I was brought up on Huddersfield Road good memories thank you for making and sharing this video x
Your welcome Emily 😁

good video!! i’m pat kelly’s granddaughter it was nice hearing things i didn’t know about the farmers boy even when i live in it bahah
Hi Hannah, thanks for watching. I know your dad as Leanne is my cousin. its nice to hear I have managed to tell you something you didn't know about your home x
I always look forward to your videos. So full of good local information and history.
I was in waterstones book store in the spindles at the weekend and i noticed a book in there of all the old pubs in oldham. It was really interesting.
Great video Sarah keep them coming. The windows of the farmers are original as you state. The latterns were put up last year xxx
I like them lanterns Leanne they look good xx
Terry, do you mean Billy Fury? Certainly do know the elder family. Used to ring them £1 pints in, so they could get cheap drinks after work. What was his Dad called? Lived near the shop on Littlemore? Was it Brian?
Littlemoor!!!
Brian Ravey do you mean?
@@SarahsUKGraveyard that's him. They were all related I believe.
Another Great video this was filmed when I was doing the police station and 3 other videos around the Foxdenton Area, You are always full of useful information and Knowledge which makes this videos so great to watch and learn the trade of UA-cam
Awww thanks for the compliment. Your videos are just as good if not better 😁
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Thanks so much I have got loads more new series planned behind the scenes including the phase-out of How It's Named, I hate pigeons to and I had about 10 of them in the Chapel Road Building and if you was there you would be out of there like lightening lol
Absolutely 😂😂 no way I'm hanging around to be near them 😁
Great video Sarah know this area very well some of us would have a beer in the bear on a Friday afternoon after work at the mill, back in the 80s some of the guys would be out almost every night and they would make plans at work (pre mobile phone days) to meet up, the hill was a night out in itself
It was 😁
@@SarahsUKGraveyard after this is all over we all have a duty to get out and support our local pubs & restaurants etc otherwise they will all disappear
Hi my names Tony Beswick I am the landlord of the last Orders. Its me you see in the window ha ha I remember you filming wondering what's going on. So you are correct it is getting a re name and refurb. But we got declined calling it the Conquered Bear so I tried to keep the name as original as what it was. It is getting a full refurb inside and out and will be called The bear on the hill. If you would like to do a video of the inside before the refurb just let me know thanks.
Hi Tony, thanks for commenting. That's brilliant I'm so happy you are refurbing and reopening. Yes I'd love to do a video. Feel free to email me at ukgraveyard@gmail.com and l give you my number we can set it up thanks 😁
Great video as usual Luv!!🤗
Thank you 😁
Cracking vid just round the corner from me.🙂
Glad you liked it 😁
Just a bit of information unrelated to pubs, but, just up the road from the junction pub. There was a recording studio in the 1970s. The band joy division recorded some of their music in there and they had band photos in the surrounding area. Unfortunately the studio isnt there anymore.
That's brilliant. Never knew that thank you xx
@SarahsUKGraveyard no problem. I think the studio was named pennine sound studio but later changed the name to mirage studio on Ripponden Road. It was in a old church but demolished in the 90s
Great video again. I spent many a weekend on the hill. Has tesco expanded? I caught a glimpse of it and it looked huge, I remember it being the size of when it was Hillards
Yes tesco massive two levels and vast. My mum used to work at hilards 😁
You walked past The Weavers Arms without a mention??
I was going to film it but the video was really long. I'll do it in another vpdep because I've got another hill video idea 😁
Hi Sarah hope your okay please can you do another video of glodwick
Sarah I intend on doing so. There's loads to talk about of bottom glodwick loads of facts to go at.
Farmers boy was called The New Thistle for a while, then Pat Kelly changed it back to Farmers Boy
Did he? Didn't know that. They must have put a sign over the farmers boy brickwork then 😁
@@SarahsUKGraveyard yea, a guy called Kim took it over, but pat still owned it. His partner was from Scotland and was bankrolling the venture. Hence the name The New Thistle. A mate of mine, John (ex landlord of The Globe), then took it over for a while. He's passed now too.
Was the man called Kim Wren by any chance?
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Not sure Sarah. Big Jolly bloke. A Brummy.
Ahhh right not the same bloke 😁
I used to go to Hill Stores dancing .
Did you ? How long ago ? Xx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Must be sixty years ago . Nice to see again .Thanks x
Susan I have pictures of what it was like with the band etc. I'll think on to do a shot video to show you and everyone xxx
I used to have The Footballers. Before it was closed. The traffic wardens used it in 2001, then it got demolished.
Really? I remember the footballers my uncle Terry used to drink in there I think years back. I bet you had your hands full running it, I heard it was quite a rowdy place. I do think I've been in though years back
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Yea, definitely. Made a few enemies. Sold everything £1 a pint. Was mobbed.!
Geoff I'm here in farmers with my uncle Brian Ravey he said he is sure he knows you said your in hollinwood ?
@@SarahsUKGraveyard he used to come in Footballers. £1 a pint. Say hi for me.
I was originally from Hollinwood, but left there many years ago and joined the Army. Was in 22 years.
I worked at barxlays the gate wasn't there then it got add when it got changed to a Chinese prior to barclays it was BMS and before that the midland bank
Think it changed to funnies after the conk.
I don't remember that. Could habe been though
Pat Kelly also still owned the Junction.
Need to pay avisit to the grapes in lees Sarah must be one of the oldest pubs in oldham built in the 1700s rumour has it dick Turpin used to call in for a beer on his way up to York still going strong the grapes,.
You know what I drove past with my mum a few week back and said we need to go in for a drink when it opens but your right it would make a brilliant video I'll defo put it on the list. Exciting fact about Turpin 😁
Curious to know Sarah which is the oldest pub in oldham then do a video on it great video stay safe x
Thanks. I'm going to make it my mission to find out 😁
@@SarahsUKGraveyard carl spiers will no ,mind off information that lad
I think it was a bank
As stated I was gazing at York Chamber for some reason on Friday , not actually knowing what I was looking for , and remembering there were some more chambers up where TJ Hughes and that food place is now .
If I’m not mistaken the upstairs were chambers for the solicitors .
The name of The Firm has slipped my memory for the moment .
If I’m not mistaken A branch of Bradford and Bingley was on the corner and may have later been a Britannia Building society .
And I think just facing where the smoke yard is was The Royal Bank Of Scotland .
Jeez I never knew the Town Hall was that big .
One if those passed it several times a day , knew it was there but never noticed it .
Took me back to hear Pat Kelly mentioned and brought a smile to my face .
We used to drive him around on taxis back in the day when we owned what is now skyline when we sold up 1986.
I lived facing Pat at scouthead when I was over the top of the post office .
I’d gaze out my window at night watching him talking to the chickens as he gathered them up and tucked them in bed .
He had an unruly peacock which took to hopping over the wall and settling down in the main road stopping all the traffic 🤣
Ooo
Something walked over my grave last night because I was really glued to your pub crawl 🤣
I moved from behind the carrion crow .
When you got to the farmers boy I was remembering the fire and thinking awww wasn’t that when Rory was taken with the smoke inhalation when the next words were a scream from yourself AAAAASAhhhhgh and Hi Rory . 😱😱😱
I can’t remember exactly when the fire was , over 20 years ago I’d say but it just goes to show how rumours spread .
At least that’s cleared up now and I can stop and not state wring information if I bump into any of the driver Pat round and knew him from failsworth 😇🙏🤙
Barkley bank
What we're you saying about the smut? The comment isn't displaying
