I was in the infants at Limeside School in 1952 and young viewers might be interested to know that at that time we all had a kip in the afternoon! Camp-type beds were set up and we all got our heads down for (I think) an hour after dinner-time and before the afternoon playtime! ADHD obviously hadn't been invented then!!!
Great film Sarah! I used to look at the clock on the cemetery when I was at work going up & down the stairs of the mill I would find myself looking at the clock face. Years later I found out that both my grandfather’s were cremated there, my father also now. Glyn

Great vid! The Cafe at 11.17 was 'Whites Farm’, with a W on the gate that used to be there. One of my direct relatives owned the farm (all moved from Swaledale in Northumberland back in 1800 and frozen stiff) selling the land that makes up Limeside from what was Roman Rd and Kaskenmoor School, Coal Pit Lane and up to Hollins Rd. Pretty much everyone I grew up with in the 1960s, whether they knew it or not, originated from Swaledale back in the day……and we were related to each other! Gradually moving down in family groups for work in the pits and cotton mills, from about 1870 onwards.The 'old estate’ which comprises the 'number avenues', was built in the 1920’s with most ‘Owdhamers' coming from around Falcon St area up in the town centre. The 'new estate' brought a lot on Mancs in too. Nuff sed :( Thanks for posting.

She may not remember me 'cos I mainly worked upstairs in general office with Pauline,but was also often in warehouse or on shop floor ,or on the tannoy! 🥰

I went to Limeside School and the exterior of the main building has hardly changed. There were huge mahogany doors at the front entrance where it says Girl (was Girls) and Infants. Looks like they have roller shutter doors on now. We used to go to Limeside Library which now looks to be the Elms Local shop you were talking about. Fascinating video which brings back many memories.
Tina in the comments one of the people who watch my channel said he saw a ghost of a man in the hallways and the ghost looked at him and then faded away into the wall behind. He said he was asked not to mention it so ad to not scare the children 😳

Another Amazing Video, if you have seen my video on Roman Road a few weeks ago, I found some old relics which would be right up the street, An Oldham Oasis Academy Sign still saying Roman Road Campus & Butterworth Lane Campus now both demolished, a disused school buses only bus stop still stating Oasis Academy and the Original School houses are still standing. If you ever want to do a video of that area for your channel I could provide you all the useful information as I attended the other school in the area so I know a lot of history of schools and surrounding area

Definitely Copy Nook. Guessing it was Werneth/Hollinwood sort of area. Also Great great Grandmother died at Cash Gate in 1859. Guessing the modern Cash Gate Court is where Cash Gate was. Thanks for your help

Maybe your mum might know someat? It's about the old St Peter's precinct,or Windy City,as we used to call it as kids. I was always told it was so windy there because there used to be a St Peter's church/graveyard there and either they dug up some of the graves an' moved them or they just built the precinct on top..obviously where Spindles now stands..Could just be old wives tale,I don't know? But I always hated walkin' through it as a kid,especially when I had to go every Saturday with me mum to the lecky board there! PS: Also used to hate the old toilets on the outdoor market because the smell in there was disgusting!!😜🤪🤮🤮
Hi Kristine I know all about it infact I've done a video on my channel but yes what happened was st Peters built late 1700s had a Graveyard when they wanted to build the shopping centre so the bit with tj Hughes in it they flattened the church and dug up the bodies sone were reburief in greenacres and hollinwood and the ones they couldn't match to a person they took to the tip. Yes the tip. Then they built the shooing centre and St Peters precinct. Spindles came in the 90s when at Peters precinct was demolished. St Peters precinct was designed by a man who lived in the Bahamas and didn't factor in the fact that oldham is high up and the result was a building that was constantly windy maybe it was made worse by the design 😁 hope that helps 👍
Shame you didn't show Holy Family church when you walked past it at the beginning of your video. It's been a part of many Limeside folks lives over the years.
No problem I'm going to do a part two as I couldn't cover it all so I'll put it in that video. Funny thing is I almost did show it. Churches are regular in my videos 😁
