    NEWS! the Sparrows *Medusa* aka Boomslang is back in stock as of 24-Jan-18 :-) www.sparrowslockpicks.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MED
    Well, it’s finally happened! The postal services have finally delivered my first Medusa Hybrid Pick. I am so humbled that my design is being made by Sparrows and that you can now have a go with one yourself if you like :-) thank you all for your support and patience - Lock Noob

    Knowing the back story/ history of products definitely influences my decision to purchase products. I saw a couple of your videos about the sandman and ordered one. I have to be honest that I really didn’t know what to expect out of the performance of the sandman. But after receiving it I was able to pick locks in a fraction of the time it takes with standard picks. I have 3 more on the way for spares because this is my new favorite and goto pick for most locks I encounter. My daughter was even able to start picking Kwickset and Schlage locks repeatably for the first time ever within only about five to ten minutes of practice with the sandman. The ability to rake a false set then just flip the pick to spp an open with a single pick is what makes this pick so awesome and easy to use. Its the closest thing to magic key Ive ever used.

    As always quality products! It should come as no surprise you Sir Lock Noob designed it. I purchased all the special picks and of course with no literature etc. am looking around for reviews and tutorials. I got them a day ago. All the picks are much thinner than my standard set. That is taking some getting used to because I feel I may break them. Keep on slaying locks 🔐 💀😆

    Mine came in the mail last week. I _really_ like it! It's a great design and I'm surprised it wasn't already a thing.
    I'm currently making my own mini/finger picks set for EDC that're all 3 1/4" in length. I made a mini Medusa to add to the set.
    I traced it on some paper, cut it out, then glued it to a 0.020 feeler gauge and cut it out with the dremel, shined it up real bright, then Plasti-Dipped the handle. I made it a tad less tall of a profile though to fit smaller keyways better. The handles are a bit wavy like the Sparrows Creeper set too. Haven't made picks in _years_ so I'm rather proud of them so far. The *hardest* pick to make has been the City Rake.

    I just got mine today, as a matter of fact! With a few quick tests, I'm finding it works really well for SPPing.

    I have had the Medusa for a few days and I think it is a good dual purpose hybrid pick for a quick rake into a false set and SPP the rest of the pins. I really like that it is made in 0.020" because it will fit into some of the smaller keyways. Great job on this pick Lock Noob! I'm really impressed with it! Keep up the great work my friend!

    A very well merited recognition, Congratulations, Ash. A beautiful and genuinely multi-purpose pick. You've had a great year with three successful designs getting into the wild. All the best for the upcoming new year... I'm sure you've got plenty more ideas stashed away in your head. I'd love to see you tackle a new tensioner design! 👍👏

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  6 років тому +2

      Thanks my friend... new tension design huh? I’ll get on it ;-)

    • @EnzoGuardino
      @EnzoGuardino 6 років тому

      Lock Noob Yep, it's the only thing missing from your arsenal (not the Gunners). I'd love to see an ultimate tensioner that works as both top and bottom of keyway, maybe springy, perhaps adjustable. Pie in the sky, maybe; yet, I'm convinced a flexible solution must be viable. :) I think DarkWood Picks was going in the right direction with his custom tensioner (video 102), but it could go one step better. I'm not sure what is missing, but it's an excellent basis. :)

    Well done mate!
    I'm waiting for mine in the mail now.. hopefully only 2 weeks left to go lol.
    I love how sparrows are active in the lock sport community.
    I just wish the postage times were a bit more consistent..
    Once I had my order the week after the it was placed.
    But mostly it's around a month to Australia.
    But they are definitely my favourite place to shop.
    Especially with the new security pins. Thank you for what you've done for this sport lock noob.

    I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks now. It’s truly great and very useful! Easy raking and works well and really gets in those smaller locks. For me personally it is a little short and is rather sharp in my hand the way I normally hold a pick, but not unreasonable. The picture is too nice to cover with a handle though. Well done to a great concept.

  • @AlbertLebel
    @AlbertLebel 6 років тому +2

    Absolutely brilliant. Like you explained here, I bet this is perfect for some keyways. As I am just starting, I have been learning this. I tend to always pick up the same pick and thats not good. But its a learning curve. Congrats on a job well done. And Sparrows is awesome too.

