David gets it. Clematis look their best running through other shrubs and then blending into the background when not in bloom. I’d be interested in hearing how to transplant and divide a clematis. I have a beast one with dozens of vines that’s out of control.
Wow! David’s garden is fantastic! I think I’ve purchased six or seven clematis this year much to my husband’s dismay🤣 They are addictive! Thanks for the ideas about using wire, shrubs, and trees for support. If you guys don’t have clematis ‘Arabella’ you definitely should get it. I live in zone 7b/8 in Atlanta and it blooms all summer here! ‘Blue Boy’ is another favorite of mine!❤️
David: Do a You Tube channel, pls. You're handsome, well-spoken, passionate about your plants -- + you, better than anyone, know the best angle for each lovely lady or fine gentleman plant!! This tour was very, very well done -- but, she has to do her own, too! More for us if you each do a channel w fabulous content to nourish our souls + make our hands itch to get into the garden.
Uk zone 8 I just googled , it’s an American thing zoning system. I’m south coast UK , I have just started this last summer collecting and have 13 , great for small gardens . ❤ Here’s a tip ….. if it flowers before June don’t prune .
I'm so happy I stumbled on this video. David is officially a clematis "HOARDiculturist," lol. But seriously, it was so wonderful to see in a video some clematis vines that I've only seen in images (which are often insanely colored b/c of filters, ugh!) I think my favorite is Stand By Me. I also loved Tie Dye. I have to tell you about my current favorite, though: Gravetye Beauty. It is tulip shaped like Princess Diana or Princess Kate, and the color is... wow.. deep red/rose. Like velvet. SO swoon-worthy. The hummingbirds love it. Also, a woman named Erin who has a UA-cam channel called the Impatient Gardener says re: clematis, she doesn't think it's so much that clematis like shaded roots, as that it likes moisture. In her garden, plenty of moisture is what she focuses on, and not so much on whether the roots are in the shade. I can't wait to browse Brie's channel here and check out more of David's pics. Thank you!
Yes Erin is great, but she is in a much cooler climate compared to North Carolina. The soil in Wisconsin doesn’t get nearly as hot as it does here and she has a long period of cold chill that we do not experience.
Wow! David has the Midas touch when it comes to clematis! I have a small experiment going on in my yard with some very small clematis right now. I live in Southern CA, zone 10a. Several years ago I bought a marked down clematis from a local garden center. Then some other vining plants took over the trellis and I thought I had lost the plant. I pulled the other vines out and there was the clemetis putting out new growth! I have high hopes that it will thrive now that I’ve rediscovered it. 😊 And I just love the idea of using bonsai wire for the vine to climb on. It’s brilliant! 💡
I love clematis. My Guiding Promise had a spectacular spring flush. It has clematis wilt right after every year but I just prune it a bit and usually get more blooms later on. It’s in a container and though about moving it in-ground to see if it helps. Wondering how much pruning David does each year and if he follows the pruning guidelines for different types.
I live in zone 7b in Bethlehem GA . I have several clematis vines. I have one name "City of Leon" that I purchase from Walmart and it was just a little rinzome in the bulbs section. I think that this year is it's second blooming season and it is breathtakingly beautiful over flowing in blooms&bulbs. Most of the clematis vines that I have bloom during April and maybe a small flush of blooms in the fall once the temperatures drop.
Those are beautiful! I had been narrowing down my choices for the next variety to buy but, after seeing them in you video, I'm adding them back to the list. Thank you for sharing. Would love to see a video next spring of the first set of blooms, since he said they are bigger.
He’s a bit shady for passionflower, plus it’s a beast- native but quite advantageous. I haven’t seen any on his property but I’ll ask. They really can be quite aggressive so plant wisely.
Has David tried Avalanche, a white-blooming evergreen clematis? I saw one in a nursery a couple of years ago and it was beautiful, but pretty pricy. Just curious to know how it does in the garden.
Hey bri I saw your poppy seed harvesting video and I was wondering if you can still harvest the seeds if the pod is still green but you let it dry out?
At 18:30 with the blue light going through the JM, clematis henryii is also a good clematis to grow through a JM. Yes David should start a YT channel. Does he have any evergreen clematis?
Wow! I love the idea of allowing clematis to grow through shrubs and trees. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Yes! I first came across this idea from The Impatient Gardener and I’ve done it in my own garden and I am sold! It’s nearly effortless and so lovely.
David gets it. Clematis look their best running through other shrubs and then blending into the background when not in bloom. I’d be interested in hearing how to transplant and divide a clematis. I have a beast one with dozens of vines that’s out of control.
Ha, ha! Sounds like a dream come true!
Amazing devotion to clematis
very nice
So beautiful! I'm starting my first clematis this year. Let's goooooo!
Spectacular! We all benefit from David’s zeal in the garden. Just lovely!
Always a treat to see videos from David’s yarden.
Beautiful clematis, not only clematis, the rest of your garden also absolutely stunning! thanks for sharing, subscribed!

I’m going to make sure he sees this! I really need to go over to his garden again soon, but I agree, he needs his own channel!
Very beautiful garden.love the natural trellises
Wonderful tour ot these beautiful clematis .🌻🌺🌻
Really beautiful clematis! Love all them❤
Beautiful Clematis!!
Lovely! Just bought a Piilou. Nice to see one that’s mature!
I hope you are planning to go back to David’s for this years clematis tour!!
Yes wanna see how it looks this year.

@@BrieThePlantLady Yes, good point. So maybe in areas of the country with hotter summers, it would be important to shade clematis roots...
Yes David more from you would be great more care tips how do u not irrigate wow gorgeous
So beautiful!,

Elsa Spath is one of the best blue!
The flowers look like they're hovering in thin air several places, I'm curious how David avoids wind damage to the stems?
Beautiful. Wondering if David has ever tried adding a passionflower vine.
He’s a bit shady for passionflower, plus it’s a beast- native but quite advantageous. I haven’t seen any on his property but I’ll ask. They really can be quite aggressive so plant wisely.
Who doesn’t love a handsome plant expert?
My favorite clematis, I believe, is Josephine.
Has David tried Avalanche, a white-blooming evergreen clematis? I saw one in a nursery a couple of years ago and it was beautiful, but pretty pricy. Just curious to know how it does in the garden.
Ery very niceand beautiful flowering🎉🎉🎉
David, what size or type of bonsai wire do you use for your clematis?
Do you order your clematis or get them from a local source? I'm in eastern NC zone 8b... have a hard time finding them!
Do you know any varieties that do better in the shade?
I wonder with you love for clematis if you 're not interested in viticella variaties. We use them in Europe to climb in shurbs .
Great clematis if you could only pick a couple what would be some that bloom all summer
I just visited David yesterday. He says Josephine is the best.
Hey bri I saw your poppy seed harvesting video and I was wondering if you can still harvest the seeds if the pod is still green but you let it dry out?
No the seed will not be ripe if the pod is green. You have to wait until it dries out.
