Great job Austin. I definitely think measuring the door surrounds and making your initial cut to those marks is the way to go. A lot less putting on/taking off of the canopy that way.
@@auburnaviator6167 thank you!! You’re right about that. Much better than cutting to the scribe location knowing that more would need to come off anyways
I used diamond grit oscillating blades and jig saw blade to cut the fiber fiberglass without spraying dust everywhere. Lots of control over the cuts and just vacuums up. The blades are a bit pricey but I've only needed one of each so far and I'm almost done with both doors and cabin top. I should really post some photos on vansairforce, it made it so much easier and I've not seen anyone else use them.
@@StewartAllen I used one of the jigsaw ones for the window cutout and really liked it. Should have used it for some of the other cuts too though. You’re right about the lack of dust!
I had an edge distance problem with my center brace as well. I haven’t drilled it yet cause I’m working on the doors as well presently and will get back to it. Vans said that adding some cloth and epoxy on the cabin top to gain some edge distance is exceptable. Look forward to watching your progress and seeing how you tackle it
@@williambeckert9057 it sounds like it’s a pretty widespread issue. Even looking at the factory RV-10 at Oshkosh and various other completed builds, I noticed the support bracket is generally pretty far forward with what looked like very little bite on those front two bolts going through the fiberglass. I think I’ll do something similar and just get it as far forward as possible. Edge distance in the steel part up front probably won’t be great but my understanding is that steel is more forgiving with that than aluminum

wowowowow I am so happy I didn't do a -10... I would need to try sooooo hard not to over-cut that roof.
Definitely the most stressful part of the build so far. Thankfully everything can be fixed with epoxy and patience if needed though 😅
lol dont cut in half
Ok, on a scale of 1 to 10 how rewarding was it to get that fiberglass-to-fuselage work done? 12.7? It's looking like an airplane!
@@JoshWelsh oh man. At least a 12.7! Really is neat to see it actually looking like an airplane
@@AustinManke Nice! I just completed my inventory on my -14 tail kit, so now my own build begins!
@ that’s exciting!! Enjoy the build! Planning on doing any build videos on UA-cam?
I know you mentioned this in a video, but what paint are you using on the interior?
@@buildingthe10 it’s rustoleum matte hammered black spray paint (300607)
