I JUST googled this question two days ago & got a whole mess of results. This is so nice to have all the recommendations in one place! Thanks as always
I'm so glad it's helpful!!!!
so helpful! we're doing acrylic placecards for our wedding and I've been searching for the right pen to use. this was so comprehensive and now I know which pen to get with confidence. thank you!
Super helpful! Thank you for taking the time to break down each of these pens and the removal process. :)
Well, being a beginner I didn't knew there was so much about the acrylic frames and the pens... but glad I came across your channel and found it... This video is my saviour✌❤
This was the BEST video!!! Your explanation of everything was perfect!!! I’ve been wanting to know exactly everything you explained in this video… THANK YOU SO MUCH!🙌🏼👏🏼
This video was absolute perfect timing! I just sat down with my first piece of acrylic for a client and was curious about what pen to use when I had an alert for this tutorial!
Thanks so much Becca, you saved the day!
I love how things work out like that sometimes!!!
This video is so informative and awesome. Exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks for sharing!
Great information on acrylic, writing implements & removal from start to finish. So grateful for this comparison. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
So happy to help Maria!
Thank you for explaining the difference in each pen. I wanted to try and make a sign and didn't know which one to use. It was very helpful. And thank you for the suggestion of how to write on the acrylic using a guide sheet
It was really helpful for beginners calligrapher like me thanks.
Thank you for the awesome advices. I’ll be doing my sister’s wedding signs and this was very helpful.
YAY so glad to help Diana!
Thanks once again Becca helpful resources and love sharpie markers!
It's my pleasure Delon!
Thank you! Love the tip to use the eco-friendly coconut oil, brilliant.
It definitely takes a bit more effort but you can make it work! I've heard of people using olive oil, too, or dish soap (though that one's not very eco friendly!)
I used purel or any alcohol hand sanitizer to erased water based and is great because you can target a small areas :)
Very detailed!
Thank you. 😊
You just got a new subscriber. 🥰
Very informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much. This was very useful. ☺️
Really reaaaly helpful! Thank you!!!
This was super duper helpful!!!
Much much much needed video
This is fantastic
Very helpful 👍
Thanks🌸🌸
Super helpful thank you😭😘
Loved this pen comparison! Thanks for this 💗 I was wondering though, if I wanted to make this as a permanent decor for my own room, how long would it last? I've researched and seen that oil based markers are permanent but I have trust issues because they're mainly used temporarily only for events. Hope I could get an answer from you! ☺️
Helpful. Thanks.
Do you use fine tip?? Or a medium tip? Thank you so much for the help! I am going to try to tackle making my own logo on acrylic to display!
Thank you so much for this video. It is incredibly helpful! I am planning to make a wedding sign using the Molotow Acrylic Markers. How much time in advance could I get away with making the sign? I wanna make it as early as possible, but I don't want it to get ruined somehow by the time the event comes around. I have ZERO experience with acrylic and caligraphy so I was hoping you could let me know how early is too early. Thank you!
Thank you for the video! Do you know if these markers have the same outcome on glass?
I use hand sanitizer to remove oil based sharpie paint on glass and acrylic. Not as toxic as acetone but the drawback is that it’s messy and will probably require a second round of cleaning to get it all done.
What sharpie paint pen would you recommend for an acrylic painted canvas?
You are so adorable!
Rubbing acrylic with dry (or even wet) paper towel will put micro-scratches in the acrylic. Over time, this will make the acrylic cloudy. It can also cause more noticeable scratches depending on the brand of paper towels (some are quite abrasive). I would recommend an old t-shirt or something like that.
I guess I must be using smooth paper towel, I've never noticed that! I do use microfibre towels sometimes, too, but love the tshirt recommendation!
@@TheHappyEverCrafter It's not likely that most would see it with occasional use, but depending on the toweling and how many mistakes one makes, it could happen. LOL We had an acrylic fish tank for awhile, and it definitely became noticeable after a few months of ownership.
Thanks for all of the great content! I'm really learning a lot and you're a very good teacher.
Thank you!!!
What kind of sealant spray can I use when doing calligraphy on acrylic?
Can you recommend color pens that may come out bright and nice
I would use a flannel or soft cloth since paper towels made with wood pulp will eventually scratch the plastic.
this is so helpful thank you! I was wondering if you can use any type of paint for the back of the sign. I have a client that wants a flat gold with no streaks so i thought of using spray paint. Any experience using this instead of a paint brush?
Hi from Malaysia! Ist okay to coat/layer varnish or mod podge on top of the oil base/arcylic pen? Did you try before?
I used acetone and it made the glass foggy/damaged it. Anyone know why?
If I use posca, should I seal it with mod podge or UV resin?? Or is it not necessary as it wouldn’t come off that easily?
Hi! I just found you page. Any tips on how to remove acrylic paint on the acrylic once it's been painted?
What about paints ... do you have a prefer brand for background colors in acrylic signs?
Idk if it helps but I just made one not too long ago and just used the cheap acrylic walmart paint, like apple barrel, or whatever it is. It worked perfectly!
thank you for this explination, I am so glad =) also you're really cute
Intrigued by the idea of these signs, but have never seen one. How are they displayed? Propped up against something? Hung on a wall like a picture? Free-hanging? And displayed against a solid background, or not? Are the white letters ever shadowed with black or gray? Thanks!
