Just received this book after seeing it described on Ross Campbell’s channel. I’m looking forward to digging into it. The reviews are uniformly excellent. Thanks, Ross. Thanks, Levi.
I've been a fan of Ross since I stumbled on him 5 or 6 years ago. I bought both Bulletproof Guitar Player courses on Udemy at the time and was thoroughly impressed. His book went on sale about a week and a half ago and I got it too. I've made it to page 45, example 5.18, so far and it is exactly what I needed. His playing style and explanations are formatted to my current level of understanding. The tabs are spot on with the video examples so thanks to Levi for that. I believe, without sounding cliche, this could be the rut buster I need.
It says so much about the state of blues players that voice leading, arpeggios and diatonic lines blow minds! Ross is a classy and tasteful player who reminds us that playing music rather than grinding out the same tired old pentatonic boxes is what we should be striving for.
I bought the Kindle version. It looks great -- the music is easily readable. I downloaded the MP3s (908 MB) and the MOV videos (22.7 GB), but you can stream the videos if you don't want to download them. All of those files come in ZIP archives -- there are three for the videos, ranging from 5.6 GB to 10.2 GB. The expanded data are the same size as the ZIP archives, so no compression was used (MP3 and MOV files probably can't be compressed more than they already are).
I bought the book the moment I first saw the announcement and I just can highly recommend it. If you struggle with the changes between the I, IV, V like me, this book is just a fucking goldmine. Best blues book if seen so far! Also great transcription as always Levi.
Working my way through this and it is fantastic. Great guitar playing and the transcription is pretty much bang on. Great job to both of you and thanks for giving me some riffs to work on for the next few days.
It's a wonderful book ! Very easy and interesting to read with lots of ressources. The explanations are very clear too. The videos, mp3s and backing tracks are also very good. I love it.
Thank you! Yes, Mr. Campbell is a very accomplished and interesting player. For me learning the Mixolydian and Dorian modes really helped link everything together. Considering Mixolydian to be the major pentatonic scale helped, and thinking of the Dorian mode as the natural minor (in other words for example, D major is E Dorian, but if you think musically in terms of B minor rather than D major it helps thinking in terms of minor tonality).
Check out Robben Ford's "Talk To Your Daughter" if you want to hear where Ross's backing track came from. I'm a big fan of Ross - I have his new book and highly recommend it. Ross does an excellent take over this track - but Robben Ford absolutely kills it !
Great Stuff Levy and thanks for the transcription. I had just started to transcribe this solo in Gtr Pro from Ross's UA-cam offering and will compare my attempt to yours to see how well I do. I know yours will be spot on. Ross is a very good teacher and becoming a special player in the blues world. I have also bought his book.... lots of work to do but I think this book has to be the best insight to date for 'breaking out ' of the Pentatonic scale and playing more intelligent phrases like our heroes.
Just bought it.still my favorite book is your country guitar soloing technics .If you want to understand the Caged system this is the book .Great examples .I have bought several Caged from Truefire they are good but dont come close to the way you approached it.Thank you, Thank you,Thank you.
Campbell's one of millions, big difference from the old guys who weren't programmed like the new age bluesters who've been fed a diet of techniques through media...soloing has different emphasis... Go listen to some Snooky Pryor
Should do a vid on Eric Steckle if you haven't already. Has some of the most clean, fast, and soulful hard blues playing I've come across lately. Love your vids Levi, doing God's work.
That book sounds perfect, and it comes with a lot of resources like 72 backing tracks (all 12 keys X 3 tempos X two bands [with/without keyboards]). Great stuff. Count me in. Ross Campbell's video lays it all out: ua-cam.com/video/Yg3TqWzAJWc/v-deo.html
I love this book, but like most others, I wish there was a way to get the time and feel as well as the notes lol....I find myself listenng to an example 5 times to get the timing right, but well worth the work in the end :)
Hi Levy, I have a special request along the lines of Ross's great blues licks. Lonnie Johnson could be one of the most influential guitarists for great blues players like BB King and so many others. Would you tab out Lonnie's solo (starting about 3:20)? ua-cam.com/video/xDRg3XMfU94/v-deo.html
It is really good playing but to me too much the same, not enough rest or space between notes, it is the the kind of improv that after 2 minutes i can’t stand more
Thanks again for the kind words mate!
Omg the master imself is here!
sick tone btw...aside from the great playing.
Love your Tone ans playing 😊
yuppp I'm getting it

This isnt melodic in the slightest. Completely numbed my ear. Nobody needs to be wasting their time on half ass blues jazz. No bite.

Yep got the book and its fantastic now on chapter 5 and have learnt so much already, great work Ross…!
Hey Levi! Can you check out the cover of Have a Cigar by The Main Squeeze? The solo is other-worldly.
Great transcription, thank you. Nice to see the level of maturity and range in the young players, impressive!
Yes, I've got it, it's excellent. Don't forget it's also got videos & backing tracks to download.

Thanks, Clay. You're always doing great work! Question - does the book come with Ross's sense of time and feeling? Asking for a friend.

Very great jam! I hear a lot of Robben Ford in there😎
Any chance there will be a PDF version? Bonus would would be guitar pro tabs. I'd pay for that.

When a blues guitarist knows more than just pentatonics they're like 2/3 of the way to playing bebop.
Excellent solo…like a combination of Robben Ford and Freddie King
It's not just 'like.' It IS Robben Ford - note for note.
Robben Ford ish. Tone and style. That's a good thing
Flo Nageli and Robbie Barnby are two more amazing young players that would be worth transcribing.
Sounds like robben ford

Everybody knows blues is five letters because of the pentatonic. Dont lie no blues player knows more than 5 notes.
😂
I am unfamiliar with him lol
Much prefer Chris Cain
Robin Ford already does this much better.
so much better you couldn't even spell his name correctly. You must be a big fan.
