Ive been working on a piece since December. Nearly there now. One of my family members saw it and was full of compliments but has left me with a coffee or tea stain on the unstitched aida. Aaah! Im praying i can wash it without unravelling my novice stitching.
Thank you so much for all of your tutorials. I am brand new to cross stiching and am going to work on a piece for my sister's baby since he is coming in July. Everything is very helpful so thank you very much :)
Thanks so much for making this video! Cross stitch is one of my go-to hobbies right now, and I previously was unaware of how to properly wash after completing. All the best to you and your loved ones
I am wondering if you rinse the piece in clean water after the soapy bath, or if you deliberately leave some of the bath residue to give the piece the bit of stiffness that you mention? And if you don’t rinse, does this leave the piece more likely to pick up dust or oils later?
I don’t put very much cleaning fluid into the bath so while there are a few bubbles, I quickly dunk the piece under the water to swill them off. You could always add another step of refilling a new bubble free bath. Not really, I don’t have any residue on the pieces I’ve washed. Thanks for watching!
Drain water and add clean water and repeat what she did. Then when you have rinsed put it on a clean towel and lay flat. You can roll it up in towel to dry some. Then you iron the back side.
Not with this piece, obviously, but I wonder about the colors running on a piece with darker thread. Do you notice red turning adjacent white stitches pink, for example? I am nervous about ruining all my hours of hard work by washing!
Carrye DeCrane I’ve used this method for all sorts of pieces with various colours. Maybe it depends on the brand of thread but the DMC rarely bleed in my experience. I think if you’re gentle there’s less chance of bleed.
It depends on your thread! If it is dmc or other color fast ones, it should be fine (And yes I realize I'm 4 years late, but in case anyone else is wondering)
Help….I have a heavily beaded Mirabilia Santa I’m terrified to wash. I presoaked all red threads but am still nervous as it is a beautiful piece that I would hate to ruin. How do you press with beads or do you?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I wouldn't like to advise on the washing however, in terms of ironing then I would iron on the reverse side with a pillowcase or towel over the top.
I am new to cross stitching and have started off by doing a cross stitch by number kind of thing. When it is complete, I am supposed to wash it to remove the printed design. Will I have to wash it more than what is done in this video?
What I was really hoping to find and cannot is how to wash mounted cross stitch that has been in it's frame for 15 years or more, and needs to be cleaned. I guess I'm going to have to take it completely apart and start it all over again and mount it when it is dry. There doesn't seem to be any info on how to do it in place, in the unglassed frame.
I do sometimes but on this occasion, I didn’t put very much cleaning fluid into the bath so while there are a few bubbles, I quickly dunk the piece under the water to swill them off. You could always add another step of refilling a new bubble free bath. Thanks for watching!

A gentle wash should be fine :)

You are very welcome! I hope your sister loves her gift!

Thank you :)
I just done my second piece... 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Took me few months to finish this one. But so satisfying.. 😉

You don't rinse it? Is there any soap residue?

I was wondering the same thing, I didn't see you rinse the fabric.
I’m not the creator but I use a detergent called “Eucalan” which is actually a no rinse wash so it’s nice and gentle but gets the job done!
I was wondering if you cross stitch on floral fabrics/fabric scraps then would you have to wash it the same way as you did in this video?
I would use this method for any fabric. But if it’s delicate and not that grubby you may prefer not to wash it at all.
What do you due for staining? I have accidentally gotten what appears to be mascara on one of mine. (Grr)
Hmm, I would apply some clear washing up liquid or baby bath directly onto the stain. Leave it on for a while then wash out.
I have a colorful piece that needs to cleaned. Have you experienced thread colors bleeding?
Nope, not with DMC threads.
Any tips for removing pencil marks? Thanks in advance!
Hmm, just some gentle hand soap and warm water?
Why do you not rinse the soapy water out of the fabric???

Came here for this comment!!! I just finished black thread on oatmeal cloth

Hi There, thank you for watching. You would need to refer to the designer. We do not print that pattern on to our fabric so can't advise on washing.
Is this the same process for printed patterns? Or should I wash it differently? I'm nervous about the ink on the fabric.
I put my colorful floss scraps in a cup of warm soapy water and the water stayed clear.

To ensure a proper clean you would be best to unmount, wash and remount.
Will this wash away a sharpie signature???
I'm not sure what a sharpie signature is I'm afraid. Is that a permanent marker pen?
Yes.
From my experience, if your soap is mild enough, it shouldn’t. Considering that a sharpie usually soaks itself into each fiber of your fabric.
@@mommalawral3747 Hmm, I'm not sure sorry. I don't think this would work on permanent marker.
No rinsing your piece?
Yes we would recommend rinsing :)
Why didn't you rinse the soap from the piece?
I do sometimes but on this occasion,
I didn’t put very much cleaning fluid into the bath so while there are a few bubbles, I quickly dunk the piece under the water to swill them off. You could always add another step of refilling a new bubble free bath. Thanks for watching!
Don’t you rinse?
Oops! I just saw the answer to my question about rinsing the soap away.
I noticed you did not rinse it?
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
At least run it under faucet water to rinse out any soap residue!!
Thank you for your feedback :)
