Gourd Pyrography & Tekchic Woodburner Review

- I figured out it is possible to get voltages from 0-20 if I set the fine adjust low enough (even though the manual says not to do this), but you can only get these low numbers as you turn it down, and as you turn it up it just waits and jumps up to 20. I don't know if low voltages like those are useful anyways.

The first half of this video is the unboxing of a woodburning kit, the woodburning itself starts at around 8:00
Didn't even realise I spent 8 minutes watching you unbox a woodburner. Guess you're just really nice to listen to 👍
Perhaps it would be more satisfying if you were working on a leather jacket .
That's fine this guy's voice tho
with the voltage setting, under a certain voltage the wire will not heat up
Peter, that turned out absolutely beautiful!
“maybe there will be a manual that i won’t read”
this man has dangerous energy surrounding him
And then he finds the manual and _reads_ it. He's too powerful.
OneBiasedOpinion exactly. he doesn’t let ppl know his next move
As I read this I heard him say it during the vid as I was reading ur comment word by word tf

R how to wood burn a gourd
R eally great info about wood burning gourds ?
so you were sitting by abandoned traintracks in the dark sanding a gourd? *you're* the wild guy.
He needs to stay in more 😆
oml peter its been ages since i've watched you and i just reunited with your channel and i missed you so much ;0;
Peter Draws: Would you be surprised if I-
Me: No.
Maybe a good idea for a future video. Woodburning on a pair of wooden clogs.
Love the videos keep 'm coming.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
This is such a gourd video 😁

☺🔫
"The sun came up, and it was beautiful......almost GOURDeous"
Gourdjizz?
I've got this kit and I absolutely love it. I've spent some serious time with it and the fine tuning plus the quality of the tips really impress me. I agree that it feels a bit cheap, but it is by far the best kit I've ever used.
I would absolutely love to watch you draw with the power of the sun again
I did that before?
@@peter_draws it was wood burning but I like to think you use eldrich powers to burn art into things
Peter: I just unplugged something and I didn't see anything turn off... Nothing important anyways.
Peter: looks around and stares out window and says, welp the sun's off but... Eh.
Next On Peter Draws: Woodburning My House!!! (NOT CLICKBAIT)
(not gone sexual)
"Wood Burning my Door" should be first🔥
Pyrography is so cool
Here's my take: This knob represents the temperature you want it to reach, which doesn't directly control the voltage. So I'm guessing when you go a lower temperature, based on maybe a built-in thermostat, it literally shuts the voltage going out so the tip cools down to the temperature you set it at.
This is exactly how a fridge or an oven works: after heating up, if you turn it down it literally shuts down for a while. Just a guess.
I recently got into wood burning and accidentally reunited with your channel I used to watch you all the time I miss your vids!! Your vibes the best!
Great video! Just a quick comment that this gourd still had it's skin on. Normally one would soak the gourd in water until the skin is soft enough to scrape away with a tool or heavy scrubber. Underneath the skin is a beautiful wood-like surface, that would have burned much more evenly.
I would give anything to have stumbled across you at 6am sanding your gourd Haha. Awesome video. As usual. :)

