This can be made a little easier by zipping the jacket closed around a sturdy hanger before you put it in the hot salty water to presoak before you add the dye.
The hanger allows you to pull it up out of the dye to check the color or to agitate it if the dye needs help to penetrate a given area. It's also helpful if you're trying for a transition or hombre in-between two different colors.

Hey beautiful, question: did you use a detergent when washing it after the dye process or was that 20 minute wash just water?
Does the color dye stay after few washes? Btw this looks amazing green is my favorite color after see one of your shorts video

I’m late but if the jacket is a darker brown then I would suggest using rit dye’s color remover first

thank you! the one that i dyed purple I got from depop and it was cropped when I got it! basically they were carhartt coveralls before and someone cut it cropped to make it a jacket

Thank you! The type of dye that I use only adheres to certain materials. the tag is and collar are made up of materials that this particular dye does not take to :)

I believe it’s bc the tag is synthetic and the dye is for natural material
The regular RitDye is only for certain materials. They have a DyeMore option that will dye additional materials

I ended up just donating the trousers lol. I have dyed a few tan and they all came out great

I haven’t tried it but depending on the material and using the correct dye, it should!

yes it was originally coveralls cut into a jacket

Don't be surprised if the color does not come off as shown on some of these videos-I had a nice vintage Detroit jacket that I did in green-followed all the procedures and instructions and was very disappointed in my results which was not a full even color dye job-I washed and rewashed and no change-main issue was final splotchy color finish-
Sorry it didn’t work out for you. My color turned out great both times. Not sure if you didn’t continually move it around to get the dye evenly distributed or what
I am thinking that the addition of the Dawn (de greaser) possibly kept the dye from binding with full strength to the fabric possibly-and questioning why do you need to add salt-but its not like I am going to be wearing this jacket to any art gallery openings so its no big deal-also it ruined my beach towel washed with it or at least its now green @@SYDPAIGE

What size is the Carhartt coveralls?
the size was rubbed off but seems like a M/L, pit to pit it's 24.5" and the length is 19.5"
does the collar change color?
for the green jacket I did, it didn’t change at all. for the purple one, it changed a little
Do you know what kind of material the logo is
Polyester
To get a better colour, bleach the original colour out with their bleach, it works better!
What about the collar? Did that change?
The collar is made out of corduroy which is made from synthetic fibers. This particular rit dye only dyes natural fabrics : wool, cotton, silk. So the collar and the carhartt tag didnt take the dye because both are synthetic the logo being polyester. Depending on the lining of the inside of the jacket it shouldnt take because it most likely made from synthetic fibers
for the green jacket that I dyed it didn’t change, but for the one that I dyed purple it did dye some. I think the reason is because the jacket that I dyed purple was originally coveralls, the collar is corduroy but feels diff than the other jackets collar. So I’m assuming the dye took on the second one because the collar is made up of diff materials

I didn’t, I just used hot water

It won’t change
i was trying to figure it out first sheesh lol. the first one I dyed green the collar didn’t change. But the second jacket that I made purple did take to the dye. I’m guessing because it was originally coveralls instead of a jacket and the collar feels diff that the collar on the first jacket. Hope that makes sense
Corduroy collor is different material than main jacket
It says on the bottle why the collar would or wouldn't take the dye. It's based on fabric type. Nylon, Polyester and Acrylic sections won't take this dye and require the use of the Rit Dye More Synthetic version instead.
