So, knowing this was a scam, I decided to roll the dice and see what happens. I figured when it became clear it was a scam I could dispute the charge on my credit card. So far, I have been getting regular shipping updates... out of China. I paid 100 bucks for a "Taylor Custom All-Koa". I will update when whatever is being shipped arrives if anyone is interested
Check the weight and size of the package they are sending you. The post office can look this information up if there's a tracking number.
Many scammers will ship a tiny box with crap inside; once you accept the package they claim you received it.
If the weight or package size is way off it's an obvious scam and you can have the postoffice flag it and hold it at the postoffice for you.
Then mark refusal at the post office and you won't have any trouble filing a claim to get your money back.
If the package size and weight look legit and you flag it to be held at the post office you can then open it in the presence of a postal official to document any shady findings inside the box.
I hear ya. $140 is nothing. I can eat & drink that at lunch tomorrow, after tip
It may also be a fake tracking number. I reported to my bank and got my money back from a fake Zippo ad and the tracking number never worked and I never received anything.
You can use virtual card numbers that can't be reused. Provides protection from them trying to make more charges or sell your card info.
@@bebop425 I still like to use Paypal as my first order of defense. That keeps card numbers out of the scammers hands.
I reported an ad to Facebook selling ninety dollar Gibsons. Facebook said it didn’t violate any rules. Obvious scam and they don’t care. Gonna end FB soon.
The chibsons are more than that! 🤣

I deleted mine 4 years ago too, but created another just for Marketplace and nothing else.

Sam Ash closing sales are a joke. 5% discount and won’t budge on prices. I don’t know why I even wasted my time.
If they were really blowing stuff out and going out of business by a specific deadline, stuff would be reduced to dealer cost. I think they're closing brick and mortar and going 100% online. Their website and name are still worth something.
The store near me in FL was accepting offers on everything from nuts n bolts, ladders, carts , to the signs on the wall .
@@timothymeadows8326Dolphin Mall location in Miami?
@@TheGuitologistright. They aren’t going out of business. Just using the move to online for marketing.
I've been to the NYC store 4 times since they announced the closing.... so far, I bought a pair of sticks, and a drumhead....both were only 5 % off. Each week, the walls becoming more and more bare, but the deep discounts just weren't there. Their website was always just.... blah! Ash family left it that, never updating it, and thinking they shouldn't have to enter that market. Kinda sounds like the Tower Records situation all over again.
Long time ago I was at Montgomwry Wards it was going out of business. I was a kid. The prices were hardly discounted at all. I asked the salesman what was up.
He told me "They will get more money throwing it away with a tax write off."
So true? Back in 1987 I worked at Yamaha(Orange County, Southern California) setting up guitars. There were a ton of Yamaha Pacificas and other models that were being thrown into the industrial "compactor" rather than being fixed. Frets, fretboard etc....
I mean SO TRUE! Not "?" Sorry
People don’t understand tax writeoffs… plus if they sold something for $1 rather than putting it in the dumpster, the store would still “write off” the remaining value, but now they’d have $1 more cash.
What the real story is, is that a third party wholesaler will give them $x for the entire lot, and selling it in a single transaction at a discount is more profitable than paying stores to stay open - employee wages, overhead, rent, etc - and trying to sell the items at a higher price.
I hope there's a special place in Hell for scammers.
There is!
It's called Bangladesh

With prices like that they deserve to go out of business.
You understand that the prices are set by the manufacturers, right? Lol
You must be young and not understand how things work...

Yeah, right. Suuuure it is. Ol' Zuck laughs all the way to the bank at how many people he's suckered within his social experiment.
I worked in a music store that closed and they will stick it to you for the price right up to and including the last.
Sam Ash in my area was almost completely empty last weekend. Kind of sad times.
The world is awash with Scambags!... Trust nobody!
I was watching another channel where they were allowed to film inside the store. They mentioned the prices for new was only marked down 5%. Shortly after they said that they were told to shut the camera down. Lawyers probably got involved. Side note, I found a $400 Cordobo with the headstock snapped in a GC Dumpster. Luckily was a clean break. Glued it back together. Nice sounding guitar.
Even legitimate links on Facebook, I leave and go to the actual site to shop. Never through a link.
Awe man... I thought I was going to buy the whole store.🤣
Damn straight. They refuse to give any deals higher than 15%. They said this site is a scam site and warning people.
The Sam Ash employees lost all ability to make deals when the closing announcement was made 5/2/2024 when control was handed over to a liquidator. Not even the managers can deviate from the prices and discounts set by the liquidator. They've been unable to secure sufficient credit to stay open, so the original plan to only close underperforming stores changed to all stores closing.
The scam ads on FB only make the real Sam Ash look bad. I've reported them but nothing happened except I generally don't see them any more.
I always love your no bs attitude, there is nothing worse than being lied to!!😎
Sam Ash put a warning on their website about this scam. Good work Brad!