The display screen indicates power consumption, so if the tips reach working temperature it will stay zero volts. The lever indicates how hot you want the tips to be, therefore the hotter the higher the voltage. Even so, when reaching its requested temperature the voltage will be zero.
Maybe the PSU is configured so you can't use low volts, you need a certain mount of current running thru the tip to warm it up enough to burn wewd
Wewd?! Do you watch bobbyduke?
@@SourPeachHeart ofc i do my friend
alison99554 Love Bobby Duke. Hilarious guy. He’s the Peter Draws of carving artistry.
Bobby Duke fan here, I see
dead brain Wewd!
I LOVE your "pen snob" tee!!!
Wonderful outcome on this gourd! Those are hard to do because of their inconsistency of surface material.
"Huh, I didn't notice anything up here turn off... Nothing important anyway"
Im certain everyones been there at one point or another. Some of us more often than others.
Well, I never considered my ears receiving such a sentence as "I sanded my gourd" when I woke up this morning. But I'm sure pleased at what transpired as a result. Thanks Peter.
“This gourd was unpredictable” ... that hit me😔
Oh aren't they all!
“Maybe there will be a manual I won’t read” *burns house down*
Peter: "Maybe there will be a manual I won't read"
My daughter: "Things come with manuals?" (True reflection of how often manuals are opened in this house!)
You are phenomenal with your hand free drawing. That was pretty cool. Much success with your channel!
You could literally do whatever as long as you narrate it, and I’ll watch. Your voice is my faveeeeeeeeeee 💕 super relaxing ✨
"I saw the sun rise, and it was beautiful." *itches himself with the gourd stem*
You are one of my favorite people ❤️ I aspire to be as great at line style as you. You have put a lot of work into what you love and it shows. Thank you so much for being yourself and for being so informative. I just love the vibe you give off and I hope to be friends one day 🌞
OKAY yes to the Primer reference, so much detail so fast. But so good
Damn, no mercy with the review. VERY HONEST review. LOL I like it!
That intro was absolutely amazing and I think my favorite out of all intros
A Gourd is one of the weirdest vegetables I've ever seen! This video is so cool though, thank you
I checked into this livestream at about 1:30 AM and was happy to see you casually talking to chat and listening to some music. Nice job peter.
“It’s a very complicated thing to get into like the way my pinky toenails grow” 🤣😂😭
1. Your voice is so soothing. I love listening to you talk. 2. This is so cool
That intro. I mean no words can even...👌10/10
I got a Razertip a while back because of you. I love it. Their catalog of tips really blows all the others out of the water. They have anything you could possibly need. No one else that I could find had the tiny ball tip I use most. It’s about 1mm and is great for fine lines over challenging grains. I find ball tips are usually the easiest for anything with an inconsistent surface, or anything with a stronger grain than bass wood. Which is pretty much all wood 😂
it’s been quite a few months since I’ve watched your videos and my god how I’ve missed them
That's one heck of a gourd job there bud! Very beautiful as always. Thanks Pete.
I like how you wrangled your new burner out of its box by its cord.
I haven’t ever considered getting a tattoo, but if I was going to I would like you to do it. Your style is amazing
Came for the pyrography; stayed for the humor. Fun stuff!
It's been a long time since I did any pyrography. It's a lot of fun using Posca paint pens along with it.
Peter, thanks for doing this video. You've inspired me for sure. Your very artistic. I love your humor. Love the gourd....
Omgoodness...I accidentally left the speed for video on 2x (full speed ahead) from speed coloring... Peter so funny to watch you full speed ahead while talking about your gourd. I know, I'm weird, but thought I'd share a good laugh! It was really funny watching with your poshmark intro vid.
Add water to the yellow sponges, they expand and help clean the tips
looks really gourd to me ! keep making gourd art !! love it !
I can so relate with the “well just unplugged something and nothing up here turned off. Nothing important anyway” haha happens every time.
This in portuguese is called: cabaça.
Cabaça is used to transporta water by tradition.
It is a common plant in the north and northeast of Brasil.
one of the few honest reviews, thanks Peter
and the gourd looks great!
you should try wood burning with a large magnifying glass :) (I once had a friend who did that) (you may need eye protection)
also maybe your opinion of the kit was swayed by the inconsistent gourd experience... would love to hear further feedback if you decide to try the kit with a more consistent surface :)
the man has watched primer; how much more perfect can one person be
You absolutely *squashed* that gourd drawing.
