Depending on how tricky it is recompile and clean up a map for Go you can bring them back yourself. Don't wait for Valve, use the tools they give you to make the best version of CS you can think of!
Not just blahhhh, but also duhhhh, guhhhh, etc etc. Of course also maps like as_crazytasnks, Nipperhouse and on, I used to have a huge Nipper collection. And also all the fy maps. My favorite is fy_waterproof and fy_iceicebaby.
This really takes me back. Philip has a penchant for making me feel sadly nostalgic. I'd love to see another video like this but for maps for CS 1.6 and prior versions.
Watching this gave me a sort of weird nostalgia, especially when you said something along the lines of "The map itself would make all the players on leave their guns and just explore". And then it hit me, back then compared to now, we take these things so much for granted, not even paying much attention, but back then i remember nocliping everywhere for hours... ah well
Seeing some of the maps here made my eyes wet. Those bring back memories of the beautiful and glorious past of all my childhood friends going to a Cyber Cafe or gaming zone to LAN play all the fun maps here.
I remember, when I created my house for CS:Source, and imaginge some stuff around it to make it playable. And also made a big detailed map, 90% when I accidently deleted the files, and I was only able to recover a file where it was only 10% done...I coulnd't force myself to start it again, and the map only lives in my head :D
i'm still developing my own map, my goal is to make it have simplistic, yet beautiful textures and models, so it runs well and looks good at the same time, cs_italy (the best map in the entire franchise) is what i was drawn to. the props, the textures, and the theme is something that i wanna capture in my own map, just a bit prettier
Wow of all the things in the video the single moment that made me most nostalgic was when you died on that surf map and that third person camera tracking your ragdolling corpse showed.
Oh my god I've been playing cs_suburbs in Pavlov for the past week and I didn't put it together that it was the same map until now. My mind just blanked it, so many fond memories of that map.
"blahhh" feels like something you'd see after taking acid with 20 pills of Benadryl. Had a friend do that once (whom I had to babysit for the whole duration) and the crap he described fits exactly this aesthetic.
8:20 gave me an instant flashback of a CS:S edit from a long time ago where a few editors I was subscribed to used to fake frags against bots on maps as beautiful as this and to this day I didn't know the name of this map.. damn, the nostalgia hit me pretty hard.
Oh my god.. you won’t believe how long I have searched for de_wanda in the last maybe 8 years. It was by far the best looking source map. I remember being speechless after spawning on this map. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember the name of it and never found it again, so thank you 🙏🏼
I remember back then, all the community servers with very diverse gamemodes, deathrun, surf, minigames, courses, zombie gamemodes, jailbreak, trikz, bhop etc.. Now you boot up csgo and the server browser is buried in the menu, the servers for these gamemodes a handfull of them. Nostalgia hits hard. And every gamemode had some interesting maps, easter eggs and more, almost every map had such character and depth. Sad innit.
I'm Filipino and I played css 11 years ago when I was only 11 years old. Playing all the minigame, surf, and rat maps, as well as meeting all these american players (because there were 0 asia servers at the time) made me discover and understand american culture so much without me even realizing.
nippers maps are incredible, and there are so so many of them. used to play them all the time on funmaps servers. it's a shame the pub scene died because people are really missing out on what made counter-strike great.
I have a small story I can share. Back in 2005 it seemed like half of my school was playing CS. So one guy made a hostage map of our schoolbuilding. A few people played that map on a Lanparty and somehow one of the parents became aware of it being the schoolbuilding and the whole thing completely blew out of proportions. There were a bunch of sittings with parents and teachers and the guy who made the map got suspended from our school.
lovely to see all these super old maps that i'm sure most people (myself included) haven't heard of , and the story behind cs_suburbs is pretty cool as well
The Source Engine was magical at the time of its release. It was novel for me to see all those amazing graphics and community made maps combined together. This brought back memories. Thanks philip!
Thank you for that cool and atmospheric video :) It's very nostalgic for me, even though I never managed to play Counter Strike Source (and it's custom maps) until few months ago, but I felt the same when playing 1.6 in my early days. I still remember when I was 5 and played 1.6 at my uncle's. I remember walking around the good looking maps and trying to find easter eggs or new areas to play on, trying to get highscores when playing against bots on cs_assault.. I didn't have internet back then and playing against bots on vanilla maps was all I could do, but I enjoyed it. I didn't have any problem with playing 1.6 all day and I wish I could feel the same today..
I renember booting up cs_medridian back in 2012 maybe even earlier on Garry's Mod as a young kid making all kinds of scenes. Its almost like the earliest nostagia of the source engine. Beautiful video as always
I was watching the video and for all of it wondered "Im i the only one who loved and still loves "rats" maps". Im really happy that you still remember them.
Great nod to Nipper! He was one of my favorite mappers even back in 1.6. I can't believe you brought up David Firth though lol now I'm gonna have Salad Fingers nightmares...and after all that work with my therapist, too...
So great seeing all the maps I grew up playing TTT on during jr high. I feel like wanda was a suppressed memory and brought all my source nostalgia out when I saw it again. ty phlip
Never played CS Source but man, 1.6 had so many maps I can remember for this days. That one western map with jingle from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly 😩👌
My friends and I play the mp_sansaroom rats map in Cod4 to this day. We played GOB RATS in Cod2 as well. This started in the mid 2010s. These community maps live on longer than you'd think.
A great video documenting the golden age of map making! Thank you Phillip for this video, those times may be forever gone, but those of us around then remember them fondly and have a shared sort of brotherhood.
