How to clean toilet tank? My parents have an older home and have tried just about everything to get the toilet tank in this bathroom clean! Sand paper. Chemicals. But the rust and stains remained. So I tried something that I've used many times before on extremely dirty things to see if it would work. Fingers crossed, no scrubbing! And depending on the results, I'll try vinegar next.

depending on the type of valve the toilet has, you can usually force the water level to much higher in the tank, then just put plenty of Iron-out in the tank and leave it for a few hours and the stains will be gone. Great for the bath-tub, Fill it as high as you can with warm water before you go to bed while sifting plenty of Iron-out into the full tab. The scent of the chemical reaction will be pretty potent for the first 5-10 minutes, so close the door and maybe turn the exhaust fan on.

Iron Out does not work with High Iron Levels. I am replacing the 17 year old water softener, But trying to get iron stains out - Lets just say well and septic iron is not a minor thing. I have used a lot iron removers and nothing has worked. Full disclosure, the toilet in the video just appears to be neglected dirt (no offense) vs Iron stained and that is what I am in search for. I wish I could upload a photo so I can show you guys however, not sure how to do that. Bottom-line, well and septic iron staining, Iron Out does not remove it.

Rather than cleaning that fill valve, it's actually a better idea just to go to Home Depot and buy a new one. About $10 I believe. Also you could also consider a new toilet, they have a lot of upgraded features including better flush performance and lower water consumption, along with a nice taller height

Relatively new toilet …does only intermittent full flushes!
I’m guessing the problem is a combo of rust and sediment…tried vinegar and Out liquid…no change until I started using Out powder…as per instructions:1/2 cup into bowl…leaving it there for hours.Routine done every 24 hours for X3 days!Currently,the toilet now flushes every time!
Out apparently works for rust and sediment unclogging issues!
