- A year in the making: the first ever tool-assisted speedrun of the Portal 2 singleplayer campaign, completed in 47:13.033.
Thanks to Burger40, szeimartin, AMJ, Can't Even, sear, Blenderiste09, Krzyhau, lucasskywalker, mlugg, rainbow, and Trick for their work on segments. This run follows the Inbounds No SLA ruleset, so the player has to stay within the bounds of the map at all times, and quicksaves cannot be used to gain an advantage.
This TAS was created using SourceAutoRecord (sar.portal2.sr) - thanks to mlugg, Blenderiste09, Krzyhau, David, rainbow, and Soni for their work on the TAS tools and surrounding utilities. Special thanks to lucasskywalker, Burger40, Can't Even, and mlugg for the rendering and editing of the run.

Why would it need zoom? Wouldn’t that just slow it down since the camera moves slower?
@@logda6836 we're able to move the camera to any angle instantaneous using TAS, so that's not an issue. There's no reason we ever *need* zoom, it's just for visual presentation - we don't actually use it much

i still want these TAS runs through a 3rd person perspective. Specifically, the glados cameras on the walls.

I love that the TAS has so much character put into it too. Like 21:20, carrying the turret and bhopping backwards to the lift because fuck it, why not? Incredible work to everyone!
Because that would lose time. We actually use the turret there to boost ourselves, which gives us speed, saving like a second on this segment.
But yeah, I do agree that personalities of TAS creators resonate through their creations. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Krzyhau that's insane, and y'all are insane 😂 I watched the GDQ version and was amazed that the turret is actually useful there.
New favorite part is probably shooting the turrets as they explode while confronting glados. But fr I appreciate y'all so much for bringing so much attention to speedrunning my favorite game. When I started speedrunning in 2013 I would have never guessed it would get this far!

I just imagine chell as this coke infused, adrenaline rush having crazy person just vibrating intensely at the end of the game having achieved the power of flight simply by dodging gravity waves.
I'm really glad that it turned out so well and that everyone likes it so much. The hard work definitely payed off :)

Fr this is monumental, and something ive wanted since around 2016, seeing this come to live is once again surreal to me. This was nuts watching live. i literally was out of my seat watching finale 4 skip actually happen. Huge respect to everyone who made this possible

I love the mouse tracking and cutscene timed firing, it really didn't need to be there, but they did it anyways, just for the audience
to people who dont understand why he didnt die in the goo: msushi did a vid on the bug but essentialy you get godmode during the cutscene and because it technically never ends youll have godmode for the rest of the game

You forgot to explain which cutscene! It's the cutscene when GLaDOS wakes up, which you end early by standing on the incinerator.
The game gives you godmode during cutscenes to make sure you can't die in the middle of them. Since this cutscene didn't actually end, you keep godmode, and it's maintained between levels.
2022 may be a bad year but at least we have Portal 2 full game TAS.

This was breathtaking. I'm so glad I started watching speedrun explanation videos a while back. That's how I found out about Can't Even, which is how I followed his channel on Twitch, which is how I found out about this TAS, which is how I got to watch speedrunning history get made in real time. It is so cool to see the culmination of what I imagine is unbelievable amounts of work. The sheer amount of dedication the Portal 2 speedrunning community has is astonishing. To think about all the glitches that have been discovered and all the time and effort put in to understand and make use of the inner workings of the game is something to crazy. Incredible work.

The thing with an any% tas, is that the majority of it would be just saving and loading out of bounds to fly to loading boxes. It would be boring to TAS and boring to watch.

@@dord3298 it may be "boring to watch" for an average viewer, but there is still a demand to see portal 2 as fast as possible, and I know that I would personally be willing to work on an any% TAS. The tools in their current state would have to be reworked in order to better support TASing with SLA, but I believe that sometime within the next few years there might be an any% TAS released.