Can I use an oil based sharpie on acrylic with a Cricut? Like it write for me? Or would that smudge?
Thanks for sharing this. Can you tell me what marker in gold shows a richer look? I make wedding signs and want to find this gold writing pen thanks
I was looking at tiktok and saw a calligrapher used, what I think was a poly seal on the back of her sign--the side with the paint. I'm not sure if she did the front or not because it wasn't in the video AND because she makes all her signs with vinyl. I'm curious if anyone has before or always uses a poly seal for their signs & if so, is it okay to use with oil based sharpies and paint pens?
Hi,
I bought Sharpie oil based gold metallic paint pens in extra fine for my first acrylic project, and I'm finding that the paint sort of bleeds a little, which is making it difficult to get those delicate lines on my calligraphy. I'm using 3" acrylic hexagons to do names, so I don't think going up to a fine point will be possible. It doesn't look like that happens when you're writing here. Is it an issue with metallic ink? Is there a way to sort of prep the surface to prevent this from happening?
Thanks for your help!
I’ve had problems with the extra fine paint pens. The ink doesn’t come out very well for me. I know you said you’re unsure about the fine tip but I like those better! I’ve used them on 3 inch discs
Hi great video, do you have any suggestions for which pen to use over imitation gold leaf at all please?? TIA x
Can you tell from where we can get that
Flexi glass sheets ??
I'd like to use this to do place cards on acrylic plastic. Is there something you could recommend to "seal" the pieces after the writing is done?
I'm trying to figure out the same thing
You should try eucalyptus oil for the oil and acrylic
Like I'm a very big fan of u......and I like all ur videos and ofcourse I have subscribed to your channel..........but! Your recommendations are amazing!!!..........if I really tell u my dream then if I could meet u.......thanks for inspiring me tysm what can I do for Becca ? I'm a big fan , again thank u for Becca for inspiring me and all your efforts
Would rubbing alcohol work to remove sharpie marker off acrylic?
What brand is used to best seal chalk marker permanently on acrylic ornament?
What type of erasable markers are good for acrylic clear boards? I’ve tried so many and they don’t work!
Tell me the name of the white pencil u used for outline
Thanks. This was just what I needed. It looks like I need an oil-based marker for the most permanent results. BUT how come you have perfect skin? Is it camera trickery or what?
What would I use if I want it to be permanent forever?
Hey Becca, do you have a pen recommendation for metallic lettering on acrylic?
You can find all of my supply recommendations here: www.thehappyevercrafter.com/supplies/ :)
I know that rubbing alcohol will take them off also, I don’t know how good it is for the acrylic though.
You can polish your acrilic with powder and a cotton
Is it normal for my molotow pen to smudge when I’m wiping with windex?? I ruined a sign because I was trying to clean it😢
Is it possible to make the acrylic lettered sign waterproof?
The oil & acrylic paint pens are waterproof!
I used acetone on acrylic from Home Depot once & it destroyed it! I’m about to start signage for a wedding and I’m hoping that won’t happen again. 🤞🏽
I just made this mistake the other day and realized that i had bought polycarbonate instead of acrylic. Online says they're the same except the fact that polycarbonate is like 250 times stronger than acrylic. Make sure when you buy from home depot or lowes that you're buying acrylic and not poly. Sometimes they'll put them in the same slot and you'll just think it's the same thing but different brand (like i did). I was slightly panicked.
You can actually use newspaper instead of paper towel to avoid the little paper dust that grabs on to the glass and the risk of scratching it:)
Ouuu good to know!!
Hey - how about writing a quote with a fog theme on your "foggy" acrylic? Maybe save it that way? :)
What a creative idea! Or it could be "morning mist" before the sunrise.
What about alcohol,at least 90%? It removes both markers from other sufaces. I use a small mist sprayer then wipe, also you use a paper towel or microfiber cloth damprned with it..
Would rubbing alcohol work on the oil/acrylic or would it ruin the plexiglass?
JMLawhead that is what I use! And works exactly as acetone
Monika Cieslik thank you!
I’ve used rubbing alcohol for all of mine and they work just fine.
I think we can remove the oil and acrylic pens with dish soap?
abha priyaroop I’ve never tried that! I’ll have to try!
Can China Marker also scratch the surface?
I’m just wondering if the acrylic or oil paint is waterproof?
Maryam Nour yup! Both would be.
Thank you so much!!
I used acetone to rub off a mistake on my acrylic sheet and it completely ruined the acrylic!
why not a razor blade one-sided to get anything off glass cost like a dollar a box u can get a handle for it or get one from lowes with a handle ask someone from the painting section skip all the chemicals ... painters use it after maybe painting around glass if they get paint on a window the clean it up with a razor quickly ... also people who use glass as their palette they use to remove acrylic paint that never wants to come off after leaving it on too long.
Use alcohol on oil and acrylic markers.
Removing the 'oil' paint pen with 'oil' will require more elbow 'grease'. Get it ?? Oil, grease!!
Be careful using acetone on your acrylic!!! I just did after watching this video and it instantly clouded up the acrylic sign and it looks terrible. Just make sure to test a small area first if you’re going to try it
While there's a lot of helpful information here, there's so much talking! I skipped through half of this video to get to what you were actually doing.
It’s pronounced moll ah tav
