Detangling each twist as you take them down and before shampooing would have been more manageable. I can't wash my hair in this big sections, its a no no for me even if I leave my style for 1week.

Bless you! 🌺 Weekly washing with two small ones is not realistic, especially with a lot of hair. I’m speaking from experience with two small children myself. What’s going to help you is to pivot…you cannot do what you’ve always done. Your hair will adjust to a new routine and it will not fall out. 😅 With the twists You ended up with in this video, keep those sections and work in them constantly. Finger Detangle with oil before you wash, wash and condition in those twists, and style using those twists. What helps is when you work in small sections, you’re able to start and stop much easier, and you can attend to your children as needed. Hope that helps a bit. 🌺🥰

This is indeed the best advice ,i also tried it and proven to be worthy 👏 my daughter's hair is also long as this length(waist) and I wash it once a month . Finger detangling with oil has been a game changer and I don't even know what's matted hair, even the hair loss is not as much. The oil really works wonders and I actually noticed with the comb after washing she used to loose a lot of hair but not anymore with finger detangling with oil. 😊

I totally agree! Permanent or semipermanent parts work best when you don't have a lot of time to dedicate to your hair. This has worked for me for years. It allows you to detangle and redo 1 twist at a time whenever you can so you won't feel the pressure and the anxiety of having to section again and do a full head of hair at once. It's important to avoid feeling overwhelmed when doing your hair. As long as you don't twist too tight at the roots, you'll be fine with permanent parts. As mentioned in other comments, when taking down a long term protective style, to avoid matting the hair further you must detangle first before shampooing and oil is great for that. Hair doesn't have to be dripping with oil for this to work. Sometimes just coating your hands with oil before working the twist will suffice. Another thing that works for me is to lightly spray the twist with warm water before applying the oil. However this step is not needed if I kept my hair moisturized while in protective style. Working in sections from beginning to end along with permanent parts will save you time and help you keep your sanity lol. Thanks for sharing this because people wish for long hair but sometimes fail to realize how challenging and time consuming caring for it can be. That's why I prefer to keep my hair at bra strap length. I love my hair but I love myself more. Wishing you the best in your hair journey.

I know that this season of your life is very busy for you, and a long term protective style would be ideal I think. You're beautiful either way, but it's just a suggestion!

    Sister Charity,
I can understand your predicament and try to wash my hair 2 times a month for the exact same reasons. Although I did wash my hair every 7-10 days for several years, it’s not as practical now since I’m a Doctoral student and it’s waist length plus super thick. If she was still alive, my maternal grandma would say that 5-7 individuals worth of hair is on my head. Lol. 🤣🙃 I’m immensely grateful for what the Lord has given me since cutting it off and starting over 10 years ago (June 1, 2014). For at least 5 years, I’ve discovered that the best prewash Detangling is from hot oil treatments and conditioner (Amla Legend by Optimum or Hask Argan Oil, adding a bit of olive oil or cocoa butter oil to the conditioner for extra slip).😊🙃

I have some unpopular opinions. Before I wash my hair, I don't comb it wet, I use an oil and comb it through because hair is wekest wet and my strands are fine. I comb my hair root to tip (there's a technique to doing it that way). In doing those two things, my hair breaks less and it has thickened up.

I wash my hair once a month and I dont loose much hair. I observe that hair tangles easily if it is twisted. I do more cornrows (weaving as we call it) that way, the hair does not easily tangle. During take down, I use leave in conditioner and detangle during the take down process. The wash process is easier after that because the hair has been detangled prior.
I wish you the best and pray for wisdom to handle this new phase with all your responsibility and hair care.

It takes a long time but I detangle my daughters hair before washing. It saves so much time and effort. I also dry detangle (not exactly, I use a little bit of water and oil) bc she has fine strands and when it’s wet it easily breaks and coils back on itself making it harder to stretch. Also keep your hair in sections and twists (unloose each twists and wash as you go through each section to be thorough). Although I do believe I may be saying something you already know. But God bless on the next wash session.

Hi, Charity. Thanks for sharing with us💟 What I find helps when the hair is super tangled is to do a pre-shampoo treatment. Apply a generous amount of oils and conditioner (preferably with silicones like the discontinued Trader Joe's Nourish Spa, my old fave) and then put on a plastic cap. You can then do some housework or exercise for an hour so that your body heat will help to soften the hair. Using a heating cap or steamer for 20 minutes is also effective. When you get in the shower to start the shampoo process, rinse the oils/conditioner and gently finger detangle. Then use a cleansing shampoo (I prefer one containing sulfates to prepare the hair for the second phase of conditioning) and again gently detangle as you are rinsing. Shampoo again with a moisturizing sulfate-free shampoo and rinse well. Lastly, apply another conditioner and detangle. Doing this backwards process (oils/condition first, then shampoo x2, then condition again) helps to decrease the lost hair strands. I have found that going straight to a water rinse on matted or tangled hair makes for a disastrous, long wash day.

Hi Charity! Love your channel. I often use that Treesemee conditioner before shampooing. I part my hair in four sections because my hair is more on the fine to medium side, then I put that conditioner all over those sections and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Gets the job done with detangling my hair. You may also want to try the African Pride pre treatment. That also works wonders and really helps with detangling the hair before shampooing. And I can relate to shampooing more often. I wash my hair every two weeks. This works best for me. Although, I know you have a busier schedule and us Women put ourselves on the back burner. Its alright to take time for yourself. Make wash day a relaxing day just for you. Even if its only for a few hours. You got this!

    Hi sis,
Usually, I deep condition my hair before washing with a mix of avocado, banana, egg, various oils (like tea tree and argan), and honey. I then cover it. After about 2 hours or more, my hair becomes very easy to detangle, usually very soft, making detangling a walk in the park. It helps reduce hair loss too.
Well done, sis. The joy of the Lord is your strength.

I feel your pain. But honestly, this happens to my hair whether I wash it one week or 3 weeks. I believe it has a lot to do with the chemicals in the products, shampoos and conditioners reacting to hard water. Also, for me, products with too much protein interacting with the chemicals in the hard water. Also discovered oils with protein products are my worst enemy. MY hair just webs/mats up. I am still trying to figure it out. I have found that Isoplus neutralizing shampoo plus conditioner works well for stripping product build up, and hard water deposits. You have to know which products work well together or NOT. Hope that helps you someone else going through this mentally draining process.

Please be respectful. We don’t know what she went through in her life that cause her to not wash her hair within the month. I’m assuming you’re a Christian yourself by the scripture you shared. Learn to extend grace to others and not judge. She’s a mother of 2 children. Hope you take this message kindly. 🙂

No disrespect intended. Love and grace will always come with the Holy Spirit of Truth. A person who will not tell you the truth does not know love. One of my daughters' names is Charity, and I have the same love for her as I do for all my sisters. I hope that we will all come to the knowledge of the truth. HIS yoķe is easy, and his burden is light. Pls remember, the truth hurts, even if the intentions are good. Peace and love to all. 🙏
