  • Clarendon Virginia is commonly known for its rising urbanization that sits in the very heart of the Orange Line Corridor.
Fun Fact: Due to Clarendon’s walkable neighborhood, 20% of its residents don’t own a car and another 50% opt to walk, bike, or take public transportation.
With its beautiful tree-lined streets, a bustling nightlife, and a wide variety of housing options, Clarendon has lots to offer to both locals and tourists alike.
    ***Where is Clarendon Virginia Located?
Clarendon is a neighborhood within Arlington County in Virginia.
After years of major changes in the neighborhood over the years, there is no general agreement of the boundaries.
Fun fact: Most of Clarendon’s 40-45 blocks resemble triangles instead of squares.
Due to Clarendon’s blocks, the precise dimensions for the boundaries are not defined. In fact, there are different sets of boundaries that are often used.
    These boundaries include: bit.ly/3kK1HBf
Clarendon’s Sector Plan area (Cleveland Street, 11th Street, Kirkwood Street, 13th Street, Highland Street and Wilson Boulevard)
The boundaries of the Clarendon Alliance Association (Ashton Heights, Clarendon-Courthouse, Lyon Park and Lyon Village, and bounded by Lee Highway, Veitch Street, Wilson Boulevard, Arlington Boulevard, Glebe Road, Wilson Boulevard, and Kirkwood Street)
The Clarendon-Courthouse Civic Association (Wilson Boulevard, N. Courthouse Road, Arlington Boulevard, and N. 10th Street)

    Short History of Clarendon
Before Clarendon became what it is today, thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled and relocated in the neighborhood after the Vietnam War.
    Fun Fact:
Clarendon was once known as “Little Saigon”.
Nam Viet is the only Vietnamese restaurant that’s still open in Clarendon today.
According to the Arlington County Cultural Project, about 15% of the Vietnamese refugee community lived in the Washington area during the mid-1970s.
The neighborhood was then home to Vietnamese grocery stores, restaurants, department stores, and entertainment to service the large Vietnamese population in the area.
By then, there was a lot of available and affordable housing. However, that didn’t last long as the Clarendon Metro started to take in major changes. It wasn’t long when rent started to rise.
    Staying in Clarendon
Despite Clarendon’s booming economy, it still maintains plenty of parks (and dog parks), walking paths, playgrounds, and other areas that the community can enjoy.
Clarendon has a wide variety of residents ranging from young professionals in their early 20s to older residents that settle in the neighborhood for retirement.
Clarendon also has beautiful real estate commonly clustered in Lyon Village and Lyon Park.
With plenty of living options such as condo buildings, townhouses, and more, Clarendon sure is to attract a wide range of buyers.
Single-family homes are also available such as bungalows, Cape Cods, brick colonial houses, and even brand new homes in small plots of land.
    The Metro
Clarendon’s metro area is just one of the few things that tourists and local residents alike gather in.
Most commonly known for its bustling nightlife, the Clarendon metro area attracts a diverse population during the weekend.
Recently, business chains have been popping up in the area however the metro still has a few community favorites such as Galaxy Hut, Whitlow’s on Wilson, which is a popular grill and bar venue, Liberty Tavern, and more.
If you’re a local resident in Clarendon, you know that it hosts local and county-wide events each year.
One big event is Arlington's Neighborhood Day, which happens on the 2nd of Saturday of May, and Clarendon Day which happens on a Saturday mid-October.

I still have my ceramic Asian elephant purchased in Little Saigon on Wilson Bl. In 1975. That area was a great (and inexpensive) place to shop/eat back in the day

Clarendon is tied with Ballston for the most walkable areas in Northern Virginia. Crystal City, where Amazon HQ2 is located will surpass both locations in the next 10 years if they build new condos that for sale versus luxury apartment developments.
Carlyle on the western side of Old Town Alexandria is in the top 5 spot because of the ability to grab groceries, access to entertainment and plenty of restaurants that are open past office hours.
Ballston is my favorite of the places mentioned on this list because you have a variety of housing options to choose from, several parks, two metro stops, a shopping mall, and a large public library.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
      Onward,

Ballston/Virginia Square in Arlington is my recommendation. You can find a townhouse or single family home near Quincy Park which will give you quick access to Giant (grocery store) and a short walk to the metro station.