    I bought one of those, along with the sparrows classic set with competition case, and some other basic stuff as my first ever purchase of some professional kit (£108 total including shipping). I have to say, it's the smartest thing I've done in a while. The feel of sparrows picks is superb and shows just how inferior my cheap Chinese set is, even after I've sanded them down. So.... I'm just needing a couple of Peterson picks now in my next purchase.
    ...anyway, I really like the 20 thou thickness and silky smooth finish on the picking end of the medusa. I'm not sure if they're now doing them in two different sizes, because the one I've got looks twice the size of the one you show here, in that it's too tall to fit in padlocks that have low-set pins, mainly because one of the rake-edge waves is quite tall. I'm tempted to buy another one and cut the waves deeper in to the pick, just to see if it works. The hook side is very good for using bosnianbills 'speedbump' technique. It could just be me just being very novice, but now I've seen how you use the rake side from an angle, I might have better luck.

    I just got into Locksport last week, Tonight I ordered the Medusa, Octo rake and the warlock as well as some cutaway locks based on your recommendations, I also got the reload kit (as you say “So much value” I also had to buy the Sherman Case, I did accidentally order the sandman instead of the Medusa however I sent them an email Immediately afterwards asking for the Medusa instead, I really hope they received my mail because the Medusa looks amazing. Thanks Lock Noob for making so many great beginner videos, I am learning at an accelerated pace thanks to you.

      A pleasure! The octopus rake is another one I like a lot too. It opens SO MANY so-called "high security" padlocks painlessly :) The sandman is really great too! I have ordered all of the sparrows line, and a few of each of the art-bearing ones. I figure I'll manage to break them or wear them out someday! When you can open a scary-looking lock in a few seconds, it turns people on to locksport! :) Thanks again!

I liked your pick name better but theirs fits probably better the product line and well, Medusa makes sense ;D. Love the laser engraving, they should mirror that on the other side too :). Hi, I have recently become interested as lock picking as a hobby/past time. I am 54 now but i have as a child always been able to open combination locks by feel and pick very cheap padlocks with very basic everyday implements. I have been watching youtube and wondering what starter set to go with. I decided to make a tension bar and by a single pick to learn with. I have just this minute placed a order for a Medusa pick i thought i would check any videos using the said tool. Wow, I can`t wait for the order to arrive :-)

    Just fabricated my own boomslang and sandman picks today. I actually am very happy with the boomslang, but my sandman feels like I'm close but I didn't quite nail the exact profile.

    As an hybrid, Medusa is a name of choice. But, why didn't they make it a bit thicker for the comfort of the fingers?

    Is there a reason you used a stronger wrench. I am working on a LockWood 110/30, with my Medusa I can get 3 pins, but no cigar and I am using a weaker wrench.

    I'll have to give him a go. 20 thou is a nice thickness, 25 is a bit much sometimes.

    Can someone PLEASE tell me the name (code - SC1, KW1, AM5, etc) of the keyway of that Master padlock? Most of my padlocks seem to have the same keyway, and try as I might, I cannot find it. It's driving me up the wall! Can anyone help?🙏🙏🙏

      A belated thanks for your reply, very much appreciated. Another question if I may: I've just bought 5 cheap double euro cylinder locks in Spain (EUR 18) and I want to practice repining them with key pins when I get home to the Uk tomorrow. Cannot seem to find them on the internet. I also need them for some uk mortice cylinder lock I've collected over the years before I discovered this hobby. Do you know where I can get them? I don't need hundreds of them. Otherwise, can I make them from brass rod or adapt the existing pins if too long? Sorry, that's two question.
      With best regards and thanks for you vidios.

    Hello Sir, Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, Congratulations on the success. I have tried to acquire one but was unsuccessful due to payment issues with the sparrow's website (They only accept payment from a small number of countries). Could you please advise if there is any other seller where I can buy one. Thank you so much.

  • @CHOPERUS23
    @CHOPERUS23 6 років тому +1

    Congratulations but I think there's a flaw straight away. The pick seems far too tall in the shaft to deal with Euro style Keyways. I struggle even using my praxis kit to pick the Abus E90 which has standard Euro warding in my opinion. I managed to modify my picks by sanding them not width ways but height wise, taking half a mm from the top and bottom. This Medusa wouldn't be very good at all in that form for European Locks.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  6 років тому +7

      CHOPERUS23 I disagree to an extent. As I say in the vide, there is no magic key and this isn’t designed for every keyway... no pick is or could be. So no, there is no flaw at all here, just that naturally it won’t work in all keyways though it does in a LOT. As for euro locks, it depends which one (and there are hundreds). I certainly have opened a number of euro cylinders with this pick, but it won’t work in all of them. Sparrows do a lot of pick profiles for that exact reason :-)

      I think Tipene sees it as an inspiration and evolution. He made the original Medusa based on a design I drew, so it’s all good
