When I was stationed ln fallinbostell in the 60s with the Royal Scots greys the Tank Transporters were crewed by a unit called the MSO ALL displayed persons From Eastern Europe and great at there job
What a great find bringing back many happy memories. I was Ops Officer of 1 STAFFORDS based at St Barbara Barracks, Fallingbostel at the time of this film. We lived in SOQ1 on Queen's Avenue.
I was about 4 the time this happened, and my dad was in the North Staffs. I remember going to the 16 tanks Nursery, and then Shackleton Primary school. The guys there used to have open days where the kids could sit in all the tanks and there was a huge parade. Awesome times
Hi Your Dad who was C troop Staff sergeant filmed this video with his newly acquired cam corder for me and my mate who were leaving. You can hear him say no thanks at 5:10 on this video. Think he had a Honda Prelude at the time.

I thank you soooo sooooo much for this upload......I´m crying right now.... sooo many small details that changed over the last 30 years..... at 12:32 you see my best friend Michael on his bicycle which I haven´t seen since 2004 but I know that he´s become a semi pro billard player of 2.Pool Bundesliga........and many so much thanks for the other parts of your duco...God bless you Mr. Mellon

It was great seeing this vid brought back so many memories of my time in Fally as a kid , (76-80 and 84-87), my ole fella was Geordie Robinson in B troop.
Me, ex-3RTR Ratbag kid, same time. My Old man was SSM of (IIRC) HQ Sqn and I was such a shit I got packed off to boarding skul where I learned to be a bigger shit. Then joined the NZ army RNZAC myself.
Great footage of Fally and 16 Tk TPTR Sqn and quite a few faces and places I recognise. I was the M.C. SSgt Charlie Skivington. Thanks for posting this I found it by chance.
one or two faces i recoconised in this clip, 1 being Jeff Selms, and at 6mins 21sec, i know the face but not the name....both were drivers when i was there 1974 - 1978

I'm a former Lance Corporal and I don't have my assigned reader (full screw) or reader and writer (SaRJunnT) with me. I've been left unattended with nobody to shout at and no coal scuttles to boot into orbit since 1994 lol. I think I've got that PTSD (Post Transport Swearing Disorder)
@@restojon1 I was hoping to pull rank on you but as a former Lance Jack myself, I cant. The closest I really came to RTC was 45 Squadron, based at SEE Arborfield, who consisted mainly of some pretty young civilian Ladies who drove staff cars! Happy Days!
I love the British Centurion. They were superior in armor and mountain climbing ability to the U.S. M46, M47,M48 and even the M60's. This was proven in Korea by Centurion tanks climbing mountains That U.S. tanks could not match and by Israeli mother's pushing their tank crew sons to get into Centurion brigades rather than Patton brigades due to greater survivability in wars with the Arabs in 1967.
The best sight of Fallingbostel doesn't exist. It was bleak and miserable location. Fortunately l volunteered for a Parachute Course to get away from there.
Hi Daniel I knew a mick Suffield when I was in the RCT in 1 Arms Fld Amb went to Denmark with him always remember his missing teeth if its the same person
Drag was used from the antar days as they only had a low top speed of just over 30mph as it took so long to get any where it dragged on to drive any where so it was shortened to drag it was not used by any other unit or regiment in the British Army

The MSO or Mojo"s were mostly Polish. They had a working troop at 16 sqn until 1987.

What's the RCT corp music , Paint Your Wagon ? Again.
Thank you for that.

Such a shame the Army is being cut to shreds and that we're pulling from Germany. Loved being based there as a child.
Very apt that the REME get the Sherpa van - the most unreliable piece of kit in the convoy and that's saying something with all those Chieftains!

The Sherpa looks tiny next to the Scammells.

Those old Chieftains have been cut up and melted down by now. Probably now in the form of some old old metal food cans rusting in a landfill in Asia.
Theres a couple of Cent AVRE's there also
Quite a few ended up as hard targets at Lulworth. Good memories blowing holes in them with HESH and APFSDS rounds.

Yes that is him and his wife to the time was name Birgit.

So, please tell me, what is a drag in army terms?
A" Drag" is what British Tank Transporter units (Whats left of them) use to describe going on a detail. ( dragging a trailer behind you)
Drag was used from the antar days as they only had a low top speed of just over 30mph as it took so long to get any where it dragged on to drive any where so it was shortened to drag it was not used by any other unit or regiment in the British Army
