Been up Golden Ears 4 times. We usually made it a 1-day up/down trip then on the last visit we camped for 2 nights... so much better to add that kind of time rather than make everything a workout or personal competition! Pack a tent ⛺, snacks, and a LifeStraw ... and go! Love your videos Luke.
Awesome hike, Luke. Those cloud shots are amazing. I've lived in SW BC my whole life, camping every year, and never once filtered the water from streams or lakes - I've never had a problem either. Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!
Hey this is an awesome video! We have just moved to Vancouver and this looks like a perfect trip not so far away! Thanks for sharing and providing me some inspiration :)
Wow what a hike and what a view! I’ve done the lower trails in golden ears a few times, looks like I’ll have to head up to the peak ASAP. Been watching a bunch of your videos lately. Can’t believe how good they are and how often you explore 👍
I don't know if it because i'm high, but the ASMR sounds of nature and footsteps through the forest is just amazing lol. Good job whether it was on purpose or not. lol :)
amazing video! good for you guys for making it up there, the view and experience must be unforgettable. out of curiosity, are there bear bins on panorama ridge where you camped? i may be totally wrong but from the pictures it looks like there are no trees to hang bear bags up on
Amazing Luke. Thank you for Showing Me/Us what is right out my back door. I have recently Retired and looking for Adventure and Challenge, ( not like some of the things you tackle, too much for this Body ). You are definitely Inspiring with your outlook and Adventurous Spirit. Thank you
This is amazing, I’m so glad you shared this! Nice that there other campers with you two to experience it as well... also Your doggo is also super adorable 😍
Great video! I just have a couple questions. Where there any animals or anything that could pose a harm on the mountain? What's the exact mountain called? Any tips on what to bring or what not to bring? Can you bring a small portable butane cooker on the peak? Or where can I go to find the answer to all these questions
Hey Luke, Love your videos! Any chance you could provide some insight on camping and permits at the summit? I've don e this hike but and would love to camp up there but their site is tough to understand specifically when it comes to the summit. TIA!
It's just the Gold Ears campsite below the peak/ at the emergency shelter. No, Panorama ridge is in a different park and this camp site is quite far from Whistler.
The trail's name is Golden Ears mountain, you cannot reserve backcountry campsites, of which this is one, they are first come first serve. They cost 5$/person/night and this is paid online
Your video inspires me! Thank you for capturing! If I were to ask some questions, in general of most of your hikes, how do you capture all of these? (I mean, mix of GoPro and the Sony A7s?) Some of the time lapse seemed to be moving, so do you have a gimbal or something similar that you carry too? That would be quite some weight to carry, it probably would add to the difficulty, but then again, it helps us get to see your nice adventure! My last question is in regards to battery for your gear. Do you take a lot of spare batteries pre-charged? Really cool to wonder about all these questions! (It's ok if you can't answer them all). But really, thank you very much for documenting your videos and taking us to great heights while down here on plain land. Hope one day I can do this hike too! Keep it up brother!
Hey Sarwar! Thanks for the comment, in this video it's all the a7s (now I use an insta360 too) and I do a little panning/tilting digitally to the time lapses. Yes, I have to take a bunch of charged batteries with me, and unfortunately the battery life on the a7s is pretty awful.
I have a gear video on my channel if you want to see more, but here's a general idea: sleeping bag and pad, tent, water, food, stove and cookware, lighter, headlamp, warm layers, first aid kit, and a pack to carry it all. And good footwear.
Where these two gentleman camped is not he top of golden ears mountain, not even close, to go to the actual summit your looking at a hike of twelve hours return to car in one shot.
I love your videos are well crafted and the quality is superb. What camera do you use? Even the shots at night are nice. Boosting the iso doesn’t make it grainy.
Damn the nature in North America is really something. Here in Poland we have some nice mountains in the south too but it's not the same when there is a village or a town within 10 km from even the wildest places. It's just too crowded here and the rules in national parks have to be strict to preserve the nature. Generally no wild camping. Europe is just too small haha.
I've heard this about Europe before from other people as well and it makes me always grateful for the wild places we have in Canada. Although this park here in this video is very close to Vancouver and other large cities, and easily accessible.
Hey Luke, awesome timelapses. I'm just wondering if you're dog had any difficulties getting up the tougher sections (ladders rocks etc)... I'm planning on brining my dog to this hike. Also, do you require backcountry permits for this hike?
That trail never had ladders or bridges and tent platforms when I hiked it. If you go to the second peak and look down, there is a cement grave marker. My buddy's best friend fell and was killed there
@@TheOriginalSindini Sheeple, or the old term.. Lemmings. The sort of impact that those people make on an area when they cram together like that is beyond disgusting. It was an honour to share the same space and time with you Luke. As I said, I couldn't be happier right now ❤️
It was a memorable one, we'll have to go on another adventure for sure!
you're a lucky man and a very nice guy.
Amazing video and what great views! Thanks for sharing. One question, did you have to book that campsite?
I just did this hike and I also "sweat from my eyes" when taking in those views!
Haha yep, sometimes it just hits you!
I can't believe this. I was there that night. Watching the clouds at sunset was incredible, but man the lightning was scary through the night!
Haha sweet, ya it was actually nice knowing that were all sharing the same lightning storm experience!
Golden Ears is a great place to hike, taking a dog enriches the experience, nice video
I definitely agree! Thanks.

