First of all, congratulations for having passed the exam! I have mine in June, could you give me tips about how to prepare myself for the different parts of the exam? Should I focus on learning new vocabulary or doing mock exams? Thank you!
In my opinion, in the first question which is ‘Where are you from?’ is not necessary to give such a long answer as it is shown in the vídeo. I’d say that answering with ‘I’m from Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain’ would be fine. The others questions from Part 1 should be answered with the length shown in the video. Hope it helps!
It does depend on the question, I agree with you. The length of the answer should be appropriate for whatever the examiner asks you. A simple question like "Where are you from?" doesn't need a super long response.
What age/ grade usually takes this test? I have a young 5th grader who just took the B1 and I'm told she's taking the B2 first in September. Her parents don't speak English so I'm left with her not knowing why she is taking the test 😂 Your videos are so good and have helped me prepare her well. I couldn't have done it without your advice.
This is an interesting comment. There is a version of the B2 First exam called B2 First for Schools where the topics are adapted to children and teenagers so your student is probably at the lower end of the age range for that. I guess the main problem might be that she doesn't know a lot about certain topics just cause she is still quite young, but at least in the speaking test, the examiners can choose appropriate questions. However, if she's just taken B1, I'm not sure if moving on to the next level so quickly is a good idea as there's a pretty wide gap in terms of language level between the two tests.
@teacherphill I totally agree! She is doing the school age B2 First. I explained to her today that she could have difficulty because she hasn't studied the subjects yet ( such as the economy). I've taught her for many years. I play your videos for her and we discuss them. 🤣. I'm mostly teaching her now HOW to take the test. How to organize her thoughts and writing. KISS. I'll let ya know how it goes in September. She's in China going into 6th grade in a public school. THANK YOU!
I saw the marks of both, Maria and Florine, but I didn't understand... Could you explain me how it works? It is 5 points the maximum for each? Thanks!!!
Yes, the maximum for each marking criterion is 5. If you get 3/5 on average, you could say that you've passed. It is a little bit more complex than that, but it's a good reference for you.
Thank you so much, I've passed the B2 exam!!! Your teaching is amazing!!!
That's great news! Congratulations! :)
