Good idea to give out "learn to play commander decks". I'd even suggest making them 60 card decks. Because even if you end up liking the game. You're never going to use that deck to play at a store.
And a 60 card deck is less daunting to a new player and cheaper for wotc to make, package and hand out.

I have been so underwater at work I didn't get a chance to reply! I agree that the 60 card variant would be the better pure "learn to play" deck, but in a board game/community environment like Gen Con, I think Commander would be the way to get em hooked!

I began teaching my 9 year old how to play mtg last year through the LOTR starter decks. Before we played, I jammed it with four off and optimized them with a clear strategy.
Earlier this year, he wanted a dinosaur deck. I made him a ONLY IXALAN deck with Chris Pratt and Blue from JP (he loves Guardians!).
I make 60 card decks for my son and me until he's older, and then he'll join our edh playgroup. I call them theme decks. I made a Fallout Boros deck that's pretty sweet

@HometownTcg The best way to teach a person how to play mtg is 1 vs. 1 60 card decks with multiple copies
