Ladies and Gentlemen, Dr. Wizard is in the house to amaze us with his mind boggling technical and musical prowess. I've been listening to Al D. since he was with Return to Forever. I've seen him several times in concert. I wish he would do some work with Bill Bruford on drums and the Yellowjackets. Now that would be interesting. This piece, Tao, is even more brilliant than RTF. I would've loved to have been front row center.
Oh Al, You've touched my Music Passion, In ways Only a Guitar Virtuoso can. Jeff Beck is the Only Man who Turns His Guitar into Passionate Mastering. You on the other hand make me Put my guitar down and Dream, Dream Dream.....Thank you!!!.......... Sincerely , Sami Abbott.
I saw him at a little club called Parker's in Seattle just before the Tiramisu album was released, amazing.. the whole band is world class, of course..best guitarist ever..that is all
Al is my all-time favorite guitar player. I love so many great guitarists in his caliber, such as Tony MacAlpine, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, as well as early jazz fusion innovators Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin. On the technicality aspect, they are all truly phenomenal and outstanding with their command on the electric guitar, they are flawless and all have the chops. While Al is highly proficient and exceptional on the axe when it comes to speed and alternate picking, he is in my opinion a much more gifted musician in comparison to the other guys I mentioned. Especially McLaughlin and Coryell, Al is on par with their musicianship, but what makes him more extraordinary to them is that he can really write an incredible piece of music with a melody that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. It's astounding to listen to him play, Al is the king of the electric guitar in my humble opinion and he's the most extraordinary musician of all time.
totally agree....when I went to jazz college the guitar instructors had a really low opinion of Al...like he wasn't good because he wasn't playing traditional stuff....Al would have schooled any one of them with a broken arm. I grew up listening to Al's early stuff thanks to my mom and to this day its still my favorite music to listen to.
Two minutes twenty eight seconds buzz roll off the snare, cymbals from; off the thirty second note sequence of closed hi-hats, drumset drummer notes the sequence in the cymbal pattern over house PA, drops snare side sticking pre cymbal section. Fantastic, improvisation of rhythm section to drum solo. Solution: hi-hat upstroke in traditional grip or exclusively off the buzz roll start the section off the buzz roll to a hi-hat side lead hand to pull upstroke thirty seconds. Source: Notation rarely carries a lead hand, or instances where a track involves sequencing independent limb selection to a piece of music, of a bass or lead guitar player; watch lead guitar players for subtle hints...two minutes two seconds section option lead or riding hand to complete two minutes six seconds adn crash. Melatonin!

I would also add Alan Holdsworth to your list. Might I suggest to everyone reading these posts to check out One Of A Kind by Bill Bruford.
