    You are the MVP for capturing this much on camera and for taking the time to edit it all! Especially during one of the most mentally exhausting parts of the build. Proud of you! Doors are looking great :)

      @@amandamanke411 you’re the MVP for preventing the great purge of footage and convincing me to keep editing it. Thanks for the support 😊

    Austin really enjoy watching you. I am a retired farmer and always thought I would love to build a plane. After watching you I am convinced that I couldn’t do it. As a farmer getting a bigger hammer is what my dad always taught me. But I am smart enough to know that my dad’s philosophy wouldn’t work here. Hoping I last long enough to see you flying your plane.

      @@berniebrown9115 Thanks for watching and sharing that, I really appreciate it! Building definitely has its challenges, but it sounds like your problem solving skills from farming would have served you well! There have definitely been times when the fix was a bigger hammer. Thanks for the comment and can’t wait for you to see it flying!

    I appreciate the level of detail you captured. I just picked up (secondhand) all 4 kits to build my RV-10. Between you and "Building the 10", I think I have a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done. It's been a joy watching your progress.
    Did you ever get your pilots license?

      @@Challenged1 thank you so much! How exciting! You’ll enjoy the build. I really like that channel as well. He does a great job packaging up the info in a clear and concise manner. And yes I did! I have my PPL. I am thinking I’ll go for my instrument rating sometime before build completion if I can. Thanks for the comment and for following along. Happy building!

    Damn dude, that hammer on the linear gear stock/rack made the cleanest cut I think I've ever seen a hammer make... Where did you get it? We all need a hammer like that in our toolboxes!

    Why did you decide to add a third latch to your doors. Do the doors not fit tightly or rattle in a stock RV-10? In hind sight, was it worth the extra effort? What other third party modifications are you making to your RV-10?

    • @AustinManke
      @AustinManke  Місяць тому

      @@345DF it needed some kind of a third latch for safety. My understanding is that in the first years of the RV-10, there were multiple occasions where a door was latched incorrectly, with the rear latch missing the hole, resulting in the door being ripped off at speed. Vans came out with a “safety latch”, which goes in the center of the door (where the PlaneAround latch is on mine), but the Van’s latch is pretty dang ugly and requires two hands to use when getting the door open. I think it was worth the extra effort.
      As fast as other third party modifications go, I have many and may miss some. Going from memory, I am going with:
      PlaneAround latch, Aerosport low profile handles, PlaneAround stainless steel door pins, Airflow Systems Air Conditioner, Airflow Systems 2007X Oil Cooler, AndAir Fuel Valve, Matco brakes, Aircraft Specialty braided fuel and brake lines, Cee Bailey windows (which I don’t have yet but would not corner myself into buying if I could do to again. Many reports of it not being worth the cost). I think that’s about it.
      And for avionics and other electrical I’m going with Advanced Flight Systems. They sell complete kits with wiring bundles and diagrams and everything needed to have a full IFR glass panel and all of the autopilot goodies and other accessories.

      @@AustinManke Thank you for the prompt and thorough reply. I find this stuff to be particularly interesting, and I think that it would make a good UA-cam video. There is a fair amount of info about building a stock Van's RV kit, but not much info on third party modifications. Have you ordered your engine yet? Thunderbolt? Fuel injection? Electronic ignition? Why the different oil cooler? What kind of landing lights did you use? LED? Zip-tips? Center console for the air conditioning? Are you familiar with the Garmin GHA15 Height Advisor? Is it worth it?

      @@345DF Those are all great questions! I am still in the decision phase for a lot of things but as I work through the build I'll be sure to address the modifications I am doing in my videos. Thanks for following along!