They will always introduce themselves as a Bill or John Smith or some made up American name. 😆
If it’s a scam 90 percent chance they are Indian
Yep, because the Nigerians aren't smart enough for this type of scam.
India and Nigeria are the low hanging fruit. Russia and China are more sophisticated. They'll just straight up hack you instead of just fooling you.
Don't count out the Nigerians!
i never had the thought but glad to hear and know you caught this
Casino Guitar's was live from the Raleigh location until they got shut down. They had a meager 5% off everything.
Casino? Dudes wrecked an upcoming channel when they went after Clapton. Idiots.
In the early 2000's I used to play paintball. Back then there was an auction site listing great prices on gear, but when you looked at the fine print the bid was for a link where to find the item, not the item itself.
The early days of the Sam Ash close out sale were timid, just 5%, maybe up to 20% off. But I can confirm the FINAL DAYS in NYC were the real deal. 90% off, and even more on the very last day (Yesterday). $200 to $300 top line hard shell genuine brand name guitars cases, $30 to $40.
I bought one. And came back over the last few days, and got even more super sayings. And the staff was very nice, right up to the last hour. Sorry to see them go!
First sight of this sight, I figured that this was a scam, no number to call or direct address tells me this is definitely a scam!
Scam Ash is absolutely Correct ✅
Thank you for bringing this up. I still currently work at a Sam Ash, and I log about 15-20 calls a day with customers asking if this is legit.
I'm glad you put this up I've been shopping Sam Ash since the 70's, I saw the scam website and had sense enough to call my local store in Carle Place NY and then i did a google search and found your video. Like you said no real savings on the actual site

Thank You Sir .
I reported one of these fake Sam Ash ads on Facebook also.
Thanks for the heads up. I was going to buy something from the website out of excitement but thankfully i held out. It did seem weird that all those high end guitars were going for so cheap...
The old saying “If it sounds too good to be true it probably is”!
This is the liquidator, not Sam Ash.
The days of good deals when a company goes out of business ended years ago.
100% this. The liquidation firm now controls the daily operations of Sam Ash locations. Discounts will increase over time. This is how it’s done.
I fell for it the first time.
Now I warn people that it's a scam.
Crappy deals and no way am I buying anything on their website unless it’s a steep discount.

