I've listened to this every Dec. 1st since 1970... it takes me back to when I first heard it driving from Aspen back to Chicago... a magical, dreamy song... love it.

In the days before Autotune, Art Garfunkel said he used to warm up for shows by singing along with James Taylor records because his pitch and sustain is so smooth and precisely on the note. What a unique and special voice...

This concert took place on my 15th birthday. My beloved youngest brother Bruce just passed away on March 11th, 2023. Same date as my former husband, March 11th, 2018. It was three days before Bruce's birthday (March 14th). I posted this song in loving memory for him. Thank you James Taylor and God bless you! 🙏😇💙

Man this is such gold, the way you play the guitar with the bass root notes is just astonishing to me. I've been playing guitar for 24 years, finger picking is one of the things I've always tried so hard at but can never seem to get down as well as you can lol. You are by far the best singer songwriter in history in my opinion, i think all other guitar players would agree. Your music will never grow old my friend❤

The Grateful dead had workingmans dead..and American Beauty..and Cat Steven's had an album out too.. but I love this classic by James Taylor.

I bought the Sweet Baby James album way back in 1970...on the strength of the single 'Fire and Rain'. Straightaway this title track totally blew me away back then and continues to do so, ever since, 54 years later. There's just something utterly captivating and very moving about it. For me it's in the same league as Cat Stevens' 'The Wind' that came out at a similar time in history. ....and Paul Simon's 'Leaves that are green'.

I remember in a concert at Lincoln Center, NYC, I believe 1972 or 1973, James Taylor performed "Making Whoopee" to celebrate his marriage to Carly Simon. I and a lady friend really enjoyed his rendition. I wish you/he would place it on UA-cam. It would sure gladden this old heart with memories or better times behind.

My son was born in 1983 & this was his "baby song", the lullaby I chose to calm him & sing him to sleep. It worked a charm. I'd loved it since first hearing, still a child myself (ok, a big one), but the meaning shifted & deepened. Now I can't hear it without tearing up. So many other great ones, too. I have had the absolute honor to see James Taylor live 3 times. The first was when I was away at college, my mom got me and my roommate tickets even though money was tight that year. I cried the entire show. The second show was Mother's day. I went to the show with my mom and dad and cried the whole show. A few years ago we went to Vegas for my birthday specifically to see Jamea Taylor. My aunts from Hawaii came. My parents came. My husband knew I'd cry the entire show. Sometimes he'll wake up in the middle of the night because I'm not in bed. He always finds me in the living room dancing in the dark by myself to this song. We don't have children. But if we do, I'm naming them James just so I can sing them this masterpiece every night. The highlight of my entire life is getting to shake this legend's hand and get pictures next to him. I'll never forget the look on my mom's face when we found each other after the concert and I pulled out my autographed tote bag. In the 37 years I've known her, I have never seen such a big smile on her face. She was so genuinely happy for me. My husband was happy, but he said that every other concert he ever takes me to will never top that night. And he's right. Elton john, celine dion, cher, andrea bocelli. All legends. All amazing shows. But James Taylor is king in our household. I hope to see him live many more times before he retires. If he ever announces a farewell tour, I will gladly sell everything I own to follow him on tour

He is so underrated. He is a musical genius and has been since he was young. His own style of picking, it's brilliant. Even today he's still singing and playing and sounds as good if not better than this. People should really look at him Plat and listen. They'll never be another who can play like this and create such beautiful songs.

1970 was my senior year in high school. My family lived on Andrew’s Air Force Base just outside of Washington DC. What an exciting time that was. In 1971. I was a student at St. George’s community college and musicians toured college campuses . I met Livingston Taylor and spent some time with him. Unfortunately, that was the 1970s and I don’t remember a lot of it… What can I say?

Upon hearing this song I was inspired to write a lullaby to my granddaughter, Rosie.
    "Goodnight Sweet Baby Rose”
sung to the tune of “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor
written by Rosie’s Grandma Cherie on September 11, 2015
    Good night our moonbeam lady,
Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose,
Your day is complete and now you must sleep,
    Goodnight our Sweet Baby Rose!
Here come the angels to guide you,
To Lullaby Land you now go,
In the morning you’ll wake, and again our hearts take,
But for now goodnight Baby Rose!
Through midnight you’ll dream of your loved ones,
Those who live for your smile,
But for now goodnight sweet Rosie,
Please go to sleep for awhile!
Away you will soar to the heavens,
On Soft breezes o’er clouds you will fly,
To visit the stars and the moon in your dreams,
Good night with this soft lullaby!
You are so dear in your sweet crib,
The sight brings tears to my eye,
I sing to you now a grandmother’s song,
While dreams steal you away where you lie.
    So goodnight our moonbeam lady,
Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose,
Close your sapphire blues and Sweet dreams to you,
    Goodnight to Rosalind Eve!
    Sweet dreams dear Baby Rose!
