Considering that thing is a frigate that managed to get a large portion of a assault carrier's entire shield to react I would say it is very powerful.
This is post war, most UNSC ships have been redesigned and fitted with forerunner/covenant reversed engineered technology. So I'd imagine that hit the assault carrier pretty hard.
Let's not forget it was UNSC frigate's MAC gun and the ship it was shooting was the Covenant's CAS-Class assault carrier. UNSC needs Infinity-class Warship to bring that thing down. CAS-Class assault carriers are one of the strongest ships the Covenant Empire had and UNSC had to send at least 5 or more of their heavy cruisers to fight it. Which was one of the reason why Atriox was so hellbent on recruiting Let 'Volir. Let'Volir was shipmaster of Enduring Conviction, CAS-class assault carrier and has crew of thousands of Veteran Sangheili warriors and considered as one of the most powerful asset Atriox acquired and Enduring Conviction was flagship of the Banished. Even at Halo Wars 2's Second Ark Conflict, UNSC Spirit of Fire wouldn't dare to fight Enduring Conviction head on and had to send Jerome and Isabel to sabotage the ship's weapon control to agitate the Ark's hoards of Sentinels to take it down.

For those who says that MAC Cannon shouldn't be there, this isn't a known friggate desing, this is a new class that doesn't uses a MAC gun but a directed energy weapon bassed on the Hannibal tech design, that's not a MAC it's a Energy Projector

@@tyhgaming2004 They both use electromagnetism yeah but a MAC uses a coil to push a projectile whilst a rail gun uses 2 rails, so they have differences

So for those who don't know this is the Muslane (correct me if I misspelled it) class frigate. It's way smaller then any frigates before it. It uses a Brightlance laser as it's main gun rather then a MAC. It is more compact then previous designs which were extremely vulnerable to things like their engines getting cut off or their bridges being more vulnerable then even star trek federation ship bridges.

Way smaller? So correct me is I'm wrong but I thought frigates like the stalwart or paris or charon, typically could be one shot by a plasma torpedo, if this is smaller than its doomed

I believe this to be a NEW Frigate Design since it looks nothing similar like the previous Paris-Class, Charon-Class, or Stalwart-Class
Not to mention this Frigate uses a Plasma MAC Cannon while Pre-War UNSC Macs were Kinetic Weapons

@@pyrogothica3906 Its definetly a newer design. The MAC guns on the original frigates resided within the “top fork” but this one fires in between the forks.
Also the engines are placed closer to the center of the ship which actually makes structural sense. The “wings” act more like port and starboard side external shielding for the engines.
I actually like this design way better than 343 previous iterations. Dare I say this to be an improvement over the Bungie era frigates.

The Assault Carrier isnt engaging the Frigate due to its location. The area the Panama is holding position over is important to The Banished. I forget the exact thing they want that the Panama is hovering over, but the reason they aren blasting the Panama out of the sky is they dont want to damage what its holding position above, as debris and the wreck of the Frigate would surely damage or even destroy whatever it is they want.
Basically, the Assault Carrier and the Frigate are locked in a Stalemate. The Frigate isn able to do critical damage to the Carrier on its own, and the Assault Carrier doesnt wan to damage the Facility its above.
I don't think It's a MAC, it's more like a beam weapon, maybe a reverse engineered covenant plasma projector

There should be a delay due to the speed of sound. It would make it even more dramatic.
What's weird is that no other UNSC vessel including the Infinity doesn't have this armament. One on the Infinity Punic Epoch Orion Valiant Marathon or Autumn oy yeah and the Vindication class will be a tad bit more powerful

This could also be experimental design only recently applied, I'd call it a frigate design based on the paris,stalwart,charon classes experimenting with a focused energy beam in place of a mac, and for all we know this IS a mac round being enhanced by forerunner technology
But they can goofy money on a suit of armor that cost the same as a whole ship(makes no sense at all) so it would surmise that a bigger vessel should have been built and equipped with that weapon (at least Cruiser size or a new type of ship design, Dreadnought) having at least several classes as experimental platforms to test how the different sizes of the weapon perform. It's just funny how backwards 343 is in regards to the vast amount of material found within the HU to use expand on and create.
True only anlace frigates and this type of frigate use laser weapons. Interesting though the unsc isn't using any other type of beam other then lasers.
@bennuresnow respectfully, you don't want to create several sizes of the weapon for testing on one go. You want to have a single example being tested at once, to limit variables when judging for performance.
If the frigate showed success with it? Then up scale it to potentially be on things like Infinity. But you don't want to test it on something big first. Costs too much.
There's some genuine criticisms for 343, but this isn't one of them. This is the correct idea.

343 had energy weapon sounds right in Halo 4, and ever since Halo 5 they've gotten it wrong. I HATE the fantasy "pew" stuff. It makes no sense.

Highly doubt it. The MAC is still the most powerfu kinetic weapon the UNSC has in its arsenal, not to mention it can crack shields more easily
No just different. Energy weapons do a better job at destroying shields so that's why they are putting lasers on the unsc ships. Laser weapons have always been available to Humans but they never really put it on there ships except for the unsc prowlers during the war

That assault carrier may not be damaged, but if a few other frigates fired their lasers or macs, then it’s shields would fall and it would be vulnerable to nukes and air forces

It is if the ship in question is a Paris class (HALO: REACH) or a Charron class (HALO 3) or a Stalwart class (Halo 2) since this ship appear to be a Refit or a upgrade of a Paris maybe it has a new mac (or maybe 343 just redid the new frigate class from halo 4 (strident?) since it look and sond beefier than the frigate macs from previeus games

It's probably not an energy beam but a MAC accurately portrayed. In reality, a MAC whether in atmosphere or space would look more like a laser beam than a projectile due to the heat of the projectile and the electricity. This is probably 343i putting in some research, not a Directed Energy Weapon. Most likely, the shot comes from the center because this is a rail gun instead of the usual coil gun used by UNSC MACs. That's what it looks like to me. Perhaps using technology inspired by energy shields. On the otherhand, it doesn't sound like a projectile at all. And that field between the prongs looks a *lot* like the energy field between the prongs of a Spirit dropship and the light at the back appears to be growing during the charge up. So, it could be a compressed ball of plasma and the system might be a hybrid of plasma cannon and particle accelerator.

considering its hovering in orbit it kinda has to use up alot energy to keep itself there since in halo alot of ships need something else to keep them still, like how a pelican needs its multiple thrusters or else its just a flying death trap