I went by the Margate Florida Sam Ash Store and I saw no deals. They say they are doing the 5 % per week discount thing until they sell out. Good Luck !
Thanks Bread.
Thanks, man. They are announcing it on the official site now. Cool.
I fell for it last night. Fortunately, the connection with PayPal was questionable so I backed out. So glad I did…….✌🏼
That's such a shame! With all this family is going through already! The CEO, one of the Ash's, sent Phil a note that he shared saying how hard it is after all these years. When he said he was happy it happened now, after Sammy Sr. had passed so he never had to know about it, my eye leaked a little. This was the last big Mom and Pop music store in the country to go down. That's really sad! Thanks for pointing out the scam Brad!! Your so right, 8 something for a new LP?? Crazy!! Peace --gary
A couple weeks ago, i read an article that said Sam Ash was going to auction off all of there stock.
Got push back from FB for reporting the ads. So I reported the scam to Gibson. 😁
this is a great public service video. Thank you. It, once again, proves the old adage, If it’s too good to be true, it typically is
I once listened to a lecture from someone who deals with scammers, and he suggested they’re more sophisticated than you may think and will actually put mistakes into the ads to catch the people who are really vulnerable. So in this example, they don’t want to put the right MSRP in there, because if you know how much the guitar really costs you’re less likely to fall for it and you’ll do your checks. But if you think that Gibson Les Paul is $800 $900, you’re more likely to fall for it being $130 and therefore more interest to the scammer. It’s the same with emails with poor grammar, it’s not an accident. Apparently it’s a tactic that these people use.
I went to the store when this final sale just started and most of their guitars are gone. And I found weird that they only have a 5% off. You are right. I guess they picked up everything and sent them to their warehouse.
Thanks... I saw this this morning and knew right away something was WAY off on that shit site. It's like they didn't even try. $129 for anything and everything! 😂🤣😂😂
It’s ridiculous that some clowns can slap all that together… but you hire pro web people to build you a corporate site, and months and 30k later, they barely have anything done.
LOL everyone is fucked today. Insane world.
Thanks!
No problem!
I reported these ads to Facebook because I called sam ash and they told me it was a scam, Facebook come back telling me they didnt remove the ad.
I went to the local Sam Ash in Westminster, CA recently to see if there were any deals to be had. Aside from a few really nice acoustics they really weren’t offering much.
Amazon and ETSY both have scam ads. Sellers claim to have items cheap, and then never ship the goods.
I just saw a Facebook ad on this Sam Ash going out of business. Yea, take everything you see with a grain of salt. Stay vigilant.
We got furniture stores and others that use the going out of business banners but years go by and there still going out of business, funny how that can work sometimes.
And the very sad part is you can report this ad to Facebook over and over and over and they won’t do a damn thing about it…. People can get scammed out of money and report this to Facebook and you will eventually get a Facebook response of no action taken as this quote does not violate Facebook community standards”
Please document all of this with screenshots.
I think most the actual deals are going to be in store only. It’s also a process over a period of time while they get rid of inventory-they aren’t drastically reducing prices right away but I’m sure they will the closer it actually gets to them closing. They’re only starting out like 5% off then probably that will slowly increase over time. I bet by the time it gets to their final week will be the only time you might see heavy discounts like 40-50% off & by that time I’m sure all their good inventory will already be long gone.
I learned my lesson about purchasing from ads on FB thankfully the easy way. Ordered a baseball jersey for like $29 bucks and got something not worth $5, of course from China. Thanks Brad, because I could have assumed that site was Sam Ash, but I will admit the prices, even for a going out of business sale, would have had me scratching my head. A little higher and I could have fallen for it.
The King of Prussia and Philly stores had there last day today. I didn’t go. I just bought the Kramer Lzzy Hale sig Voyager. I’m tapped! 😀
Ive been keeping an eye on this. Nothing looks like its selling at all lol.
I went to the one in Dallas yesterday. Everything was marked down 90%………to full retail lol
I figured a Mexican Strat could be marked down to $130. It took five minutes with my credit card company to reverse the charge.
I saw that ad on FB. $129 for a Gibson Les Paul. I thought oh hell no. I went to real Sam Ash website and the MSRP on same guitar was $2999. Hilarious. These scammers are idiots. No one is going to believe those prices. They will send you a guitar that is a 3 inch Les Paul replica.
These outlets typically will already have pro liquidators that have already pretty much made a bid on everything that is worth taking risks on. It would be a better average return selling it off in bulk to a liquidator, than paying all of the ad and handling costs. That's why you only really find the more budget grade or unpopular products when the prices finally drop on the last 2-3 days. You know there is no way there was a mad rush that just happened to clear out all of the top grade products just in time at barely discounted prices.
Sam Ash isn’t going out of business. They are closing most of the stores and switching to online sales. Their website has always been behind competitors like Sweetwater.
I saw that yesterday as well. It was screaming "fake".
Been watching your videos for quite a while and just now found out you also live in Louisville. Small world
I can’t access Marketplace. Happened today . Said it was possibly because I live in a country where marketplace isn’t allowed , I’m not of age , ect .. none of which is true . Even the icon disappeared