Cool! Not all gourds burn the same, I try to find the smoothest and unblimished I can. You could cut the top off and have a lovely bowl, alcohol ink looks great over pyro on gourds too, transparent.
Man you really know your stuff. Ive been watching for a few days now, and I find a lot of the stuff you talk about to be very interesting. I like watching you draw as well. Keep up the great work man. Clicking that Sub button right now my friend. You made me want to start drawing again.
Is Primer the time travel one? That movie was bananas. Nice deep cut Peter. Deep cut...
I love your humor! It's hilarious! Maybe there will a manual that I won't read. Then when you scratched your head with the gourd!
God this man looks crazy yet he is so relaxing to watch
Like
?????
oh my god this is so satisfying to watch
If I feel stressed I will come here. Thanks Peter.
Hey Peter! Love the pyrography and review!
Excellent video. Very informative, creative & entertaining!
it makes me anxious watching you getting it close to your hands
I have the Razer tip SS-D10 and I really enjoy it a lot!
Gourd work Peter 😊
You’re beautiful Peter. You’re like the Robin Williams of art for me. I loved that man and cherished the memories and moments he gave me, same I will do with you. I appreciate your content, keep up the good work! Also we have the same name so that’s cool.
I just discovered your channel! And I’m very glad I did 😄
Peter: maybe there'll be a manual i won't read
I've never related more in my life
I think the voltage thing is kinda normal i can't say for sure about yours because mine is much older but I've noticed the voltage can be directly correlated to the size of the tip your using. A thinner tip requires less voltage to make the current heat up the tip. So some of those thicker tips with more metal require more volts because basically it's intentionally short circuiting to make the heat. I believe the reason why the voltage knob takes a while for the current to spike is due to it needing to overcome the size of the tip, see if it does the same thing with a thin tip. If it does the same thing i have no clue why it's doing that. But if it requires less turning of the knob to go up in volts with a small tip then that's what's going on.
I would love to see one of Peter's Drawrings as a tattoo.
16:22 you should seal it, put some wood varnish on it, that would look amazing, or even colour bits with some ink, something translucent but colourful before sealing it.
Gourd damn, nice work Peter
This video gives me ASMR vibes... I like 👍
You should have put water on those bits of foam which actually were sponges.
Peter draws the best asmrtist in the game
Bahaha. Your personality is quite refreshing, sir.
kudos to you for such an honest review
I know it’s past Halloween but you should use this pen and do art on a pumpkin
Fire and the mind of peter is a suspicious combination
The adjustment range is weird because it seems to have an audio taper potentiometer... if you replaced it with a linear taper pot you should be able to adjust it more finely. Just have to know the resistance value
Nice impression of a turntable...oh ya great drawing.
Cool stuff... I definitely learned something today! :)
Beautiful work sir!
Still dont get notifs from u idk what youtube is doing wrong... still here w the early gang tho 👊
I dunno, good to see you tho
From the stands (the sponges in the trays), I think what you have there is a repurposed soldering station.... and not a very good one at that.
Dude, you are out of your gourd!
Love your art!
the volts not turning up until past like the first third of the knob might be a safety thing. if you want it off and its turned all the way down you wouldnt want something to nudge it and turn it on
For people living in England, Hobbycraft currently are selling a wood burning kit for 10 quid. I've just got it so I'll check it out and reply to this later if I remember this exists.
I feel you dude about the pinky toenail. Mine is basically just a mass of hard skin. It's not like a nail at all q.q
Lovely gourd.
This is an awesome medium for you.
If u say gourd in Scottish accent like my art teacher it's so funny idk why 😂
Cuando alguien se merece un Like, se le dá...
¡¡Un Like, para un artista!!
You are a treasure Peter.
I like this guy... Good review man...
I had my Mom's wood burning kit/set from the 60's or 70's, she was born in 56. Anyways, I gave myself one heck of a burn on my thumb. There's still a vague triangle spot from the burn, I was I dunno 12 or 13, I'm 34 now. lol I don't know if I've ever burnt myself worse than that. My son is now 14, and I've pondered getting him one. He's pretty careful, would probably be ok. lol then I have flashbacks of my thumb burning for a day or two straight. Probably shoulda gone to the emergency room for that.....
on that note, would love recommendations for thrifter options? or would you just recommend sticking with the 2 you recommended in the links.
Nice "Primer " call-back!
What about smoke and smell?
