good when speaking normally but completely loses everything once he raises his voice
The voices arent the best but they are the best we can get. I feel like you notice when rick screams but not a singular bit from Morty
I wonder if they'll give an explanation in the show why the voices are slightly different or just completely avoid the subject altogether
It's Billy West (Morty) and John DiMaggio (Rick).
But you may remember them as Fry and Bender from Futurama.
i had no idea new futureama is coming
Bro I love how fum just took a bigger product and made it smaller targeting a new niche 😂 smart af
Didn't noticed it when I saw the trailer. Great work from the actors.
Am I the only one who was extremely hyped...for simply... MOTORHEAD ACE OF SPADES!!?
sorry lol i just love old metal.
Let’s be real… I suspect there is some of that, but that there is also a chance that the performers are AI.
"it's a nice light fruity flavor." Johnny what did you mean by that?
that the flavor is light and fruity
I like their voices 90% of the time, however sometimes I feel like... there's something missing in Rick's voice
I feel the voice is noticeable when Rick is yelling. It feels coarse. But when speaking normally, it sounds good.
Ricks voice is supposed to be a little deeper and sound like he doesnt give af i think its missing that
I feel eventually they will get the voices better as the show goes on more.
Maffia can also be That's Amorte because of the italian mob thing.
Kinda obscure, but I remember when they switched actors for Carlos in the podcast "Welcome to Nightvale", they just made a ridiculous in universe reason as to why he sounded different and honestly, Rick and Morty is like the perfect setting to do that as well
I don't mind at all that Rick sounds different, so long as the acting is convincing.
All I'm saying is, somebody said "if they sound different, even slightly, have Rick blame it on 'second puberty' or something stupid like that" which I think would be a hilarious way to completely acknowledge them sounding slightly different. 😂
Justine Royland was found not guilty why doesn't he have his job back?
So Morty is pretty perfect, rick is like 60% the same but there are a few bits where he sounds perfect, I saw someone say maybe as they recorded more he got better and I hope that's true. Overall much better than I thought they would be
Honestly I don't mind they voice change as long as the season is good that's all that matters.
Adult Swim ended up pulling a Nintendo. Nintendo is keeping the new voice actor/actors for Mario and Luigi a secret until "Super Mario Bros. Wonder" comes out! 🤓
Dubbing over Roiland clips would actually help the new voice actors as it gives them perfect examples they can imitate.
I don't think the actors will be bad, Fandom will blow a fuse but I know they picked a great cast for Rick and Morty
so Roiland acted TOO RICK and got RICK'd out of RICK and Morty? .. how RICK'd UP is that?
The voices sound just a little off to me, but I have feeling as the show progresses they will get more and more polished. I’m just hoping for this season to be good, the expectations are high on my part.
I preferred Solar Opposites approach of having a complete new voice actor as Dan Stevens absolutely killed it as Korvo, but I get why they had similar voices with Rick and Morty.
Best South park and Cartoon reviewer in youtube imo keep up the good work my brother
It will be less work on the actors if it's 2 people. Maybe this is a good thing in the long run. 😊
could you just IMAGINE if dan stevens turns out to be the new rick & morty
I was one of the people who fully thought the new voices would purposely be different as a stupid meta joke but the trailer sounded pretty close. I, at the very least, appreciate the effort
I kinda get what people mean when they say they think that the voices sound like AI. Because the voices acters are trying to sound like Rick and Morty, but are slightly different it feels the same way I feel about AI impersonations of real people. It's definitely going to take me a while to get used to.
Absolutely hated that shot in the trailer with the gorilla’s nose
I don't like new voices, because there're people who can and do better job voicing Rick and Morty
Imagine if they're hiding the name because he's in jail
I think the mafia one is "that's amortie." Cause, you know, Italian mafia
For one thing, the pronunciation based on the spelling probably sounds like his name, "ah-MOR-tee," and not "ah-MOR-tay."
It's probably just the title for the mafia-style episode, since, you know... Italian word... Sinatra song...
Honestly they seem very similar to the original so maybe it will grow on you in about 2 episodes
I wonder if they'll go back and redub the old seasons. That would be a lot of effort. But they could sell it as a multiverse dvd or something.
Probably hiding them so they wont face harassment or any sort of backñash before the season can be unleashed
I'm thinking that Rick is either Tom Kenny or Bobby Tisdale or Daniel McDevitt the guy that voiced Rusty from Squidbillies
