      My pleasure Blake! 😊 I hope to do another garden chores video, but first I need to do some major weeding. 🌱🌱🌱 And of course we are getting more rain this week. 🤣

    Lots of rain and flooding here in SE PA also. Checked this week's weather forecast and we are getting more rain. I'll move some of my pots up onto our breezeway again otherwise my tulip and hyancinth bulbs will be rotting away. Happy Gardening!!

      Hi Linda! I saw we are now getting more rain too. 😢 And this morning we almost dipped to freezing temps. 🥶 My plants really need some sun and warmth - I’m moving pots together to create a warmer microclimate on our patio for now. 🤞Enjoy your pretty tulips and hyacinths! 🌷🪻

    Oh my goodness, the rain has been a little unbearable hasn’t it?!?! Looks like this week will be beautiful for getting some garden chores done. I also planted 6 of the Pink Diamonds Dicentra in the Fall. I lost one, but the rest are looking great. Can’t wait to see them bloom! Enjoy your garden this week.

      Yes it has been unbearable! 💧 Today is Weeding Day, which is always satisfying…after it’s done. 😀 I’m glad you didn’t lose more of your Pink Diamonds, with all the rain. I’m excited to enjoy them too! 🩷

    Garden is looking good! We feel your pain here in south central PA as the rain went on for days. Our biggest concern is root rot as the vast majority of our plants were recently planted. Ironically we also have red headed house finches that nest in our Emerald Green arbovitae next to a window.

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому +1

      I’m glad you feel our pain with the rain, if only to provide sympathy! 💧💙 I’m worried about root rot on a few plants as well, especially a pretty pink Bluebeard that I already replaced once due to root rot from last Winter. Now it may have happened again this year and I’ll have to give up trying to grow this plant. ☹️ I love that you have those house finches too! They are so neat to watch! 😀

    Hi Laura, greetings from central NJ . Same here… non stop with the rain fall. My backyard is saturated with water and the ground is soggy…. Can’t wait to go out for some gardening chores… but I need to be patient . Don’t want to compact my soil… ur garden is looking pretty . Ur plants are not bothered by the wet soil. Do u have good drainage? Love to see ur videos . Learn lots from u. Thanks.

      Hi Linh - hasn’t this rain been the worst? I’m so done with it! 😫 I can’t wait to do some garden chores too! I do have pretty good drainage, having amended and improved the garden soil over the years - which is what I need to do with that flooded bed. 😬 🤣 Here’s hoping we have better weather here in NJ this week! 🤞😀

    The shooting star hellebores are my favorite. What else do you have planned for the new bed?

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому +1

      I agree Will - those Hellebores have far exceeded my (high) expectations! For the new bed, I’m moving some existing plants into it, like Lavender, Sedum, some Catmint, and maybe some of my Coneflowers. But I’m also hoping to add new plants too, with an El Nino Chitalpa shrub (from Proven Winners) that I hope to grow as a tree. I have a long list of plants I’m working through this weekend to figure out what I want to order. 😀 Are you planning to add new plants this year?

    • @willaerley7140

      @@GardenSanity Sounds nice! I picked up a bare root St Tropez rose for $10. Worth a shot. I also bought some asiatic lily and gladiolus bulbs. Usually reliable bloomers. My dahlias and zinnia seeds are ready to get started. I planted 250 tulips in a new bed out front. The bunnies have been nibbling as it’s hard to spray when it rains every day. Any ideas on what to plant after the tulips are done? Full sun. Probably non-perennials.

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому +1

      @willaerley7140 I’m completely scared of bare root plants because of my awful experience with the Redbud stick. I need to work up courage to try a bare root plant again. 🫣 What about your Zinnias where the Tulips are? They grow best in full sun. But if rabbits are an issue, maybe an annual like Lantana, which other than one year the rabbits haven’t touched since for me. Lantana and Zinnias won’t get going strong until the soil and temps warm up, but then should be nice. 🤞

    • @willaerley7140
      @willaerley7140 7 місяців тому +1

      @@GardenSanity Yeah, over half my bare root plants end up dying. Waste of money. Bare root roses are usually ok as long as they have thick stems. The spindly ones are weak or get eaten. I think David Austin roses are all sent bare root.

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому

      @willaerley7140 I know that bare root plants are cheaper to buy, but not if they don’t survive. ☹️ I’ll opt for the actual plants for a better success rate . . . and way less frustration and better garden sanity! 😀

    Hi Laura! Your garden is looking lovely, as always. We are also wet, still a bit cold, but that is par for the course here in the PNW. We also had a rare thunderstorm last week, even hail. Yikes!
    Too wet to plant, but not too wet to go nursery shopping! I have some new rhodies, a Korean Spice Viburnum, 'Blue Light' Clematis, and assorted others wating to go in!😅
    Hope things dry out soon for both of us!

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому

      Hi Susan! I’m not ready for hail yet! 😬 You’re right that plant shopping is still a great option when it’s too wet to garden. 👍 You bought some beautiful plants! I’m working through my long list of “plants I want” this weekend! 😃💰I don’t have any Clematis yet, and am trying to find a spot to plant at least one. 🤞 The Blue Light Clematis is a great choice! 💙

    My zone went up to 7 here in lower NY - did yours go up ? I’m tempted to get a dwarf purple daydream loropetulum - do I dare if ?

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому

      Hi Rosie - Mine is still between 7A and 7B, as I’m right on the coast, so not really much change, only slightly warmer. I tried a loropetulum years ago and unfortunately it didn’t survive the Winter. Maybe you’ll have better luck! 🤞

    • @Kylie4Queen
      @Kylie4Queen 7 місяців тому +1

      I live in NJ and my zone was 7a when I purchased a purple daydream loropetalum from HD online 3 years ago and planted it in Nov. I put it in the middle of a newer bed, with no protection from wind and it suffered. By spring time, there was a lot of dieback and I pruned it back. As the root system has developed it’s fared better each year, but I still get some dieback and it’s never bloomed. Still love it for its color, so I say go for it, but if you can put it in a protected space, you’ll give it a better chance. Good luck!

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому +1

      @Kylie4Queen Thanks for your advice Kylie! ❤️ I think it’s always worth trying, and it sounds like your loropetalum is getting better as it gets established. 🤞I wish we’d get more snow versus rain in Winter, as that would insulate the soil and not water-log the gardens. That’s what did my loropetalum in. ☹️

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  7 місяців тому +2

      🤣 Definitely not! 🤣 I never said my plants weren’t thriving, but I don’t like to crush plant roots with my feet when the beds are way too saturated. Several of these plants are shallow-rooted, as I’m sure you already know, and best practice is not to walk on top of wet beds. 👍 Can’t imagine rain for nearly 6 months! Hope you get sunshine soon! 🌞
