    I gotta say, I think these older R8's look better than the current generation cars.

    I’ve always lusted over a manual v10 spyder. I much prefer the looks of the earlier cars over the more modern ones with square styling. What a brilliant video 👏

    • @sportzntouring
      @sportzntouring 2 роки тому +8

      The GT didn't come as a manual unfortunately... And it really is a very different car to the standard R8 V10s in terms of handling... Night and day. It can be manual swapped for about £15k though.

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars 2 роки тому +6

      @@sportzntouring yeah Ive just always just kept an eye on the v10 spyder manual prices with a watchful eye over the years. Never realise just how special the GT is though, thanks James 🤗. I’m not apposed to a decent auto, and this has the brilliant looks from the early cars 👍 one hell of a DadCar!! You guys have made countless treasured memories in this I’m sure.

      I feel exactly the same way. The new 2nd generation R8s look too muscly and flashy. Somethings off about it. It doesn’t have the same sleek, subte look that the 1st gen does. And yes manual all the way 🙏

    • @sportzntouring
      @sportzntouring 2 роки тому +3

      @@dadcars oh yeah, many memories. You can see some on our channel... there's also a comprehensive breakdown video of the differences between the GTs and standard R8s as well as another explaining the contrast with the new R8 V10 GT RWD.

      @sportzntouring 2 роки тому +2

      @@danibragimov4843 people say manual all the way, but usually having never driven the GT. It's a completely different experience. But, it depends on what's more engaging for you... A softer daily drivable manual or a harsher sharp handling paddle shift. Mine's the latter... Money no object, I'd manual swap the GT, but given that's not personally an option (right now) then the GT wins out for me.

    I have an R8 GT Coupe (No.47) thanks to Jayemm's previous videos and wise advice. The gearbox is pretty decent in sport and 'manual' mode (I've never even tried auto!) and at full beans does actually suit the drama of a GT. Trust me, the shunt you feel right through the chassis as it changes up is raw and truly exciting. And downshifts are smooth and sound absolutely glorious. I would like to change the standard exhaust, its good but tame by comparison to the rest of the car and Anthony's Milltek sounds way better. The one thing I don't like is the seats, look cool and racy driving position but not comfortable unless maybe you're a pro racing driver (ie short and skinny - sorry lol). Again Jayemm is spot on with his advice. One shout out to Reece from RTA for his great service and for providing a replacement pre-wired head unit with R8 fascia. And also big thanks to Jayemm for replying to my PMs and featuring the R8 GT in such a positive light. He's not only the hardest working and most honest petrolhead but also as nice in real life as he appears on screen. Cheers J.

    In my opinion the best looking R8 of them all. Never liked the second generation, and this one combined the elegance of the original R8 with some of that Lamborghini flare.

  • @wardog0086
    @wardog0086 2 роки тому +3

    I've gotta say, while I haven't actually driven anything even remotely close to a more basic performance car, let alone a true supercar, the R8 has to be one of the all time greats.
    Both generations have had the performance, sound, etc that make a great supercar, and at a cheaper price than most cars that equal it in those areas.
    Makes it one of the all time greats to me.

    To be fair to Audi, the new "GT" is called the "R8 V10 GT RWD" rather than just the R8 GT. They even say it "pays homage to the original R8 GT"... but everyone still calls it the new GT and it really isn't.

That and they are 10 a penny when compared to old ferrari's. Hense why they are cheap I guess but I think the r8 is certainly the more capable, reliable and sensible car and if I was on a budget id choose the r8. When the new gt was released I was extremely disappointed just like you. I was expecting an Audi STO that looks like the gt3 cars with a final bang, but instead we got a parts bin after thought. That's why i moved onto the lambo side despite the premium. It's also ironic the regular manual v10s are priced much higher than the GTs (esp the facelift cars), despite the GT's rarity. If I dont already have a r8 v10 that i have owned for 8 years, that's extremely sorted (ecu tcu tunes to bring it back to gallardo levels) and equipped with a warranty till 2027, i would jump on a gt while it's still affordable. Makes no sense such a car is cheaper than a cayman gt4. The transmission complaint is overblown, u are not supposed to drive these supercars as a daily anyway (scuderia, aventador, gallardo, r8 etc.), grow some balls or get a boring bimmer to stroll around town

    You did just say cooking right?
    That's the 1st thing that enters my mind about the R8....
    If however you can actually cook a steak or even a chicken better than me I'm all ears.......

    I own 2 performance Audis, and I have no interest in this car. If I had more $$$ to spend I would go straight to a Gallardo manual . . .

    I know looks are subjective but to me the Audi R8 looks are uninspiring and the engine note sounds synthetic,neither of which could ever be said of a Ferrari,admittedly there is a huge premium over the Audi for these "benefits".

    I was never a huge fan of these for two reasons. They are on every street corner in Canada and for whatever reason they are almost always white. I'm sure the driving experience is incredible but I just find the styling lacks personality.

      I appreciate flamboyant design, but I think the subtle appearance of the R8 causes more attention to be drawn to it's unique mechanicals. For me, that's what a supercar should really be all about.

    The overblown and overweight TT has never been a competitor to the real high end brands out there, such as its cousins from Porsche, or Ferrari, Aston Martin etc. Its just a very fast Audi with a great engine whose design leaves a lot to be desired. Engine sounds good however. Can a Chanel handbag that costs thousands be that much different than a Coach handbag? Its all about panache and brand appreciation etc. The Ferrari is not worth more than these other cars.

    I think it's a fair assessment that Audi will probably never make a better car than this, but I really can't abide VAG products. Audi seem to have spent a lot of money trying to convince people they were anything worth having, thier aggressive product placement in "Ronin" for example gave rise to some of the most hilarious sponsored dialogue I think i've ever heard. The desperation with which they bought the placement in Iron Man too always seemed poorly crafted. This coupled with thier pathological aversion to return to the sole realm they were respected for (WRC) and the gratuitous manner in which they looted Lamborghini to try and acquire some semblance of desirability, add to this with the near universal ownership by those with a gift for self falation and all the road manners of an individual who is either on the run from a police pursuit or is about to soil thier underwear and are desperately trying to reach the next services..well, they just aren't appealing for the sort of person you might actually want to be in line at Starbucks behind, let alone have as an acquaintance. The drab photocopier +/-15% scale styling for each model doesn't help either. They just seem bereft of any natural substance or likeability.

      I'm not a big fan of Volkswagen/Audi, but to say they "looted" Lamborghini seems like quite a stretch. You're free to prefer Lamborghini's pre-VAG products (as I do), but there's little arguing that Lambos of the 2000's weren't objectively superior in nearly every way to their predecessors. Lamborghini experienced a renaissance period of design and build quality under VAG leadership and there's every likelyhood that the brand might have otherwise withered and faded like so many other small car companies did through those years.

    Charlotte 🕸🕷 rocks; rather like Deep Purple; although its a very close call as to which I prefer.
    Having seen @SportZnTouring vid on the "new" R8GT it is very reassuring to note that both of you are in agreement 👍.

    The closer I get to my 40s, the more I prefer the R8 to its Lamborghini counterpart... I wanna be able to go for a drive without being tweetered to someone random's facegram instabook.