I'm still hunting for a certain OLD CSS map. Ircc the gamemode was called "monsters" or something. It was PvE gamemode, where the CTs fought wave after wave of AI controlled monsters. It also played unreal tournament kill streak announcements like "rampage". The map was at night in the city, and you could access the roof. I have asked the reddit community about this and no one remember this gamemode. I thought I may have misremembered a different game, but CSS was the only PC game that had in-game economy. I remember spamming the "b" key to give my teammates money. I remember being in a clan and our clan leader was named "stone".
One of those giant statues (specifically the grey one) in de_wanda is based on the massive "collosals/collosi" from a game called "Shadow of the Colossus"
CS_noir looks like a really atmospheric place to get nostalgic about. Maybe I'm a sucker for old, repeating thunder sounds but it only makes it MORE my territory.
Dude, please do more of these types of vids. Even if I can't relate with many of the experience, the nostalgia feeling is contagious. Feels so good to look bakc in time

You somehow always manage to make me feel nostalgic about things made before I was born and i have never seen before.
I hope one day Valve would bring back some of this maps in Csgo.
Operation throwback
@@bimmer8602 Yes! that would be great, especially for the return of mill.
Could you do this as a series please? This video was great and I've seen a lot of maps today that I am going to check out in game.
This really takes me back. Philip has a penchant for making me feel sadly nostalgic. I'd love to see another video like this but for maps for CS 1.6 and prior versions.
9:45, god I never played this map back in the day, but I swear I can smell it. Those of you who live/lived in a suburban neighborhood know what's up.
The classic 3kliks philip experience with digadig playing in the background! Those videos are the best you make
Watching this gave me a sort of weird nostalgia, especially when you said something along the lines of "The map itself would make all the players on leave their guns and just explore". And then it hit me, back then compared to now, we take these things so much for granted, not even paying much attention, but back then i remember nocliping everywhere for hours... ah well
Nipper's 1.6 maps are legendary, used to play them daily on a fun map server that was named "b0red" for years, that community was awesome!
Makes me feel so old that these maps were made before some of the current players were born haha
de_wanda's skybox and coast look a lot like the Azores in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Maybe it was a source of inspiration ?
Wow of all the things in the video the single moment that made me most nostalgic was when you died on that surf map and that third person camera tracking your ragdolling corpse showed.
I loved playing in Nipper’s maps in 1.6. It was made better especially with vehicles.
FUNC VEHICLE. Nipper is a cool guy and makes the best versatile maps out there.
7:08 I don't know why but that chat window jump scared me.
thank you for your uploads, just wanted to say :D
Oh my god I've been playing cs_suburbs in Pavlov for the past week and I didn't put it together that it was the same map until now. My mind just blanked it, so many fond memories of that map.
"blahhh" feels like something you'd see after taking acid with 20 pills of Benadryl. Had a friend do that once (whom I had to babysit for the whole duration) and the crap he described fits exactly this aesthetic.
8:20 gave me an instant flashback of a CS:S edit from a long time ago where a few editors I was subscribed to used to fake frags against bots on maps as beautiful as this and to this day I didn't know the name of this map.. damn, the nostalgia hit me pretty hard.
some maps are older than me
I loved the old orange maps, especially the really big ones. Most of my time in CSS was probably spent playing DM/TDM on them.
Nice video mate, yes i didnt watch the video yet.
Oh my god.. you won’t believe how long I have searched for de_wanda in the last maybe 8 years. It was by far the best looking source map. I remember being speechless after spawning on this map.
Unfortunately I couldn’t remember the name of it and never found it again, so thank you 🙏🏼
loving the new content
Suburbs takes me back to my gmod TTT days, taking the time to explore new maps and seeing what there was to see. What mischief you could cause...
8:28 Battle of the two collosal titans, colourised and preserved
I remember back then, all the community servers with very diverse gamemodes, deathrun, surf, minigames, courses, zombie gamemodes, jailbreak, trikz, bhop etc.. Now you boot up csgo and the server browser is buried in the menu, the servers for these gamemodes a handfull of them. Nostalgia hits hard. And every gamemode had some interesting maps, easter eggs and more, almost every map had such character and depth. Sad innit.
Pleeeaaaassee make a video about the de_rats maps :D
Damn, the memories!!
A moment lost to time. Watching this gave me a weird sense of nostalgia even though I didn't even start playing CS:GO until 2018.
i miss csgo aztec 😔
me too, they should bring it back, at least for casual
Wanda, mill, forest.. The memories these maps bring to me...
You do sponsorships so rarely that I was confused when my browser extension skipped it that I unskipped it to check if it actually was a sponsorship.
what extension do you have?
What? Show me this extension!
It's called SponsorBlock
@@walkblessed445 yep
i sent the link to their website but it probably got spam filtered
lovely to see all these super old maps that i'm sure most people (myself included) haven't heard of , and the story behind cs_suburbs is pretty cool as well
Where's aim_ak-colt? That was my favorite.
That's a map to train your aim which is not bad tbh.
The Source Engine was magical at the time of its release. It was novel for me to see all those amazing graphics and community made maps combined together. This brought back memories. Thanks philip!
Thank you for that cool and atmospheric video :)
It's very nostalgic for me, even though I never managed to play Counter Strike Source (and it's custom maps) until few months ago, but I felt the same when playing 1.6 in my early days.
I used to wander around cs_suburbs alone. I think back to it like its an actual physical place I visited.
Suburb is a classic! I recently discovered the map in GMod when on a TTT server. It's so wild to me how interesting and real that map feels
Dude, please do more of these types of vids. Even if I can't relate with many of the experience, the nostalgia feeling is contagious. Feels so good to look bakc in time