so many places that have closed down in the past decade or more here in canada, have done the same thing. they have closing sales, and its not really a sale... its the same prices they had before... Canada is kinda bad for that. at least here in alberta.
They would rather let some liquidation company get it for a deal then the little guy…Quebec is just as bad and even Ontario, though they do have slightly more business sense here
@@mohamedtlass3842 ya man! That way they can avoid bankruptcy maybe? I was thinking of a bunch of IGA stores from 10 years ago, and even Zellers closed down. The sales were shit
Reminds me of the add on the back of comic books in the 70's selling a submarine .
Bought a set of Fishman Fluence Classic hums off Reverb through Sam Ash, claiming they were closing stores. Got a hell of a deal. Bought them, then the next morning got an email and an instant refund saying they hadn't updated their inventory and they were actually out of stock. Then they still had it listed for sale. 🤔 But I did get a refund, and then I made an offer to another company selling some, and got an equally good deal as the Scam Ash deal I was supposed to be getting. Oh well, I won't be shopping with Scam Ash after that. That was my first and last shopping experience with them.
Sam Ash knows the value of the gear. When all is done and they are done trying to milk what they can out of us through this non-event, some investor will come along and buy it all up in a single big purchase.
I knew something wasn't right about this ad.Thats how I found your video. They are now being advertised for $47.98. 🤦🏽♂️
Ive been seeing these on FACEBOOK. When I do see them I report them as scams!
I reported it TWICE!
I guess ripping people off doesn’t violate FB community standards.
Last year, I bought a cheap item off FB. I didn’t get anything like what I ordered, and my bank reversed the charge. It was only like 19 bucks.
Don’t ever, ever, buy anything via FB.
I just seen this today on FB.
It's rare to get a great deal on something like a guitar. Best deal I got from a closing music store was a guitar stand for $14.99, originally $24.99, I still have and use the stand 20+ years later.
Everyone says their online business/website was pretty weak, possibly the main contributor to them falling off. I'd agree, the site wasn't the best. Heavy duty shelving, displays/racks and the like, can be a good deal at a lot of these stores. My town had America's last K-mart. Finally closed last September. Lots of heavy duty shelving, racks, etc. For a good deal.
Or maybe because guitar music is on its last legs?
Thanks for sharing this! Unfortunately, I think that most of us (subscribers of this channel) would see that something isn't right, especially when we see the initial price of $800,70. The potential victims are our friends and family members who don't know how much a guitar costs, they see a price like 120 bucks for a nice looking guitar and decide to buy it for us for our birthday or Christmas or whatever.
I've seen a couple of comments here about someone reporting a Facebook ad that's clearly a scam but Facebook said it didn't violate their terms of service. The same thing happened to me. Maybe, if enough people tell Sam Ash (or whatever company name is being used to scam people) about it, _they_ might report it to Facebook and maybe then, Facebook will do something about it.
Like I said, *_we_* will most likely realise that it's a scam but it would break my heart if my brother or my mother would lose their money because they wanted to be kind and buy me a gift! So let's share this with them!
Thanks for warning ppl about this, kinda disappointing that I haven't seen anyone else talking about this. I noticed the msrp on some of that stuff too, pretty suspicious to say the least. Then again the $129 you were seeing was dropped down to $45 on the version I saw, they actually had a USA Core PRS Wood Library listed for 45 bucks, lmao. I knew there was no way this could be for real, but I went ahead called customer service at Sam Ash anyway and before I even finished my sentence or mentioned FB the guy was like "we don't advertise on FB." Definitely understandable, dude was probably getting a thousand calls about these bunk ads. I actually clicked on the page transparency section afterwards and sure enough it brought up a bunch of stuff written in the characters of a language from the Far East, lol. Doing an interview with a Sam Ash manager is great idea, btw. Gets my vote for sure.
Saw this ad and figured it was a scam but couldn't find a way to confirm other than common sense and knowing prices of equipment and checking prices on reputable sites.
800.7 is not a price you will ever see on any American website!
Oh I did, locked the card as well. Thanks though!
I bought my 1st Ibanez AS-50 Semi Hollowbody used at Sam Ash in NYC in the 1980's and it was awesome!
I knew it was a scam when I saw Gibson Les Paul ads going for 70% off lol!
When I went on to Sam Ash there were no real deals on anything except the outdated electronics no one wanted.
I'd be interested in the whereabout the fixtures are going
Weird how they've had almost non-existent Internet presence for the past 20years until this. Ive been having a feeling that its for marketing exposure for a minute now too
Time to do some dumpster diving at Sam Ash 🤘🤘
I have seen more than just ads for Sam Ash on Facebook and it's the same concept. They all sell Gibson's for ridiculously low prices. I appreciate you bringing this up especially to people that really don't know that much about new guitar prices. If these website would have been real I would have maxed out a credit card and then either kept or resold these guitar. You could make a fortune. Shame it's a Scam!!!!!!! There's a sucker born every minute but it's not me..............
Sam Ash sent me the wrong guitar a couple of years ago. I reached out to them to get it resolved and just got the runaround. A few days later I got an angry, somewhat threatening voicemail from none other than Sammy Ash, the owner saying they wouldn’t take the guitar back. Good riddance.
I reported about 20 scam posts on Instagram yesterday. And I’m sure they’re still posting today. Haha
Great public service, let everybody know. Having someone from Sam Ash on the channel would be cool.
Looks like I got scammed out of two purchases. I knew it was too good to be true, but I didn’t know any better. Sheesh…. I paid through PayPal, so maybe I’ll be ok. I was wondering why it was taking so long for them to show up. Jeez, I’m an idiot!
Ah. I think you're right.
When I first started looking at the guitars - new - sorted by price... I did see a new demo PRS SE Silver Sky show up briefly for under $200, but it sold within an hour or two... But at the same time, I've heard the stores are bare...
So that is probably it... Maybe anything unboxed in the stores got discounted and is gone... and anything in a box is still at market price and will get shipped somewhere... or returned... or??? I hadn't thought of that. (FWIW, my guitar center suddenly has the best inventory I've seen them carry... hmmm.)
Looks like most of the current "deals" are on their Michael Kelley brand, etc. Thanks for the video.
Good sh t brother
It would be great if Sam Ash filed a lawsuit against Facebook for allowing the ad to be posted.
