As a black guitarists in my 60's I'm a terror when it comes to lead guitar. But without Hendrix I'd been lost.. But THANKFULLY ERNIE showed my the way to work up to Jimi and beyond.. He's so under rated it's a sin and a crime.. I'll pick up my axe and fight like a farmer to back Earnie up.. He was ALWAYS THERE... 👊🏾😔🎸

Shout out and mad respect to Vernon Reid for giving Ernie Isley the acknowledgment he is due. I will join his followers because without his unique rock guitar sound the music of the Isley Brothers, Black R&B music *( and others) just wouldn't be the same.

It’s criminal that Ernie doesn’t get the love he deserves. Easily top three to do it and the standard on R&B guitar (hell most pop tunes too) since like 1970

Mr. Isley should not need any introduction. His Resume speaks for itself. Isley Bros, Isley Jasper Isley, His Solo Album High Wire is still played in my rotation. I'm waiting for The next Album. Great Humble man.

I'm just a wannabe guitar player who's been playing for over 50 years now, and I grew up on Ernie, Hendrix, Hazel, and many others. It does suck that Ernie is often overlooked, but us Oldschool guitar guys and music lovers know exactly who he is and greatly appreciate scope of his work and influence. I've been to dozens of IB concerts since the 70's and all you have to do is look at the demographics of the audience. Old, young, black, and white turn out to see Ernie play. The fans know the deal.
It's a shame that Ernie isnt recognized by the "establishment" but I can name dozens of other top notch guitar slingers who find themselves in the same predicament. I dont lend a lot of validity or credibility to these "Best of, or Top 100 lists" at all. Many times, they are just popularity contests anyway...

I always thought he didn't get his props because he wasn't a solo artist. Santana, Jimi Hendrix etc, had solo career but Ernie doesn't. He did one album "High Wire" but didn't follow it up with anything else. I think he's been too dependent on the Brothers instead of himself. I wish he would concentrate on his own solo career because he is fantastic musician and song writer!

  • @timothylawson3262

I always thought he didn't get his just do because he was a black guitar player playing a rock style, and they wanted to keep that to themselves.

Could be true but Jimi Hendrix got his credit so maybe they figured they met their quota 😂

@@camshotteaYeah that's right. The Isley Brothers played some funky soul music but they also played a little soft rock styles by artist like Jackson Browne and a soulful cover version of a Todd Rundren song. Ernie would play blistering lead solos and him and his brothers had all the ingredients in their music for a solid crossover in different demographics. Yeah, a lack of promotion to the (white) demographic and probably some jealousy and hateration from said demographic, just the usual shenanigans, practicing what they do, ie: the big R word .

Yeah him and his bros forgot where they came from, since they made it they never came back to Lincoln Heights, not even for a free concert which many ohio artist used to do in the 70's.
