Hi you! It looks like UA-cam is making it difficult for our viewers to find this episode, it's not showing up in search results etc.
Would you mind interacting with the video, and leave a comment so we know you did?
It's fun to watch a restoration from the very start like this. Thanks to June Harrison for supporting by financing not only by bringing an old wooden boat back to life but also by providing work for those who like nothing more than mucking about on boats in major wood-working ways of old and new.
We're so grateful to have these kinds of owners that are willing to save what's left of our nautical heritage. Glad to have you onboard!
Hi Robin :)
There are a lot of similarities between maritime words in English and Dutch. Kat in old Dutch maritime terms is a small anchor. And we also have the katbalk, translated : cat beam. Which is the same beam as mentioned here.
Is there any traces in the Dutch terminology as to why it’s associated with the word cat?
Very interesting witnessing the attempts to gather and restore a dying culture so rich with knowledge and lore.
@@FavouriteBoatworks Katrol means pulley, Katten means to hoist the anchor without hitting the hull . And more words like this. It’s not sure if that is actually connected to the animal. We have an etymological bank for all these words, very interesting but in Dutch..there are something like 1500 Dutch words in the English language, Al lot of them came from the maritime period in the 17th century.
well I guess this project will keep a lot of old men from getting into trouble. I was on the boat back in the early 80's and it was rotten then. I;m surprised it was still floating today. Good luck. I hope you are rich!
Thank you! The client is set on getting her rebuilt and the crew is delivering 💪
We love to watch rebuilds of these old ships. We have watched the Western Flyer and the Coastal Queen rebuilds. Looking forward to watch this project proceed.
Glad to have you onbard! It's going to be a rebuild to remember🔨
I think that copper sheathing below the waterline is why her hull is still sound despite the advanced decay everywhere else. What a boat!
There's a lot hiding underneath that sheathing, copper is soon coming off!
I just found you and have subscribed. I read somewhere that u-tube quit keeping track of the "likes" and were only monitoring the comments. Glad you caught this. Cheers, great videos.
Nice work! Amazed it made it out of the water in one piece
The hull is in better shape than first thought!
Super interesting video, looking forward to following this one. Let's hope your beautiful doggy doesn't get lead poisoning!
Glad to have you onboard!
Ha….just what I need…another long term sail boat rebuild……. Well I subscribed….
Glad to have you onboard 🫡
Keep'em coming ! Thank you
You bet!
Nice work all, its gonna be a big project. Looks like you will do her proud.
Thank you! 💪
Exciting stuff! So glad to have a new and interesting series to watch! The history of this boat is really interesting and different!
Great video pals! Fun to see you at work & keeping the dream alive :)
Fantastic journey - subscribed all the way from (relatively) landlocked Ontario!
You reached my youtube timeline😅 Subscribed. Goodluck from The Netherlands

Glad to have you onboard!
This is the uphill part but the crew seems up to the climb!
The crew is ready 💪
Hope you converted all that copper into beer..... top work.... greetings from a boat in New Zealand!
Great vid thanks guys I saw this ship around 1988 1990 on the west coast
Thank you! Where on the coast did you see her?
Hi I saw her at Fishermans wharf in Victoria she was tied off from the stern to land and an anchor out in front next to the wharfs. I believe she was painted white then? I never forgot her as she was a big ship and Herchel Island was written I guess beside or under North Star, just a ship I never forgot I could be off a bit with the dates that I saw her but in the late 80s or early 90s@@FavouriteBoatworks
@@jetson328 Yes she was painted white before! Have you watched episode 1? Lots of historical photos in that episode of her as she changed throughout the years.
@@FavouriteBoatworks yes thanks I have watched them all so far. How long do you anticipate the restoration will take about 2 years?
Yes around 1.5 - 2 years should have her completed and back in the water@@jetson328
Great work Favourite Boatworks!
👍!!!
😎
Been a long week waiting for those 10 minutes🙏 Loved the guitar, glad to hear it being a part of the restoration
More will come 😃
Looks like that is going to be a very huge project the more you dig into it. Were these issues known when you bought her?
Old ship that hasn't had any major repairs done in a very long time, she was due for a refit.
Good lord, is it really worth it to renovate this beast? The deck, engine room and so much more seems like you will have to rebuild from scratch......It will be interesting to see what kind of shape the hull is in.
It’s more of a rebuild than a renovation at the state she’s in.
Is the plans for the Northstar to rebuild it as a museum ship or to bring it back to its former glory to be used ?
The owner has plans to sail North Star again and likely at a later date donate the ship to the BC maritime museum.
UA-cam's stupid rules could mean having the radio/music playing in the backgound as being a violation. You might need to check. Otherwise great content!!
Thank you for your concern! UA-cam scans the videos on upload for any copyright infringement, it should be in the clear!
I don't think it's stupid. The musicians needs to be paid for the royalties. Instead of UA-cam creators playing music and not paying royalties.
Many creators don't allow their videos to be used by others. It's no different.
Suppose you created something and it Took off. Would you cry Foul?
Where can I find a link to your patreon……? ;)

Great update ,thank U. love the " science with Mitch " segments ,i hope they stay as a regular source of info
😃
floors?
Is it worth it
Is preserving history worth it? Yes. What else do we learn from?
Karen - head honcho 😍
Better to scrap it and build a replica. Take a look at Tally Ho That is not the same boat, a complete rebuild and more.
But then she wouldn’t be saved and able to live on for another 88 years