Thanks Cody! I love that in Canada we still have water clean enough to drink straight from the source!
Wow. Spectacular footage, supportive music and comments. Nicely done.
Thanks Rebecca!
Incredible video. Keep them coming!
Thanks Catherine!
Wow...just wow....Stunning....and an inspiration to get out there!

Good work! Such a stunning location and good job editing! No Idea how UA-cam doesn't pick this up, should have way more views!

just sitting here, drinking a coffee and watching your latest video. Emh, what a relaxing moment after work.
with a coffee, that's perfect!
amazing video
Thanks Rajat!
Awesome video! You're a great producer! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Todd!
awesome. I am guessing you don't really have to worry about storing food in trees up there?
I don't know if it because i'm high, but the ASMR sounds of nature and footsteps through the forest is just amazing lol. Good job whether it was on purpose or not. lol :)
I try to include as many ASMR natural sounds as I can, I want the experience of being there to be communicated through the video
You made that hike look so dreamy! It was a tough slog.
Haha thanks, Courtney! It’s not the easiest hike, that’s for sure.
@@lifeofluke I did this one in 2002 and we made it to the peak. There were no tent pads back then. Lol

Hi What is the name of the campsite that you spent a night? is it Panorama Ridge that can also be accessed from Whistler side?
It's just the Gold Ears campsite below the peak/ at the emergency shelter.
No, Panorama ridge is in a different park and this camp site is quite far from Whistler.
That motion time lapse was unreal 👌🏼
Thanks Anthony!
Pretty popular place what do people use for a bathroom there ?
BSK Garage there’s a toilet at the top.
one half of the emergency shelter is an outhouse
What camera do you use ?
the sony a7s, original version
I want to do this hike, what the trails name? and could you elaborate on how to book the sites at the top? amazing video by the way!

September

Hey bud. Awesome video. What month did you head up? And that campsite... How close to the peak was it??
This was September, and that campsite is just under the peak, ~30mins from the top.
One more question if you remember - do you have to book ahead of time to secure a spot? If so, where?
How long did it take you to get to the emergency house and what was your pace roughly?
maybe 4 hours and I don't know the pace because we stopped often. I don't remember all these small details
Awesome videos :) do you have your path mapped on AllTrails? Which trailhead did you start at?
No, sorry, I don't track my path. We started from the west canyon parking.
Can you please tell the list of items one must carry up there
I have a gear video on my channel if you want to see more, but here's a general idea: sleeping bag and pad, tent, water, food, stove and cookware, lighter, headlamp, warm layers, first aid kit, and a pack to carry it all. And good footwear.
Hey Luke, any nice camp spots beside a lake that a vehicle can drive to? Like a car camping type
Jones lake rec site looks beautiful but I haven't been there psersonally
Love it! I’m wanting to do this trek and wondering if you think it’s safe to bring a dog up the summit?
depending on your dog's ability, I think so, yes
Really want to go backpacking in the Rockies for my bday in March. How is the weather in Canada then?
skis or snowshoes are more appropriate for March... you'll find the temperatures near or well below zero
How big are the tent pads
Maybe 10'x10'? 8x8?
Did you have to book ahead? Looks like a tough climb to get to the top and then find out there’s no where to camp.
There's no booking for backcountry sites, it's first come first serve
